Any good watches with no calendar, clear face, and with 15 minute increments? Wind up if possible. I've only ever owned digital watches and I'd like something slim and hardy.

What they don't tell you is that they also replaced the bracelet screws with cheap pins and moved from Genta's original monobloc design with the caseback fully integrated into the case with the bezel attached on top to an easier to manufacture case design that would allow them to attach the caseback separately to save a couple bucks on each watch.

But the average Patek buyer neither knows nor cares about these flagrant downgrades, only that the watch says Patek-Philippe on the dial.

The GD-X6900 is basically a completely different watch than the regular 6900. It's bigger but the numbers are super crisp and it works fast as fuck. Its got a hueg battery and passed the same toughness tests as the "King", that overpriced huge square, but the GDX isnt as popular and thus you can find it for dirt cheap.

Modern watches disgust me. Too large, too thick, too distasteful. Those flat mineral and saphire crystals are awful.
Give me a good old vintage watch, gold plate, none of that modern PVD shit, 33mm, with a thin as fuck mechanical movement that still works perfect 50 years later without any service.
Give me that thicc domed acrylic crystal
Give me that flexible gold plated bracelet.

Anyone else hate chronographs?
>They clutter the dial, they're useless but not the aesthetic kind of useless like a moonphase.
>You'll never fucking use it.
>Adds to service cost substantially, whether you use it or not.
>Makes the watch FATTER.
I've tried to like some but at most it's the Sinn 356 with the 38mm case and hesalite.
I can understand sporty or tool chronos to some degree, but dressy chronos are an anathema.
I thought it was a recent phenomenon until I saw old prominent name pocketwatches from like 1909 and the late victorian era that had chronographs.
The owner of such a watch wouldn't have ever needed to use it ever.
Patek wristwatches from the 50's had chronos. Same as above.
So why choose it?
I suppose I just value simplicity of dial and legibility above all and chronos shit all over that for no good reason.

Diminishing returns. Is a Patek costing 30k 10 times nicer than a Longines costing 3k? If you view everything through those lens than idk what to tell you. If you want a GS designed GS finished watch then you buy a GS.
>remember when Seiko SARB/SARX used to look absolutely identical to Grand Seiko
I wouldn't say they were identical, but they were very nice for their price. The Seiko that made them doesn't exist anymore though, with the popularity of GS they figured they could piggyback their way into a higher price point and they are currently still in that process. Most Seikos were too cheap for what they were anyway.
The Sharp edge series aren't that far off the SARX vibe though.

No. In fact, I think you're an idiot. A chronograph is the 3rd most useful complication after a date and diving bezel. The immense complexity of it is the appeal. Some of the most beautiful watches ever made are chronographs and if you don't appreciate the genius that goes into a rattrapante, I'm inclined to say you don't really understand much about mechanical watchmaking.

When you have to invent reasons for using something, reasons you wouldn't normally ever bother with, then it's functionally a gimmick and not really useful.
Chronographs are as much an upsell gimmick as moonphases and tourbillons. You are not an astronaut, jet figher pilot, race car driver or anyone else who's miraculously bereft of their usual instrumentation and has to rely on their backup wrist watch. You are a fag that sits at a desk and times how many times he has to fap during a work day.

Lume is great but I’ve only had it for a year, so no word on long term lume. Bracelet is way better than base model orient, which was how I justified the purchase lmao. Accuracy is pretty good, I generally reset every week or so and it’s never super out off. I wear mine constantly and like it a lot but if you have sub-7” wrists I could see this being a little large. It’s noticeably heavy but not at all uncomfortable. I caught mine for $500 and would absolutely pay that again for it, it’s a very nice watch.
