Yeah, especially if the bracelet had to be exactly right since the clasp would have the superior quartz logo. Here's the watch from the 1977 catalogue, the bracelet reference is in the bottom right - XBA280, the bracelet itself has that embossed on the underside where it connects to the watch.

A truly vintage DJ? Probably. This will probably make people seethe but vintage Rolex are not all that well made, especially compared to modern watches. They’re not bad watches as long as you know what you’re getting into and pick one in reasonably good condition. I doubt you’d lose much money even if you bought one now and sold it down the line.

If it’s your first Rolex though I’d just spend more on a modern OP or DJ.

The movement in the old DJ is amazing, just make sure to buy one made after 1988 (the 3135 movement has quick date function and better PR).
The problem will be the bracelet yeah, especially if the watch was made before the early 2000s because Rolex used hollow end links back then, and the clasp was terrible.
And just like any vintage watch, they won't be anti-magnetic.

Despite all that, vintage Datejust have so much SOVL.
Is it reasonable to spend 6 or 7k for one? No. But I totally get it.

>analog
>mesh strap is a must
>standard numbers, no roman numerals or numberless face

Generally when buying vintage watches you should be ready to get them checked/serviced at your local watchmaker when you first get them, so you can have a peace of mind later on. The movements on these are fairly simple so any watchmaker worth his salt should be able to service it. There is nothing in particular with them that would fail, they usually just need a cleaning and new oils.

Yeah, people become memetubers to eran a living doing almost no work, that's why they have always the revenue on their mouths, it makes me completely stop watching when a memetuber starts bitching and moaning about how people dislike too much sponsors, literally saying the video is free for us so we shouldn't say anything, when we literally have to endure minutes of ads on youtube, then more minutes of sponsors and then the patreon and self promotion, it's tiring to have to literally skip half the video because if they don't keep making more money they don't even make videos.
Adsense was the worst that could ever happen to youtube, it literally killed all creativity and now no fucking one makes a video because they like it but because they eran money.

The whole point of Watchfinder (the Youtube channel) is to promote Watchfinder, the pre-owned watches marketplace.
Watchfinder is way too dependent on Rolex sales, and now that the market is changing they're shitting themselves. One of their direct competitors, Chronext, recently fired 40 employees because the sales are plummeting.
People don't want to buy overpriced Rolex now.

Now I think this video >>17168277 is absolutely hilarious because even though people don't buy Rolex above MSRP anymore, they still want a Rolex more than anything else. So Watchfinder is in this situation where they want to be less dependent from Rolex sales, but they still have to make dozens of videos about Rolex so people keep watching their videos.

I can't imagine how butthurt the people at Richemont must be.

Thinking about getting an Orient Kamasu, the red dial really speaks to me. I want to buy myself a watch for graduation/getting a job in the field. Would it look nice in a suit? Tho i like it, i'm not dead set on it for my first purchase. Would you suggest something else? Or maybe getting a leather strap with it to switch between office and other activities?
Also, i found a reseller for pic related, seems mint condition, barely more expensive than the retail Kamasu, but i feel like it would be a sin to swim with a leather strap, maybe a fabric or diving strap to go with it (i don't think steel would look well on it).
I would like a mechanical/automatic. I feel a little overwhelmed when looking through seiko models on websites of nearby stores, and i don't think the pics would capture how the watches would look irl. Bunch of Seiko 5s and Presage but i can't really tell which stands out as a good fit (and the latter can be a little pricey for my first purchase desu). Looking for something that could work in every occasion, so i'm a little shy about a bambino, or something too dressy or an open heart complication. Yes i've gone down yt rabbit holes.

Buy a GS for yourself if you really like it, there are tons of them with different cases and dials so you're bound to find something you like. Their bracelets aren't bad by any means, they're just not Rolex level of good. They pair well with straps so there is no need to worry. Best options currently would be one of the Birches (white hibeat or spring drive, black, green) or you could always go for one of the classic Snowflake, and if you like the look of the 44GS case there are stunning dials to be found there as well. Take your time, look around, consider your options, then buy something you actually really like.
