I’ve been in a sandalwood haze recently as Héritage is still blowing me away. Unfortunately, and this might have to do with the recent rebranding of its bottle, it doesn’t last all that well on me.

As a solution that isn’t lotion or moisturizer, I thought of doubling down on the sandalwood of the fragrance with a shower gel. Been looking at Geo F Trumpers sandalwood shower gel recently. Oud frags were a shitty trend from 2018-2020. Ironically enough, most "oud" fragrances, even those that actually contained real oud, smelled nothing like oud at all as it was usually heavily masked by other stuff thrown into the mix. Why? For an example i would never wear paco rabanna invictus, because it smells like an awkward teenager. I also own some soliflores that i love, but they don't fit my style.
You have to remember that the people around you remember you and subconsciously judge you by your fragrence. If you ever watch those blind smell videos, they always anthropomorphize the fragrences because they fit a certain type of person.

you are definitely right, but i feel like both are true. If a bodybuilder walked around with an intense floral fragrance for women on, you might think he just sprayed his girls fragrance on himself. Sure you might start associating him with the smell, but it would always in my opinion seem off. Working in a clothing store you often times get close to customers who put a little bit too much cologne on, and i have several times gotten a whiff of someone and just thought "please stop wearing old man/woman fragrances". So while i agree with you i still believe fragrances fit a certain type of person.

This mentality is what leads to 40 year olds wearing one million. You have to realise that even though confidence can get you a long way, we still have ideas and perceptions of scents, colours, styles and so on. We associate these things with certain groups, due to prior experiences, what we hear from others and so on.

How do I avoid irritant fragrances? One of the reasons I stopped using the perfumes I had was that they all made me sneeze and feel bad, specially if I got my pulse too close to my nose. They were usually citric as far as I'm aware.
Ok, I know the obvious answer is "try them out", but I want to know if the problem is common enough that there's a substance or two I could avoid and most likely solve my issues that way. Reading the label would save a lot of time, specially because the nausea part only happens after prolonged exposure for me.
If not, guess I'll just try something different and pray.

By the way, I thought it would be too old so there was no point mentioning it (+10 years), but for me the main culprit for sneezing was the Azzaro Pour Homme. It's in the chart in the sticky, so I guess it's still used. (unless the formula changed significantly?)

Unless you are using older frags or non-IFRA compliant, which are very rare, it’s probably psychological or you already got an irritated nose from rhinitis and any strong smell would trigger a crisis.

to the anon who asked me last thread to provide my thoughts on the Lalique Lion, Cerruti 1881 and Bois Imperial decants I received:
>Lalique Pour Homme Lion
a classic barbershopy melange of citrus and aromatics on a base of oakmoss and sandalwood. the sandalwood combined with the twist of vanilla and iris makes this a very comfy and calming scent to my nose. It's certainly old-fashioned, but I prefer it to the more spicy scents in a similar styles like Guerlain Heritage, it's just so mild, smooth and easy to like for this genre
>Cerruti 1881
a citrus-floral chypre in the vein of Eau Sauvage, maybe more on the floral side. very nice, refreshing cheapie for the summer if you like this kind of old-fashioned floral + aromatic scent. might last a bit better than Eau Sauvage, but not by much. it is much cheaper though
>Bois Imperial
spicy green woody scent. I do get some varnished wood vibes. not bad, but linear and not much to it, too minimalistic for my tastes. my mom hated it too lol, so it doesn't exactly seem like a safe blind buy crowd pleaser. it does last pretty well though

But of the apple frags recommended I'd go with the PdM Layton as a gift, or if you're on a budget I'd go with the Boss Bottled or Bottled Intense. They have that apple pie with vanilla ice cream vibe, really nice as a gift for someone who is casually into frags.
