Why you should always buy a Rolex, from an anon in a previous thread.

The only brand that actually matters when talking about luxury sports watches.
>by far the most popular brand name and logo
>iconic designs (Datejust, Explorer, Submariner, GMT Master, Daytona, etc)
>rich history (first water proof case, first self winding movement, first rotating bezel, first GMT complication, etc)
>no outsourcing, everything is made in-house including their steel and gold
>affordable if you manage to get one at retail
>tasteful marketing (no pozzed shit, no cringe ambassadors)
>maintain their value over the years (actually gain value)
>best mass produced movements and quality control (they make over a million movements a year that are regulated to be accurate at -2/+2s per day - no other watchmaker can do this)
Rolex is dominating the whole swiss watch industry so hard it's not even funny anymore. I unironically wish other watch brands were half as good as Rolex so watches would become somewhat interesting.
We've came to the point that once you've managed to get a Rolex, you're pretty much done with watches. Haute horlogerie is interesting but it's mostly boomers and nerds circle jerking on pictures of hand finished movements.

The ultimate redpill about watches is this
>find 10k
>buy literally any Rolex made after the 2000's
>wear it and forget about watches forever
If you regret buying it (which you won't), you'll be able to sell it for the same price you've bought it.

and DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES engage with watch people. Just stay away from them.
This "community" is filled with passive aggressive cunts who will try to convince you to buy meme brands like Blancpain, Girard Perregaux or Glashutte Original. They'll do everything they can to drag you down to their pathetic level.

None of these brands are cool. They're literally Steinhart/Pagani Design for middle managers.
>b-b-but Glashutte Original came up with the Lange 1 design first
>b-b-but Blancpain made the first diver
The only people who care about this are autists on 4chan and boomers on Watchuseek. Don't associate with these people.

Last day of holiday today. Gonna keep these two as long as they last. Both joined me on nearly every continent over the last 6 years. Longines my ife bought me still holds +3spd and is my companion for work and evening. The radio controlled Citizen is immortal. Yes there's a current uptick in brands producing colourful watch dials - but consumer trends have gone from colourful plastic watches of the 80s-00s to monochrome 'minimalist' & pvd black sports watches in every fashion brand.

>Using false evidence in a courtroom
That's a nice way to do something illegal. Did you just admit in your own post that a fake Rolex and a real Rolex are the same thing? What's the point of buying a Rolex if you don't even wear it in public? If losing 10.5k is a big deal to you, maybe you shouldn't buy it.

It depends on the watch and the person asking. I only wear G-Shocks so when guys compliment it I tell them thanks and ask them about their watch or why they don't wear one. When girls compliment me depending on the watch I either respond with "It's a special collaboration with X", "I didn't come like that, I actually changed the bezel and strap myself" or I let them try it on. With guys it's more of a back and forth conversation. With girls it's about teaching them.

>> No.17194445

In January, I dropped into my nearest AD here in Japan asking about the new 36 mm Explorer (all-steel version). Was treated very coolly by the sales staff. They had no watches to look at or try on. They showed me the watch I wanted in the catalogue but showed no interest in engaging with me as to how I might go about getting the watch. No waiting lists in operation, and I was just told to call back from time to time on the chance they might have some new stock. The sales person refused to give me one of her business cards when I asked: She clearly didn’t want to see me again.

I was so annoyed by the way I was treated, the next day I went online and ordered the Explorer from a grey market outlet in Osaka that I’ve used before. There was a substantial markup, of course - about 50% up on the RRP, which did make me wince a bit - but 4 days later the watch was delivered and I’ve worn it every day since. Part of the satisfaction of wearing it is remembering the unhelpful way I was treated by the AD, and knowing I got the watch I wanted regardless.

I don't know if that anon was trolling, but I used to work for this absolute buffoon that basically told me the same story - he really wanted a motorcycle called a Triumph Thruxton R, but the bike shop only had the regular Thruxton and said the R was impossible to get. They talk him into buying that, he goes back in 2 days later and there's multiple Thruxton Rs on the sales floor. He now goes into this part of the story where he "teaches them a lesson." He goes to another bike store, sells them the plain Thruxton at a loss, then buys the R from a private party for over MSRP. He's looking at me after telling me this story gleaming with self approval, like he won some kind of battle, and basically says he really got the best of that first bike shop somehow. I'm looking at him like WTF are you even talking about, and he dismisses me saying when I have money someday I'll understand.

Mechanical knowledge and all that you don’t need to know. All you need to know are the prices and the prestige. When they say they like your watch consider the following: “aw thanks man. It’s nice to have a watch that costs more than most peoples car”, or even “thanks it was either this watch or a house and I already have several. Houses that is”. Just be sure to make everyone feel inferior and ashamed of what they have in their wrist.

>This "community" is filled with passive aggressive cunts who will try to convince you to buy meme brands like Blancpain, Girard Perregaux or Glashutte Original.

Honestly, not wrong.

The watch community is filled with clowns falling for the "just as good" fallacy. The reality is that most people got into watches because they first saw and wanted a rolex.

>"Buy a Halios/Omega/Hamilton/etc! They're just as good and you'll save money"

These middle of the road brands like Omega, longines, oris, hamilton, etc. serve two purposes:

1. They lead you astray from what you truly want, with a promise of better value

2. They are cope watches that people buy to pretend like they got a "real watch" with "heritage".

The banal evil with them is that these watches won't scratch the itch. You'll still be looking through magazines at Rolexes wishing you had saved a bit more and got one. Eventually you'll sell your Hamilton Khaki Scuba for a quarter of what you paid for it, and buy the rolex anyways, so might as well just get on a waitlist now and get what you want in the first place.
