>Finally, a fucking tattoo thread where the tattoos aren't cringe
Too many people like to emulate popular design/stylistic choices (mostly the latter) they see on others because they're lazy and uninspired

>find an art style you like
>find an artist who specializes in said style
>at best, have custom work made that is truly unique and work with the artist to the desired outcome
>at worst, take designs you like and have the artist modify them to fit aforementioned style
either option is infinitely better than the majority of people who just slap on something trendy from a flash sheet or instagram, and a good artist should always be able to accommodate either of the above. If they can't, run, don't walk, away from the shop. They aren't making $100-$250+/hr to sit there and ctrlc+ctrlv your IG feed onto your body, and most [good artists] hate doing that anyway.

while I'm at it, may as well list other red flags for artists
>"Can't do line work that fine" = I'm an untalented hack
similarly to that one,
>"fine lines like that will blur quickly" or "shading that way will blend together" = I don't know how to fill out the space properly, my linework is shit, and if I don't have an exact 1 to 1 stencil to trace I'm lost
>"that design isn't really good for tattooing" = I can't adapt work, or I'm too lazy to, and due to my being a retard or being flat out lazy I will not do something that's expected of me
probably more im forgetting off the top of my head

>> No.17231491

How do you guys find tattoo artists? I'm completely new to this and reading up on care but I've been thinking about it for a while and I'd like to get some ink. Problem is most of the artists I'm interested in are based in Europe and mostly do bookings there, and if they're ever in America, it's in NYC.

>> No.17231529

>>17231491
while i harped on finding designs through IG here >>17231438 it can be a useful spot to find artists and portfolios all in one place. If using IG to find an artist some tips for checking out their photos/portfolio would be
>look to see if they post healed pictures, not just those taken immediately after a session is finished
>talk with them a bit to see if they fit the criteria mentioned >>17231438
>don't do deposits ahead of time via IG if you are unfamiliar with the artist
keep in mind pretty much all artists will ask for a deposit ahead of time so you may not be able to avoid this, but try to see if you can go into the shop to put the deposit down if it's your first time seeing an artist so you don't get scammed, or verify legitimacy with someone you know
>approach the artist with your design idea(s) and see how accommodating they are, if they feel that they're capable, etc.
>ask what the hourly rate is
most people ask what a single tattoo will cost. Most artists will say they can't tell you because it's based on time, size, placement, etc. This is largely true, so just ask for their hourly rate. Some larger business-centric shops (generally avoid these imo, unless they house one exceptional artist you really like) dictate prices more strictly for their artists and you'll pay more for what's generally not as good as you'd find at a smaller, more specialized shop.

Oh and keep in mind one pretty much golden rule; if you don't feel comfortable with an artist for any reason, walk away. It should never be a hassle to reposition a stencil, modify a design, or accommodate reasonable requests. Ultimately it's going on your body for life, if the artist throws a fit about that or seems annoyed, they shouldn't have your business.

My go-to artist is actually diagnosed fucking autistic so ymmv but I've had sessions where she spends 1-2 hours (literally) just repositioning the stencil so things are aligned perfectly. Never charges more for it, but I always tip as an appreciation for the extra effort.

Oh, and on that note, don't get stuck going to just one artist. If you like something you see from someone else, try them out. I get ~70% of my work from one person due to stylistic choices and I know how that artist works, what they're capable of, their process, etc. but the rest are from "window shopping" other artists with unique art that I enjoy

Ive been thinking bout using this as a starting template for my chest or back, remove kanye and the 2 angels, remove the background...basically have the 3 U shaped greek pillars with the center one being repeated inside itself(if that is even possible to do tastefully).
Leave the center U clear/filled with light, use the left or right ones for symbols/meanings and smaller drawings.
Also the lightwork in the shot is glorious and Id like to imitate that... whats the best way to sketch a piece for a tatoo artist? I onky know how to draw pen/paper is tgat good enough or should I use photoshop?

Yeah he kinda fucked up the straight lines. He did a lot better on everything else that wasn't straight

You could go full blown "hate symbols" to piss off a vast majority.
You could get naked women. Most guys or strangers will go "ayyyyy" if you show it to them. Although you'll piss off your granny and that one female cousin who hasn't had a boyfriend in 10 years because "she's pursing her career"
>and she may/may not have been sexually assaulted because she decided to go out with a black guy from the hood

And any tattoo in general will pass off old people in the street
>but they'll be passed off anyway because you're A lot younger and full of life then them. And they know they'll be died in less than 10 years
