/boot/ - Boot General - ROLLED WELT Edition

What do I need to care for my boots?
>Old cotton t shirt (one for cleaning, another for applying conditioners)
>Horsehair brush ($10-15)
>Wooden shoe trees ($10-15)
>Light conditioner like Lexol/Bck4
>Heavy conditioner (if you live in terrible snow/rain areas) Sno seal/Obernauf LP

How do I deal with x stain?
>mud: allow it to dry then brush off
>salt: water and cloth as soon as possible
>saturated wet: allow the boot to dry for a full day, stuff with newspaper
>scuffs and scratches: buff vigorously with horsehair brush

>Should I buy turdsdays/soloshits/doc shitans?
no
>b-b-but muh ecelebs on youtube said they're good
no. you will waste your time and money and still have uncomfortable footwear at the end of the day. spend the extra $100 and get something real.

EG mink suede is probably the best looking suede on the planet

Still, their storm welt width is inexcusable. This is Tricker's levels of wideness.

I have a pair of AE Higgins mill boots and I can't get the scuffs out. Any ideas? Also any ideas why my shoes and boots all scuff like this. It's only my left shoe and it's always in the same spot.

Anyway the only way to really get scuffs out is to use shoe cream polish with color in it.

Oxfords in the Rain last

I thought they needed break in
Turns out they just needed returning

I still wear them (rarely) to formal events and such but the fit is not good. I wish Carmina would describe their lasts better instead of just "this one is stylish while the other one is modern". And the comparison tool isn't really accurate.
Anyway they are very well made, just a bad fit

For minor scuffs I can just apply that oiled leather stuff in the pic and massage the leather with my fingers and it draws out the oil from the leather and the marks dissappear. Nothing wrong with Blake but has to disagree with this right here
>Blake rapid is a superior construction to welting

>you can just keep slapping soles on endlessly

It's not that the blake stitch is the problem. The welt area (edge) will get beat up, dry and crack eventually during resole. Furthermore, you need to sand that part every time you resole.

The good thing about the welt is you can easily replace it. With blake rapid, replacing the midsole means eventually damaging the insole.

Does anyone have a good recommendation on a wide Oxford shoe or wide formal shoe? For reference: I am a 7 EEE. Hopefully something I can try and buy in London but I don’t mind if I have to ship it from elsewhere. Hoping to spend less than £200 but don’t mind going to £350 or slightly above.

TLB lasts all have width options if you go MTO.

I guess it's out of budget but I have wide feet and I sent an email to Toni at TLB and he asked for measurements and photos and then told me to place an MTO at maximum width (size 9.5 UK) and they are very comfortable, in fact at first I thought they might be too wide. But after breaking in I think they're perfect.

I think I paid 510€ for them and it took about 15 days to make (which is very quick for an MTO). Also like 50€ for the lasted shoe trees which is a steal and at least half of what other brands ask for non-lasted shoe trees.

Alternatively, Carmina sells black captoe oxfords in both the Rain and Forest lasts in EEE width by default on their website (like 400€ I think?).
Rain is narrow by default, no clue on the EEE version. I think Forest is safer in width but instep is low.

These boots ordered at Carmina (color 4 shell but they have no color 4 hatch grain for the shaft) cost about 1200€. The "model" in the photo is just bad grafics.
These boots ordered at EB cost about 1700€ give or take. Obviously EB can do a lot more options.

But Carmina has a tendency of occasionally sending out junk or pulling cordovan the wrong way across the toe.
Whereas EB are masters at making shell boots.
Not sure it's worth it. I'd probably go with Bonafe at this point.

What's the difference between the boots made for smoke jumpers and loggers and something like the MPs? The sole and that's it?
Everyone talks about "muh 'real' workboots" and the "real" workboots are always 30 dollar cemented boots from Walmart filled with foam. But because they have a steel toe they're somehow "real" boots compared to other boots
I worked for a manufacturing company making helicopters and the shop floor guys wore cheap running shoes and if they did wear boots they wore cowboy boots because it was Texas
I used to work in a mechanic shop for a bit and the boots everyone wore were whatever they could get at Walmart.
Most construction workers I see wear Timberlands or Red Wing moc toes. In fact I'd say when it comes to "work" boots Red Wing mocs are the most common I see
This whole "they were real work boots" thing is one of the most retarded things I see spammed in these threads. Even these "fashion" boots made with a GYW and stitched soles are way more boot than "real" workers wear so pretending that they're somehow inferior and acting high and mighty about it just makes you look dumb
So many firefighters wear these 700 dollar boots and so many construction workers wear 350 dollar Red Wings
Sounds like you're just mad you can't afford a pair so you try and create this idea that they're not "real" boots despite being actually a lot more

redditors are truly sick in the head
there is another post from today
dude bought 4 pairs of meermin mystery tannery "shell cordovan" shoes for $350 each
somehow the price being 2-3 times lower than any other shell boot out there didn't raise any red flags for him
even meermin themselves charge $500-600 for horween and shinki shell (second runs no doubt)
dude now complains that the finish on the leather is flaking off after not much use and this can't be removed by brushing, conditioning does nothing
to me this looks like boxcalf with a plastic finish on top to give it shine and rigidity to prevent creasing and imitate shell "rolls", now it fails and flakes off in the areas that get worked the most
in the post that is titled "how much shell is there really in meerins" he bitches about the leather failing immidiately in only two sentences and goes on 10 paragraphs about channeling his inner Trenton and Heath, Bedo, Rose anvil to take the shoes apart to make key chains out them and how the construction is actually super tough

Echoing this sentiment.

Real workers actually wear cheap ass cemented shoes that at least can protect their toe from getting crushed or slipped off the beams to death. And they are cheap enough anyway to just throw away and replace.

Your average goodyear welt, box calf upper, rubber sole is actually built better than the above.

White's core product is built for a very specific set of trades. If you don't live their life, the build is unnecessary, you are outright Larping.

The PNWtards are specs autists at this point, more interested in collecting items than actually being effay. The same trash as hypebeast.

>I used to work in a mechanic shop for a bit and the boots everyone wore were whatever they could get at Walmart.
>Most construction workers I see wear Timberlands or Red Wing moc toes. In fact I'd say when it comes to "work" boots Red Wing mocs are the most common I see
workers can no longer afford work boots but if you throw enough cheap foam and rubber at them they dont complain

I'm starting a new job with a large investment bank this month.

I've bought a couple of suits etc but have no formal shoes - apart from the cheap < £50 dress shoes you get at cheap stores.

I don't have much cash to spend on a very nice pair at the moment. I want a pair of monk strap Carminas that I'll probably buy within the year (when I have more money).

For the meantime, I need a cheap, comfortable, quality pair of oxford shoes to start my new job with.

My mind is currently set on a pair of Meermin black calf oxfords.

Does anyone have any other suggestions or insights on these shoes?
