So you’re going with the typical clueless trust fund brand? HAHAHA

You guys need to cut it with the “I’m gonna give it to my kids” especially when you’re a kissless virgin. Focus on getting laid at least once first before thinking about kids

Also, it’s a marketing meme. You can leave your kids anything and if they like you they’ll cherish it. Leaving them a Rolex won’t mean shit if they’re shitty father who beat them locked it in a safe. They’d much rather inherit his old beat up Citizen with all the stories on the dents

This. One of the big reasons I think people want a watch that'll be good for a very long time (assuming it gets serviced) is so it can last many generations. That way "your legacy" will live on longer. All of that doesn't matter if you don't have any good stories to go with it. Not to mention something without moving parts like a signet ring will outlive any watch on the market anyway.
If you really want to be remembered keep a diary, take pictures and care for your family.

Thanks, I will look into it. I had a g-shock some years ago (can't remember the model, it was a present) that was supposedly WR to 200m and it got foggy and eventually died after a trip to Vietnam, I imagine due to the extreme humidity and heat (kinda like pic related). I didn't do anything crazy like scuba dive and I was under the impression these things were indestructible, so that's why I want to be sure whatever I buy will last me. Is the 5610 good enough or should I be looking at a different model? I don't mind paying the extra if the watch will last me a lifetime.

Implying that you need to spend more than €200 on a watch.
Rich people get and stay rich by managing their (passive) income and expenses well. Watches are an unnecessary luxury (functional jewelry) in our modern world as there's a clock close by almost everywhere you go. Not spending a lot of money on shiny frivolities is entirely in line with the mindset of a rich person.

I am looking for a mechanical or automatic wrist watch with the alarm functionality,so that I can have every function I need in a single watch, which costs below 1000 ron(208 USD) at most 1500 ron(260 USD),has atleast 100m water resistance,IS SHOCK RESISTANT and the case itself and the bracelet is made of a metal which dosent degrade with time such as steel.
Before 4 days ago I did not think that mechanical or automatic wrist watches could have a alarm mechanism built into them which is why I wanted a ae1200whd.
I need one watch with all the necesary functions for daily use(time keeping and a alarm which could wake me up) so I could easely take it with me and go wherever I need to without worrying about a lack of alarm or about my phone breaking.
I already own one simple automatic watch which has done its job quite well except for the lack of alarm functionality it has.

An F91W will never outlast a G-Shock because a G-Shock is just an F91W wrapped up in a more durable package. F91Ws are pretty durable but the first thing to go is the strap and the glass is plastic so it gets scratched. It doesn't compare to a G-Shock. The functions are also very limited.

It's not a maybe lol. A battery powered watch is more durable than a mechanical. Toss a G-Shock in the air and then toss a Rolex in the air over some concrete. See which one breaks first

As for long lasting, let's look at some quick maths:
>Casio DW5600 with Tough Solar and Atomic Time Keeping & 5 Alarms = $90
That's going to last about 15 years without a battery change. You spend $10-20 on the battery. That's less than $150 spent in 30 years on a watch that is:
A) More accurate than any mechanical
B) More durable than any mechanical
C) More functionality than any mechanical

Compare that to any Swiss mechanical, which will run you $400+. Keep in mind, mechanical watches need maintenance every 2-3 years at minimum. For brands like Rolex, Sinn, or Omega, these fees can be $1,000. You're going to mail it in and not have it for a few weeks or maybe months. Yes, potentially, a mechanical watch will last you however long its insides can keep functioning, but there are factors to consider

At the end of the day, what is a smarter decision? There's no post-Apocalyptic scenario where quartz batteries will be impossible to find, and any watch dealer can change it. Meanwhile, some brands only authorize certain dealers, and if not, get ready to spend thousands of dollars and wait a few weeks to see your watch again

Mate, if a solar emp happens in your lifetime for a 1/10000000000000000000 chance, I think what watch is on your wrist is the last think you'll need to worry about, considering 99.9% of humanity, probably you, will be dead and just trying to survive in a wasteland. Any Rolex will be obsolete and worthless in the new economic scenario. IF its worth anything, you'll just get robbed. Or barter it away. And in that case, you'll have no watch anyways.

But yeah....sure, we gotta watch out for those solar emps

An atomic clock measures time by monitoring the frequency of radiation (energy) in atoms. It is the most accurate time keeping humans have. We can measure things in nanoseconds. Casio's Multi-Band 6 (6 radio towers. 1 in Japan, 2 in USA, and the others are somewhere else I think) technology syncs with atomic radio towers to receive this data and applies to your watch.

Not him but CME's only destroy some of the electronics, it won't kill you. Even with electronics it'll only destroy smaller weak spots and stuff that wasn't shielded during the event. If the atmosphere were to go away or if everyone on earth were to go into orbit during that time it would be a different story, but obviously this will never happen.
Also the probability of an event like the Carrington event is estimated to be 12% per decade, that most likely gives worse than a coin toss chance of it happening in your lifetime. The very unlikely event that you're probably describing is a super flare, which still wouldn't kill us, but as it stands right now would destroy most electronics which would take years or even decades to fix.

