WAYWT bros? For me, it's my 1970's Tissot Seastar PRX-predecessor that I recently serviced. It's pretty beat and has suffered some water damage to the dial, but it's now running strongly and has some NOS parts in it. Pretty happy with how it turned out now everything works as it should.

Thanks Anon, it has (what I think is) a really cool in-house Tissot 2031 movement with an unusual compression setting where you hold the crown in to set the time. I fixed another Tissot from the same era with the earlier version of this movement (the 2030) inside of it, and they're incredibly fun to work on as well. I own a 35mm ice blue PRX as well, and I'm honestly amazed how close they got it to the original one from the 70's. I might dump some pre and post-service pictures of the movement in a bit if anyone gives a shit.

>Kinda want a new one
Honestly, the PRX was the first brand new watch I've ever bought after 10 years of collecting watches, and I love it. My only real gripe is the butterfly clasp. In cooler temperatures it can fit too loose, but if it's hot like it has been today, it's too tight. Why the fuck they didn't just put a normal folding clasp on it is beyond me. I can add or remove links quickly enough, but lack of real microadjustment is completely retarded in [current year]. I live in the UK where it's cold most of the time though, so once summer is out I should be fine.
>Kinda want to take off the seconds hand
Unless you know what you're doing, I'd strongly recommend you don't try and remove the seconds hand yourself, and even if you can, I wouldn't bother anyway. Mine aligns incredibly well, but even if it didn't I wouldn't really care all that much anyway, the exposed seconds hand pinion with no hand on it would irritate the fucking life out of me though. Here's some related gore: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=irORaww8bc8

TL;DR - If you like the look of the PRX, buy one. The 35mm fits most wrists perfectly, but the 40mm only works on larger wrists due to the extended l2l with the bracelet endlinks being fixed in place.

Push-pins.
>Do they have half links, or like full ones?
Two half links, a shit load of full links. You can get a perfect size, but as with all butterfly clasps, weather will make it fit either too tight or too loose on occasion. If you live somewhere hotter, you can probably size it a little better.

The 35mm one contains an ETA F05.115, which is incredibly accurate, but also quartz if that's something that bothers you. For the price bracket, the movement is fine if you like the design enough to buy one.

Serviced it myself, here's a pic from before I did it. I think I still have the progress pics saved too if you want me to share them, I posted them a few threads back. The battery corrosion ran entirely through the watch which is what prompted me to service it as opposed to just giving it a light clean up.
>you have any recs of what I can read to be able to service a quartz watch myself?
The 2030 and 2031 movements in my two Seastars aren't very well documented online honestly, so I had to kinda wing it - I don't really use guides whenever I mess about with these things anyway though, it's largely trial and error. The best recommendation I can give you if you want to get started fucking around with things like this is take A LOT of photos of every step of the process while disassembling something. If you think you're taking too many, you aren't. You should also buy some cheap pill-trays or something else with little compartments in it, and make sure you sort all of your parts and screws appropriately when disassembling things. It makes the process so much easier when it comes to putting everything back together.

If you're completely new to this and don't want to invest a lot of money in it, buy some cheap damaged Seiko SQ's from the 90's and have a crack at taking them to bits and reassembling them. You don't need expensive screwdrivers, tweezers, cleaning equipment or any of the other bullshit people seem to think you do. Grab yourself some of Changs finest presto hand removal tools, a set of antimagnetic tweezers, some lighter fuel, a set of screwdrivers, and a case holder. If you want some cheap tools recommendations, I'll grab you some eBay links for stuff that literally costs under 10 USD a pop.

Fair warning too, your first watch is almost always a sacrifice in learning. Buy something you don't care too much about when you get started so you don't feel as bad if you fuck it up. Hope this helps.

The main issue you could run into is some of these movements may not be serviceable (lots of quartz movements are plastic-riveted). That said, you could always just movement swap stuff if you like it enough, just make sure that you find a suitable replacement as dial feet and hand sizes vary a lot from movement to movement.
>Problem is I atleast have manuals when I do what I do and can atleast reference them, I have no idea what to troubleshoot in a watch apart from the motor and checking the gears.
Again, this varies a lot from movement to movement - If it's a relatively common one, you can probably Google the reference followed by troubleshooting steps. Loads of watch forums with servicing guides are readily available online if you just Google it. My first port of call with quartz watches though is checking for any signs of corrosion as in 99/100 cases it's a battery leak that someone has tried to clean up and hasn't realised that it's ate up all the traces out of view (see pic related).

Given your background in something similar to watch repair, I'm sure you'll get the hang of it with some practice Anon. Good luck on your attempts to fix your stuff. It's always nice seeing people have a crack at stuff like this. Should post in /wt/ when you make a start on it.

That wasn't me but since you're so interested, I don't mind spending 150% or even 300% of the price of the watch for something that will give me the peace of mind that I won't ruin the watch if I forget to take it off when washing my hands or showering, I do mine spending 1000% of the price I paid for the watch just so I can go ''ooooh it glows in the dark'', plus I want to learn to do it myself, I like crafty hobbies. I might even change the gaskets myself and just have it pressure checked, which won't actually save me any money since a 2 gasket change for a regular watch is in the price of the pressure test at my watchmakers. I can't believe I have to explain this to you.

I looked at the traska explorer homage some anon posted before, liked the sage green, but I dislike the new case. It would be better with 18 or 19mm lug width. Pic related. Fake on the left, genuine on the right.
For reference, this is a $500 fake from one of the best chinese factory. It's considered a premium replica (this is a basic 3 hands with no complications, when you hear about $1500 replicas people are talking about fake Daytona).

>crown on the clasp
Genuines are sharp and clean.
Fakes are just gross.
>hands and indices
Genuines use white gold which has a specific shine. Hands have a slight curve.
Fakes are made of steel and are completely flat.

These are the most obvious clues. There are others : engraving on the rehaut, crown, proportions... But the best giveaway is the overall feel. A genuine Rolex feels rock solid, while a fake will always feel like a chinese cheap shitter (because that's what they are).
If you have any doubt, just unscrew the crown and wind it. If the crown moves, it's fake. If it makes a disgusting sound, it's fake.
And despite all that, if you still have any doubt (you'd have to be a retard at this point), just test the accuracy of the watch. Rolex will be -2/+2s per day. A fake (even one with a supposedly 1:1 movement) will be AT BEST -10/+30s.

The "watch experts can't distinguish a real Rolex from a fake" meme needs to die. Anyone who has handled a real Rolex in his life can spot a fake in less than 5 seconds.
