What does /wt/ think of the latest addition to my interesting shitter collection? It's a Mondaine Chrono-Quartz powered by the notoriously fucking terrible and failure prone ESA Y2-900.231 movement that was used in the Heuer Chronosplit, Breitling Navitimer, and a bunch of other shit from the 80's. There are more broken examples of this movement floating around than good ones, and it's supposedly not uncommon to find brand new old stock movements dead on arrival from LCD death. Some dude in Aus who services them has manufactured his own upgraded drop in replacement module due to them being absolute pieces of shit to repair.

The movement keeps time and the chronograph functions do seem to mostly work on mine, the main issue I have with it is that pusher A (the one on the right) seems to be failing to make contact with the movement which I think is down to a little contact-plate missing on that side or something. I'm going to take a look at it some day when I'm feeling brave and retarded enough to attempt it as I have 0 experience working on this movement whatsoever and I am terrified of fucking it up because parts are unobtainium at this point and when they do come up for sale they are ludicrously expensive.

Thanks for reading my tl;dr blogpost.

It's always hilarious to see people (trying to) shit on Rolex in these threads.
I mean, Rolex is dabbing on the whole watch industry to a point it's not even funny anymore. They came up with a shit ton of essential innovations, have the most iconic designs, the most accurate movements, produce over a millions watches a year and are one of the most recognizable brand on earth (on a rather irrelevant market, ie luxury mechanical watches). Rolex is also praised by the best watchmakers in the world (Philippe Dufour, Roger Smith...) and the most reknown collectors.
On top on that, the demand is so high that they sell for a higher price on the grey market, and stores that carry them can't even put them on display. Just read the comments on the Rolex Instagram page, you'll see hundreds of grown men boiling with rage because they couldn't get a Submariner from their AD.

Truth is, if you're shitting on Rolex, chances are you're just seething and coping. And even if you're not, well... what's even the point?

The chrono looks a bit off, the dial isn't as neat as with the other models. I'd rather buy picrel.

Peak fat, yeah.
These uber-divers are the most pointless and impractical watches ever, nobody is ever going to dive that deep and yet companies still go out of their way to one up each other.

You must understand that people aren't being rational here. There is a lot of pride involved with simping for your favorite brand, and GS as an outsider isn't exactly favorite with many people. It's all about flexing and coping here.

The problem is that, while JLC makes interesting movements, they don't actually make interesting watches, particularly if you're not interested in dress watches.

Got a new teju lizard strap for my 70's oyster perpetual date, really happy with it in all honesty. I've wanted a genuine lizard strap forever but I'm a cheapskate so I've been waiting for a cheap one to come up and it finally did for £13 in an eBay listing with some other strap, so it ended up being £6.50 in the end. What do you /wt/ bros think? I usually have it on a bracelet but figured this could be a nice change.

I know you're probably not stupid enough to wear your expensive purchase while you're still in Paris, but I'm going to say this anyway: Do not wear an expensive watch in Paris, you WILL get robbed.

I don't like putting a cheap strap on a nice watch (and it is a nice watch, I'll give you that). That strap looks plasticky. I'd put it back on the bracelet until you have the funds to buy a nice strap.

Old ass picture of my Tudor to bump the thread.
>>17322874
Whether you spend 50 or 300, lizard straps always look kinda cheap and nasty if they have a shiny finish, it kinda just comes with the territory. It's an aesthetic choice and not a matter of the strap being cheap or poorly made. I expected it to be complete dogshit, but it's actually pretty nice quality in all honesty lol.

I'm just happy to finally have found a genuine teju strap for so little money after literally years of keeping my eyes peeled for one.
>>17322875
Me neither usually, but I think the fact that my watch dial is also a shiny black really ties it together for some reason. It's definitely not everyones taste, though. Shiny straps are super tacky, but I think it's pretty period appropriate for the watch and I dig it.
