I work for a Carlisle certified commerical roofing contractor, and I specialize in insurance claims for wind and hail damage. I don't do spec bids at all. I can definitely recommend getting into consulting. Most of the reason I did so is because, frankly, I don't want to work that hard. Once you've made a certain amount of money, working is stupid unless you love it.

I started my career out as an analyst, putting together huge stacks of data that no one read and no one made decisions based on. Thousands of hours of work. When I realized that my boss was not paying attention to me, I nuked his career with HIS boss and took his job.
But running my own shop has kind of mellowed me out. I'm not in the rat race anymore.
