Asking you guys for some recs

Any ideas for a designer priced scent for a 20-something male who wants to smell good but isn't very manly?
What I mean by that is, I don't like wearing frags like Eros, Aventus or Antaeus because I don't pay attention to coming off as masculine and I'm not the assertive type. I'm more of a gentle and easy to get along with kind of guy but I still want a good frag, do any of you have some ideas?

Would also like something wearable all year round if possible, or at least one summer option and one winter option

I got memed into buying pic related as my first frag by this thread and I actually like it, although it's not great for hot weather. But maybe something with the same kind of vibe would be nice? Any suggestions are appreciated anyway, I'm open to whatever

No. It's great for shopping at IKEA, because it's basically "fragrance camo". You'll smell like the furniture. It's a unique fragrance, for sure, but it leaves me completely neutral and my gf hates it (for example).
So for the recommendations, it's like one guy posing as three making the recommendation all the time. I got duped into buying the 10 mL, should have bought the sample set. And that is what I would recommend - the full Essential Parfums sample set. Affordable and comes with a discount if you decide to purchase a full bottle. Don't make the mistake I made and buy BI only. It might not be for you.

Well, yes, but I should have bought the sample set. I still want to buy it, I'm always looking for nice new frags and sample sets, and it would have set me back the same amount. I'd recommend some more florals if you liked the dreamer:
Hermes H24 (unique, kind of fruity-floral with a "freshly ironed clothing" note. soft, pleasant and pretty much unisex)
Dior Homme Intense / Original / Parfum (beautiful floral iris frags. Original is the most "year round", but most people prefer the stronger, sweeter, darker flankers)
Prada L'Homme (a more soapy and clean iris frag)
Rochas Moustache EDP (vanilla, rose, slightly boozy, slight pepper. very likable, unisex frag)
Cartier Declaration D'un Soir (fresh rose with the stem and leaves + some spices and a bit of sandalwood)

I only really spent time with by the fireplace. But you can smell what they are trying to get at. It isn't actually a smokey smell, but they have something in it that kinda hints at smoke. You have like a spicy vanilla that helps. It is very pleasant. It is also reasonably popular. A large perfumer near you might have it. A few years ago it was on everyone's top list.

Fahrenheit is an amazing scent still, it's just hard to completely disregard the whole hype around it, based on it being "le manly fragrance for manly people such as myself". If you're not even 30 like me, you start having doubts if you can ever "pull it off", which is most of the time a pretty stupid way of thinking, if you have a bare minimum of confidence that is. I can't stand the Sauvage EdT, it just doesn't smell good to me. The synthetic pepper note lasts forever and is disgusting. Aventus is just sweet and sour the whole way through, and while there are other facets to it, it's mostly just sweet and sour. I wouldn't want to smell like that. I say that as someone who has bought many crowdpleasing designers and who shills anything else from Dior in these threads.

I've gotten compliments on dates during the time where I was wearing the Axe Dark Temptation EdT. This is fucking weird, I smelled the wrist I had sprayed JeP Acqua on again and it seems to have dried down into a floral aquatic that's actually not bad. Very unisex, not reminiscient of the sea but more like a lake or pond in the summer, it's pretty good and more floral than aquatic imo.
But I already dropped off the package at the post office. lmao

By the way the performance on Profumo is fucking dogshit holy fuck, it took three sprays on my wrist for me to start smelling anything more than a faint aquatic and even now I barely get the incense.
>How strong is the coconut
It seems to be the base of the perfume. Very sunscreen-y vibe to me, right now the mandarin has gone away and I'm left with a creamy coconut with a very slight hint of citrusy freshness. I wasn't looking for an incense frag specifically, just for an oceanic aquatic with some longevity, but it seems that all the good ones are niche. Kenzo, Profumo and all the others usually recommended designer aquatics are one dimensional as fuck and very unimpressive, everyone shilled Profumo as this kind of powerful marine frag but it's just yet another mass pleasing freshie. Acqua is the first interesting one I've smelled but as I said it's more floral and the aquatic notes take a back seat
>between Clown Water or Clown Water Intense
Honestly, CW is superior. First off, it's more versatile, as I couldn't see myself wearing intense if it's not hot and sunny outside, it's a quintessential summer scent. The longevity seems decent but I think CW's shitty performance is overblown, I wore five sprays of CW two days ago and could still smell it on me three hours later. Of course if you want strong projection you'll need to apply a lot and reapply regularly but it's cheap enough that I don't think this is an issue.

>Cucks most aquatics
Not too impressive a feat apparently. Designer aquatics are pretty much a static, synthetic marine note made even more generic by the addition of typical "compliment getter" fruity/sweet notes (or incense in the case of Profumo), so you end up with just a mundane masculine frag with a fresh edge. I wish there were other options for aquatics than "generic designer shit that all smells the same" and "niche scent that literally smells like sea water"

Damn son, I'm filling rooms with it. It's even long-lasting on top. It becomes insane when you heat up and I'm trying not to wear it on the days where I'll hit the gym after work, because it's still too much. This is according to someone who I trust, I only rate the longevity.
Who knows, maybe it's skin chemistry, as my skin tends to "eat" some of those proclaimed "beast mode" frags (which are somehow always made by L'Oreal) and easily cranks up others to 11.

