German knife law is as follows: If you don't have a specific valid reason such as carrying for hunting, a folding knife is only allowed to be carried outside if the blade isn't locking and opened with one hand at the same time. Only one or the other. Buck 110 is a classic example for a two-handed folding knife, while the Spyderco UKPK opens with one hand but doesn't lock. Mutlitools are not exempt, thus you can't carry a one-handed Leatherman either.
Folding knives have no size restrictions, for fixed blades it's 12cm, however you're not allowed to carry knives that have "weapon properties". Extremely vague, and encompasses anything from double dagger edges to maybe a mere black coated blade (and thus anti reflective and super duper tactical), seemingly depending on if the cop and possibly judge likes you.

Out-the-front opening automatics (OTF), gravity knives, balisongs (except ones with a <4cm blade), punch daggers (exception for leatherworkers) and hidden blades (like sword canes) are also illegal to own.
There is one more niche-but-interesting exception, the rescue tool. If a knife has a very specific blade shape determined by the BKA that includes partial serrations and a blunt tip with belt cutting hook (pic related), it becomes a rescue tool. As such it is legally not a knife at all, can be freely owned and carried and is not subject to any knife legislation, even if its function and dimensions would constitute an illegal knife otherwise. This allows for things like this new release from Böker which is an OTF but fully legal. There's gravity knives too, the RT-I Rescue, basically just a Bundeswehr LL80 paratrooper knife with different blade. It's common with firefighters. Mikov and Hubertus make side-opening rescue knives.
