>> No.17186888

>>17186863
Frequently because they indys actually use a large amout of natural ingredients. When dior or tom ford says a fragrance has natural french lavender in it it means the entire batch has 10 grams of extract in it and the rest is synthetic lavender aromachems. When an indy uses lavender they just use lavender extract they don't just put a few drops in for advertising reasons.
Im not sure why this surprises you, you think a guy making a few hundred bottles at a time is getting the same bulk discounts on ingredients that tom ford is?

>> No.17186903

>>17186888
If they're getting a bulk discount on ingredients, wouldn't it make more sense that the big company would use more of it while the little guy has to use it far more sparingly and cut it with cheaper shit?

>> No.17186920

>>17186903
Nope, only makes sense in your head
In my experience its the exact opposite of reality with tom ford frags having a formula cost of 2% of msrp and indys having a formula cost of 50% msrp
Indys don't have shareholders demanding that every penny be squeezed out of the business and the people running them actually care about perfumery.

I want to smell like pic rel. I have tried most of the commonly recommended "woody" fragrances: Oud Wood, Tam Dao, Encre Noir, Wonderwood, Grey Vetiver, Terre d'hermes.
None of them are exactly what I'm looking for, they all mix some sort of citrus or fresh accord in with the wood.

I want to smell like just straight up deep rich woody wood, like a lumber yard.
I don't have any specific type of wood in mind, maybe just a blend of woods that form a gestalt of generic "woodiness"? Please rec me something, thanks.

>> No.17187691

>>17187686
People will say BI but I'm wearing it right now and it's not quite "natural woods". Maybe CDG Wonderwood? Terrible performance though from what I've heard.

>> No.17187692

>>17187691
Already tried Wonderwood, as listed. Its nice, don't get me wrong. I like it as a fragrance, and I wear it sometimes. But its not the strong pure woodiness that I'm looking for, its more aromatic than I want.

seems to me that a small time guy can't even get the stuff to begin with. Like, the suppliers won't sell in anything other than bulk, and anyone who would sell perfume chemicals in non-bulk sizes would charge up the ass for a small amount.

It seems more likely that a middle class person selling perfume will simply have a smaller profit margin. And someone doing this would be doing so not for the money but because it's something they wanna do. Because any indy small perfumer could make way more money with far less effort by just getting a regular job

having said that, it doesn't mean they are good. for example, I tried the Rogue perfumery sample set and while they seemed high quality, I suppose, they just didn't smell that good to me. just something to keep in mind

I can also confirm that people really like BI. I went to a bar on Thursday night after work to drink to drink a Bloody Mary. The girl behind the bar told me she likes my perfume and asked if it was Molecule. That surprised me that she asked that but she told me I really good and wanted to know what I was wearing. A guy told me I smell good and wanted to know what I was wearing and that I should give him some. I took that with a grain of salt because he once told me I smelt good when I was wearing Armaf CDNI. Then I went home.

To be honest, there are other frags I enjoy more, but people seem to enjoy it, so I wear it. Although, I am looking forward to autumn so I can wear a different fragrance.

Sweet, syrupy, cloying, and generic smelling. I shouldn’t have been too surprised given this was released after LVMH’s acquisition of Guerlain. I feel like if you go to the fragrance counter at the mall and close your eyes and randomly smell various frags, what you smell wouldn’t be too dissimilar from L’homme ideal. Piercing aromachemical woods with syrupy orange, plastic orange blossom, bitter almonds, bad cherries, pine needles, vetiver, and plastic leather — all wrapped up in heavily sweetened ambered booze. It’s a hot mess of clashing synthetics, and all of it feels incredibly generic. I’m willing to give the EDP and Extreme a shot, though.

The good news is DHI doesnt appeal to me. It’s a chocolate mousse cake with vanilla whipped cream. I like it, but not my style. Glad I was able to decide that in one go at least.
1881 smells grandpaish. at least the opening. The dry down is better but not sure it’s something I can wear.

Dior homme '2011' is now named Dior home original. Hard to find, can be bought through Dior site in certain countries.

Dior homme intense. is the easiest to find. Skips the fresh iris opening of the original and jumps into a iris chocolatey musky mid and turn it to 11. More powdery, sensual and darker.

Dior homme Parfums. Hard to find like the original. Like Sauvage elixir, DHP have little to do with the two previous. Still a beautiful iris, but mainly a smooth leather fragrance backed by rose, sandalwood and oud. fantastic combination of dark leathery but also clean and floral, almost soapy.

I don't know. It's very rarely cold where I live, to the point where I don't think I need a frag for colder days
At first BI reminded me a bit of Sauvage for some reason, and right now after wearing it a few more times I understand the people who say it smells like bug spray to them (in the opening) even though to me it's not unpleasant. I don't care about owning hundreds of samples of various scents because I'm not autistic. Depends on what week you ask but here are some of them
BI
Sung homme
Ganymede

Why do you guys hype it that much, it's just yet another cheapie. What makes it better than drakkar, meme water or whatever else?
>Ganymede
Most people on here haven't tried Ganymede and it's not talked about very often compared to BI

Am I right in assuming that The Dreamer doesn't really appeal to women at all and that it's not a crowd pleasing frag?

>> No.17190143

>>17190138
I dont like any of em, just what gets spammed the most on here. Ganymade doesnt get talked about much, but some people recommend it at the weirdest times.

>> No.17190144

>>17190140
I cant see how it wouldn't be a crowd pleaser. Its a smoky iris. The opening is harsh and awful, but the drydown on skin is very pleasing and calming in my opinion.

>> No.17190152

>>17190144
The opening is very synthetic. You're right that the drydown is better but longevity is awful unfortunately.

I think im lucky then, it lasts about 8 hours on me, i really love the scent so i sniff my wrists throughout the day, and it usually fades a couple hours after i come home.

Can anyone describe how hermes h24 smells like in layman terms?

>> No.17190406

>>17190400
Yeah it smells ethereal, with rhubarb, a sort of sweet gummy bear accord, the smell of a hot clothes iron and a musk base. Good performance, good longevity, interesting and unique while still being something easy to like for people in your life who arent into frags. Its a genius fragrance that is going to be huge in a few years but is very under the radar now. Ahead of its time. Finally something to replace boring blue shower gel shit.

What about bois imperial, is it the same kind of frag?

>> No.17190423

I haven't smelled BI, i would say they are probably representative of a new emerging genre but they seem to smell prerty different. BI is more dry and woody and h24 has a tiny bit of sweetness to it, but isn't in any way a sweet or gourmet fragrance.

>a new emerging genre
Futuristic/artificial molecular frags have been done before though haven't they
Is there any other recent frag aside from those 2 that you would say belongs to this genre

>> No.17190443

>Futuristic/artificial molecular frags have been done before though haven't they
Yeah but something like molecule is different.
I mean bi and h24 are both just, overdose of new aroma molecule fragrances which has been a thing in perfumery for the last 100 years at this point. But i think they do something different. The sort of airyness is different than frags from say the 90s that were supposed to be airy or ozonic.
I guss ganymmeme would be in the same genre as these other two but i dont think its mass appealing like h24 and BI is.
But maybe im full of it.
>>17190425
Eh not really there is some fruity sweetness there but its mostly more of an airy diffuse quality.

>> No.17190451

>>17190443
>something like molecule is different.
M01 is airy alright. But it's a gimmicky "minimalistic" scent at the end of the day so I get what you're saying
>The sort of airyness
I haven't seen many people describe BI as airy
