Wait a few years to get a sub, they will be easier to get and less expensive aftermarket
As much as i love the old sub from your pic most vintage rolexs aren't worth the money
You want the reliability of a new (or a few years old used) modern rolex movement

Yeah, the 1xxx series was significantly less refined than the previous 5xx series calibre, but they're still fine. You're buying it for the retro looks and not for a future investment. Just try to find a good example because a shitty stretched bracelet can break and getting them repaired or replaced is a real pain in the cock.

not an F-91W but I got a gold A700W today and I love it. my first normal watch in probably a decade.

I used a Pebble Steel for a while which I actually liked a lot and then once Pebble got eaten I went without for a few years. I then decided to try a Fossil Android smartwatch which .. was OK. kind of a disappointment in the end. I had an Apple Watch for a while because the company I was at gifted it but when I had to give the company iPhone back I gave it away.

I kind of agree with this.
I like the 70's sci-fi look of the A1000 and so I don't mind it.

If Casio released a metal F-91W I would wait in line to be the first one to buy one.
I don't care how that sounds.
I would love one so much.
Thinking about t, they'd probably go A158 because of the "open" lugs.
And I'd still get one immediately.
There are companies that make steel cases for the AE1200, but none for the F-91W.

The Speedmaster was my first "grail". I liked watches from my teens, always had a few (not a collector). Wanted the Speedmaster from when I was 24 after my dad told me he had a pre moon in his 30's but got water damage. He has wore a 1960s gold Seamaster my whole life. I bought a 1861 for my 30th so I always liked the brand.

I had the last gen 300m (blue) and upgraded to the new one. It was due a service and well worn. The GS reminds me of vintage Seamasters like my dads and I'm wired to like that aesthetic I think. The Turtle was bought in Tokyo on a trip and I just got the 3861 to daily as I normally wear the 300m but I would rather have a Speedmaster on due to reasons above.

Sure. You buy something and for the first month or so it's your favorite watch and after that you realize you don't actually like it as much as you thought you did, or you fall in love with something else, or you find something out about it that irritates you.

My friends are all in a small number of fields. We're all approximately the same in terms of wealth. So none of us is "the rich one". (Not to mention that flexing on your friends is a good way to lose friends.)

Plus, you can't flex on someone if they don't care about what you're flexing with. Very few people care about watches. One of my friends likes doing triathlons. He bought a $20k bicycle for triathlons. No one else cares.
