Why do ALL current, affordable, watches look so boring?

I took a walk through the HUGE watch section of a local department store and all watches all look 99% the same to me. I saw ZERO (0) creativity NONE. It's all just slight variations of classic tool and dress designs. At this point isn't the market saturated to a point where it's worth the risk to make an interesting design to stand out? There are of course the ridiculous fashion watches but these are made with 0 taste.

It seems like if you want an interesting, pleasant design you either need to buy vintage or spend 3k+