Why are you so paranoid of things that will never happen? The US military endorses G-Shocks, and even encourages them for their robustness, reliability, and accuracy, and they are not worried about either of those things.

I've been a tour guide in the mountains, a sailor, and a safari guide in the African bush, and let me tell you, I don't trust any mechanicals out there. No matter how much they advertise themselves as being the heritage of explorers from the 1960s, they are simply as unreliable and more weaker than a plastic G-Shock. When I'm diving, I would never wear a steel mechanical. Most divers in fact wear plastic computers on their wrist nowadays, but that's besides the point.

At the end of the day, I can't change your mind about how plastic makes your skin feel, and I do own several mechanical, because I liked them (Hamilton, Vostok, Accutron) and I need a more dressy watch, so I am not 100% biased towards plastic digital.

There is a charm in exploring with an Explorer or diving with an Omega, but time (and Japan) has made them obsolete

The problem is that it’s an obscure complication that is more complex than it seems. Adding substantial water resistance and shock protection on top is not an unreasonable request, but it is laughably unreasonable for $200. That’s why the closest you’ll get is the vintage Seiko or Poljot, and I guarantee both of those will either stop working or implode if you try to put them in water or drop them a foot. Just for reference, a watch that actually fits all your requirements is a Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris Memovox on bracelet, which retails for around $18,000. That’s why everyone is making fun of you.

Moon watch is just a meme. If they went today, they'd use some digital watch. They wouldn't even need chronographs really. It's all computers. Also, Rolex orbited the moon and Seiko, Bulova, Casio, Sinn, and Fortis have been used in space

No diver uses Rolex anymore

Omega paid $20,000,000 to Sony to be in the new Bond movies. Connery wore his Rolex for free. Seiko is also a Bond watch. If Bond was real he'd probably opt for a G-Shock, Garmin, or Suunto. Maybe an Apple Watch. Apple Watch is basically a Bond gadget anyways

https://www.hodinkee.com/articles/a-former-cia-case-officer-reveals-the-surprising-connection-between-watches-and-espionage
>CIA Operations Officers view watches as another tool that can be leveraged to accomplish a mission or extract yourself from a particularly hairy situation. A watch like a Rolex GMT-Master has a perceived inherent value and is recognized worldwide in both the rural mountains of the Hindu Kush and the back alleys of Bangkok’s seedy Patpong district.
>Should you find yourself in need of immediate help, the watch can be utilized as a form of currency that can be traded for a few hours of shelter in a basement, a ride to the nearest international border, or even a seat on the next plane out of a war-torn nation. A Rolex is easier to carry and less likely to be misplaced than eight ounces of gold or $15,000 in cash. CIA finance officers will not reimburse a personal watch if used for this purpose, but ultimately it was a financial risk I was willing to take in my overseas operations. I have a Rolex GMT-Master, myself.

Seems legit, thanks for your source. Also not sure if this changes much with an EMP created by a solar flare. Wikipedia states that a geomagnetic storm is comparable to the E3 component of a nuclear EMP and your linked article states that E1 seems to be the most damaging to electronics. However E3 and geomagnetic storms are not exactly the same and the geomagnetic storm of the Carrington event lasted 2 days, which if it is capable of destroying any electronics gives it enough time to do so.
Still wouldn't be too worried about it since it can be predicted and a Faraday cage is pretty easy to make, but it's fun to read and think about.

After some more quick digging it seems like I was wrong in my understanding of solar flares, CME's and geomagnetic storms. The false information out there that says smaller electronics would be affected come from unreliable sources. Smaller electronics will be mostly fine, it's really only larger systems such as the power grid that would be affected. Thanks for teaching me this anon, cool stuff.
I have had a few reliable sources state that electronics could certainly get damaged at a larger scale, though never explicitly stating that smaller electronics would be unaffected, due to the portrayal of EMPs in media I had wrongly assumed that they would also affect smaller electronics.

They were really reaching for the barrel with this one. Real life isn't like James Bond. No one undercover is going to trade away a watch in a 3rd world country for a seat on the plane.

bagelsport is the original chinkshitter ali special, you can even find it recommended in that ancient /wt/ guide that was outdated by 2016 or whatever, at those dark times there were like 5 microbrands and they were mostly shit, but the offerings from normal brands like Seiko were amazing value, like a third of the price of what you get now, sucks that I had no money on watches then
also, bagelsport a shit, get a san martin or at least a pagani design or a steeldive
honestly, explorer homages are on every corner, every single homage brand(95% of micros) have done it
I'd personally probably go with San Martin, any lower and it's basically a throwaway trinket once something fails

What a fucking retard. At least do a google search before writing essays about things you don't know

We should put some effort into writing a new, updated pasta one day, so we can then leave it be for another 5 years.

Fossil fucked me off on a vintage Zodiac Olympos too Anon, I know the feeling. There are a few people who will work on these, maybe reach out to Wristwatch Revival on YouTube and explain your situation. He often does work for his subscribers.
