There are some Grand Seiko I really like and I'm actually considering one atm, but let's be honest : GS will never be "the watch to own"..

They've been distributed in the west for less than 10 years, on a market completely dominated by the swiss (even the brits failed to compete against these fuckers). The only people who buy them right now are either contrarians or watch nerds (ie not the usual luxury customer).
They lack the sexyness their main competitors have. I deeply hate modern Omega but I gotta admit they're excessively good at pandering to normies and young people (and you kinda need that to become "the watch to own"). Sometimes it feels like GS isn't even trying to be a luxury brand (their website is a joke, for example).
There are still some major design flaws. I've recently tried some GS and THEIR BRACELETS DONT TAPER. It looked so disproportionate and crude compared to my Explorer. Same with their leather straps, they feel cheap and plasticky.

That being said, I would rather buy a GS than anything else in that pricepoint. You can tell they are very well made, and how the watchmakers have more control of the brand than the marketing team.

So yeah you're right, for slightly less than 6k you can either have a diver from Omega that nobody wants, or a basic 3 hands from Rolex that sells for x1.5 its MSRP on the grey.
Rolex is raising their price faster than Omega because they can. Demand will always follow.
In a couple of years, you won't find any Rolex under 8k MSRP. Omega will stay within the 5-10k price range because it's more comfortable for them, and because ADs always give you a 10% discount on any Omega.

Rolex is right to raise their price. They have the best specs, the best brand recognition and best of all, they're now forcing Omega to compete with their entry level brand Tudor (which also sell above MSRP on the grey). Chad move.

Do people really consider that kind of stuff when buying a watch? The other watch thread is a mess with elitism and status. My favorite watch I’ve ever owned was under 1000. I won’t lie, I’m not rich and my most expensive watch cost 8,000. I never wear it. I like my tissot and hamiltons better. These threads are split between people who love watches and are helpful/contribute and toxic trolls who ruin the thread by baiting and gatekeeping. Just a weird community lol
