Just to be clear.
Everytime someone shills for this Youtuber, I will post the pic in the OP. I'll never stop.

I haven't worn a watch since middle school but over the last two month I got roped into watches through youtube.

Now I have a dozen or so models on my list of watches I find interesting, but I haven't bought a single one. I really want to check out all of these models in person, but all the ADs I went to sporadically have none of them in stock.

What do I do in this situation?

Dior for whatever reason has some of the best gemsetters around and periodically churn out haute joiallerie pieces, pic related. LV has a couple mad lads who have carte blanche and a seemingly infinite budget to do whatever they want, so every couple years they come out with something mind blowing. Bulgari is known for jewelry but their movement in the Octo shows they’re serious watchmakers both with respect to ultra-thin movements and high end finishing.

Tudor on the other hand will always be kneecapped by Rolex. They have never made anything interesting and probably never will.

Hello brothers in Christ. I’m looking to get something more casual, this was a gift from my father, and I just can’t wear it every day. I went to a jeweler and they basically confirmed the Rolex meme, but I was told if I buy my wedding bands there and a woman’s watch that I’m basically guaranteed the GMT before my wedding (May 2023).

The question is- what is the best GMT2? What are other alternative watches I should be considering for day to day? What is a good gift for your best man?

Thank you /wt/

Likes:
- Yellow and black goes OK with khaki pants and a blue, green, or grey shirt.
- Looks nicer than a g-shock while still being a huge tool watch.
- Appeals to my interest in mechanical things.
- I can fidget with the bezel.
- Has the 5-bar+date dial, which is my preference out of all the 65XXXX kommandirskies due to playing so well with the corners of the unique octagonal case and the bezel design for that series.
- Similarly, I like the 65XXXX bezel because it actually matches the font Vostok used for the hour numbers on the dials for this case. The other bezels seem to clash.

Dislikes:
- Can't really wear the yellow face with anything OTHER than khaki pants.
- The bezel printing is actually kind of blurry.
- Friction bezel never stays put.
- The movement isn't that accurate.
- The acrylic fishbowl they used for a crystal is a scratch magnet.

Yes, you'll fuck it up harder and end up with a worse result. Once you own a watch, and WEAR it, scratches and such are expected to occur. Forget about it and enjoy the watch.
When the time arrives for the watch to get serviced, if it still bothers you too much, you can ask for a genlte polish, but keep in mind even an experienced watchmaker can make a few mistakes, and the Omega Official Servive Center will probably fuck it up as well.
Again m8, just enjoy the watch.

Think about it. Youtube wants people to stay on the platform as long as possible. And nothing keeps people glued to the computer like being angry. The angrier people get the more they comment and make videos of their own. So you're probably helping this guy more than you are hurting him.

It's true, and that's the 3rd point made in the image. If you want to hurt the guy, watch a few seconds of his videos and then close the tab. If a high % of people watching the video do this, Youtube will basically shadowban him.
The thumb down is just a way to tell Youtube you don't want to see this channel in your feed.

No, they're trying to discourage dislikes (hence why the rating was removed) so that it would only be used if it was truly worth disliking instead of just to troll, since now trolling with it has no visible outcome.

Reminder to avoid microbrand trash.
>I originally received my Yema watch and it arrived broken. The watch wouldn't even start. After waiting longer than advertised to get my watch from France, this was very disappointing.
>After sending my watch to get fixed, it was returned in working condition but there was a hair inside the case, between the dial and crystal. Unbelievable. Had to wait a very long time to get my brand new but broken watch back and when it arrived there is a visible hair between the watch face and the crystal. Seeing a hair every time I look at my watch is unacceptable, and when I brought it up I did not receive a reply. Making it worse, they didn't even pay for the shipping like they said it would.
>The bezel does not exactly line up with 12:00, which impacts the aesthetic of the watch. This is a clear sign of poor craftmanship.
>Over the past 6 months the bezel lock has become looser and looser, won't stay tight, and now rattles when I wear the watch.
After recently circling back with Yema to get my watch fixed, they replied saying that the watch was past the warranty period. This is only true if you start the warranty at the time I received the BROKEN watch. One would think the warranty would start once I received a watch that worked.

It's pretty simple. Take a look at Baltic. People seem to have a positive impression of them. Timeless designs, French, blah blah blah. Great. Now realize all their cases and most of their components are Chinese and they use $100 Miyota movements while charging $600+ per watch. From their own website:
>Our aim is to offer timeless pieces, of the highest quality, for fair prices. The horology has drastically changed the past decade, and we would like to take part in this new era by offering direct-to-consumer sales. We remove the traditional industry margin, which allows us to offer far better prices. We don’t have our own retail structure, but this doesn’t mean that we are unreachable. By doing only direct distribution and reducing our overhead, we can be more accessible through social media. We are in touch with our customers every day online. You are more than welcome to stop by and say “Hi” on our social media if you have any questions; we will be available at any time to help you.
Literally

The unfortunately reality is watch enthusiasts are a niche. Of that niche, the number of people who could actually explain how a movement works is minuscule, as is the number of people who can identify differences in finishing or decoration quality. Most watch “enthusiasts” don’t know how a movement works and don’t care. It’s just a fashion accessory. These are the people getting duped and screwing everyone else over. It’s actually sad because I like Baltic designs and think some other microbrands are doing cool things, but watch buyers are too retarded to demand better. That’s why you should just avoid them. Brands like JLC, Rolex, and Grand Seiko are run by watch autists who will not put their name on bullshit.

This one is pretty obvious but there are some very good looking fakes that will fool you 100% of the time if you have never handled a genuine Rolex in your life.
If you already have though, then you can tell almost instantly. There's always something in the proportions and the overall impression that look and feel off. It's like that uncanny valley thing that make you say "wait there's something wrong here".

Rolex are actually really hard to copy despite being simple looking watches. They are simultaneously sturdy and delicate, and fakers always fuck up one of these two aspects (most of the time the latter).

You're right, but it's not even a matter of having handled a fake before. Even with the good reps if you have them side by side, it's obvious. But on another person's wrist, unless you're invading his personal space, you can never get a close enough look. You can either look for obvious stuff, like a quartz 'tick' or you rely on context clues.

I'm lurking a forum about replicas and that is hilarious. The guys who buy fakes always go for the most insane watches : platinum Daytona, GMT Master II on jubilee, Royal Oak Offshore, Nautilus Annual Calendar...
If for whatever reasons I decided to buy a fake, I'd choose a watch that don't require an insane amount of work. The simpler, the fewer the risks of getting caught.

The point is it doesn't matter anymore - reps are so good that it has become irrelevant. Smart wealthy people will always buy the rep because the result is the same - nice looking watch that other people admire. Poor people buy reps because they can only afford the rep. Only a small population of retards buy gen Rolexes, terminally middle class, always have to stretch to buy them, and freak out about reps because they somehow think their "achievement" of buying something they can't actually afford is being undermined.

Exactly. The all-steel Cartier Santos, the Rolex Sub, some of the closed caseback Panerais, etc are both basically flawless but the originals are also not so expensive, so when you don't drive a Ferrari it doesn't spoil the illusion.

Rolex GMTs were not hard to get back then. They weren't even that expensive either.
Both watches were from Tom Selleck's personal collection. He thought the GMT-Master (not a II, that hadn't been invented yet) looked cool and fit the character.

Selleck was given considerable leeway in terms of developing the character, which is why Thomas Magnum was a Detroit Tigers fan. (Selleck is a native of Detroit.)
