17225636 No.17225636 [Reply] [Original]

I've been thinking about buying some boots for a while now, I usually wear stuff like Converse and Vans and I want to try out new stuff.
From what I know Martens are like the most well known brand for like, getting these type of boots right?

Anything being "worth it" depends on your income/what you're willing to spend
I'm a vans guy too, bought 1461 monos for more smart casual/formal fits and I really like them

>> No.17225660

>>17225636
No, if you want something similar but better quality get solovairs instead( and even the quality of those isn't great for the price but there better than asian made dm's)

>> No.17225661

>>17225642
I'm willing to spend what they're worth so money is not really a problem, still I don't like to spend too much because I'm a cheapskate.
Also thinking about getting them for like casual/formal outfits so I think I'm in your same situation.

How did you size them? One size down from your fans or tts?

If you like Van's you'll probably like Doc Martens. I have a pair and my ex used to have one as well they've lasted a couple years with minimal damage.

I use mine for nights out where I want something that looks better than my Van's but isn't a big hiking boot.

Just know that breaking them in sucks.

>> No.17226246

How do you get them to stop giving blisters?

Do docs ever become more comfortable? I had a pair of 1461 monos for several years and they were still the most uncomfortable shoes I’ve ever owned

Or maybe I bought fakes because I did get them off Amazon

At least this. But they are also covered with a much thinner pu layer. You can remove it with a solvent though.

As a boot, they're pretty garbage. No shank, bad foot cushioning, atrocious leather coated in a thick leather of plastic. After their recent (and multiple) price jumps, you're better off paying a little bit more and getting some Thursday Presidents in black, which are made with much better materials.

But of course, if you *want* to look like you're in docs, for music scene reasons or whatever, there is no replacement.

Meh, who cares, the seventies ones i had lasted years compared to the chink shit ones i had beforehand and were made with better materials. If you expect a pair of boots to last 10 years of constant use without ever replacing the soles then you probably don't wear them very often.

Regular docs for MSRP? No, I'd imagine not.
I got a pair of MiE 1461 for $80 in an outlet and they were absolutely worth it, but there is luck involved in that.
Anyway, I'd recommend some boots, I've been having a lot of fun with fashion lately thanks to the Docs, as like you, I just mostly wore Vans beforehand.

From what I heard, their boots are made in china and has shit quality now.
The guys who made them back when they were made in England started up a new brand which is basically the same thing as before sans the yellow stitching. Might be better off that way honestly since Docs has been associated with neo-nazis/skinheads in the past.

Boot autists will tell you they're shit, and they're right. If you're super into boots, Docs are absolute shit. If you have sex though they're excellent value for money. Solovairs are the same except they're more expensive for less "flex" with similar quality. But hey, at least they're Made In England right?

Solovair's are like £30 quid more for £5 better quality. If you buy Solovair's for quality you're genuinely retarded. The only reason to buy them over Docs is because they're made in England.