>>17135169
If I had to decide between CW and CWI I'd get CW.
As much as I love CWI, I mostly love it for the price/performance as well as not being a bad fragrance by itself. It's still a loud and sweet crowdpleaser-type fragrance and has nothing to do with the OG. The OG is a better fragrance and probably more versatile.

Honestly, I have never smelled something even remotely close to the sea. All those, "marine notes", "acquatics", have those parfumers ever been to the beach, let alone the open sea? The sea never smells sweet, like most scents sold as "marine" do. Nor it does smell citrusy, although it is arguably closer to it than sweet (and more pleasant too).
The main accord is salt and drying seaweed, it's harsh sometimes but the latter accord can just be toned down. Salt must be one of the cheapest ingredient too, yet no "marine frag I smelled was in any way salty.

Vaporwave is both nostalgic and futuristic, which is what makes it so dreamlike
It's nostalgia for something that never really existed but that everyone can feel nonetheless, it's ethereal and aquatic but in the manmade sense, not the natural sense: swimming pools lit up in blue, pink and violet, greek columns and statues, empty lobbys, a feeling of luxury and mystery but also emptiness and melancholy. I don’t think Caron pour homme smells like an old man. It’s mostly lavender and vanilla, some stringent alcohol and musk smell to the modern. The vintage is smoother and smells of higher quality. If you don’t want the vanilla and musk try the leau flanker. It’s citrus, lavender, vetiver and ambergris. Both are very nicf

The stringent alcohol is only in the modern formulation and only in the opening. The dry down is smooth. It’s all very natural smelling and worth sampling. Although it’s simple in composition it’s still very different than anything else you’ll find being produced today. It has a “niche” feel to it. It’s worth at least sampling. Sample the leau while you’re at it, that is even smoother.

Maybe it's more popular in Europe.
Anyway it smells incredibly luxurious and expensive, castoreum, resins, rose, carnation, a soft impression of leather, drys down to a luxurious musk. Smells so well composed and is just a fantastic example of fine perfumery. I wear it at least a couple days a week, works for just about any time of year other than maybe heatwave days.

it's definitely not an easy fragrance and may be polarizing - also I think a big issue is that it's not very versatile. also I can see that it might get annoying with constant wearing if you'd like a 'signature fragrance'

keep sampling stuff and browsing fragrantica, I really recommend you to try out BI; though it might be a bit on the 'masculine' side by how you referenced some other fragrances, but it's definitely easy to wear and not cloying at all. not sure what else to recommend outside of the other bisch fragrances and nuit bakelite, encelade is nice but the first hour is way too pungent even with one spray

Was hoping for some recommendations on a first not super cheap scent.

Good options for a tomboyish (both in appearance and personality) early twenties female to wear daily to my college courses?

I've had a few other perfumes in the past, but all super cheap stuff. Im wanting to buy something quality this time, i can afford like 300 dollars tops.

My favorite I've had so far was pic related, i still use it almost daily during the spring and summer despite it not lasting very long on my skin. i actually ended up adding some of it to my shampoo to try to get the scent to last longer on me than a couple hours.

I cannot stand florals, especially rose, and i typically like sweet, fruity, and spicy scents. Bonus points if theres some vanilla notes in there, i love basically anything with vanilla.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions, I'm really just looking for a place to start since I'm relatively new to this stuff.

From what I've personally sampled so far, Carner El Born might be right up your alley. Fragrantica lists it as amber floral, it really isn't very floral though, but it has nice sweet coziness and great vanilla (really one of the best IMO), very wearable for both sexes, but even more so for a girl. Yatagan is to perfumery what Laphroaig is to Scotch Whisky. Not everyone likes it, but those who drink it, love it.

What is wrong with you? If you lowkey want to buy this, why don’t you just lowkey buy this. Why would you expect somebody to waste 15 dollars just so they can tell you how this smells. Don’t you have 15 dollars to waste? Are you poor?

You can repeat that a million times but I will tell you once again that if you have somebody around who would absolutely tell you if that was the case, you can safely apply whatever frag you want.

it's still popular because it's the best 80s-style chypre ever made
it's also more balanced and elegant than some people say, it's memed as this super animalic beast, but it's not really all that shocking

aqua allegoria pamplelune is a good tomboy scent. basically a hyperrealistic juicy grapefruit

my favorite vanilla scent is Guerlain Shalimar, it's also the sexiest scent to me and does have some masculine elements so it's not totally feminine. but some people say it smells like their grandma, so try it before buying lol
as for more modern stuff - rochas moustache, eau des baux and noir extreme are targeted to men, but are really very unisex and are all nice, spicy vanillas

Tried Sedley today and oh my god it's disappointing for a "fresh" summer fragrance, Sedley does the job much better because the dry down is not as boring but both have awful performance
Luckily PdM does better fragrances for the cold and dark seasons

Tried Sedley today and oh my god it's disappointing for a "fresh" summer fragrance, Greenley does the job much better because the drydown is not as boring but both have awful performance, I will try Percival next.
Luckily PdM do a better job on fall/winter fragrances.
