Now show Johnson in accounting a genuine Daytona and a $1500 super replica, ask him which one is real, and I'll guarantee you he'll be right 100% of the time.

It's because JLC has always made pretty understated and elegant designs. Normally I don't screech about sizing too much because I get that manufacturers need to follow consumer trends, but the new Master Control being bumped up to 40mm really rubs me the wrong way and the models on bracelet they've released makes me think they're trying to make it a sports watch which is just bizarre.

I get that I'm in the minority though and that almost no one buys dress watches anymore so there's no reason for brands like JLC to give a fuck.

Not the og anon but vintage watches are a pain in the ass when it comes to serviceability, magnetism, water, shock. I guess I want a dress watch in a cool modernish designs & construction in a classical/vintage size. So it’s really upsetting to see all those big brands never shut up about their fucking heritage & do endless reissues of historic pieces but then never do them in a way that is true to the actual history. JLC is one of the worst offenders on all of these accounts.

>But they really haven't
Yes they have. I'd wager around 40% of the watches they've ever made look like some variation of this. Another 30% are Reversos which are instantly recognizable even if they are 60 years old. The rest are oddball watches that quickly get cancelled or highly complicated pieces.

My problem with JLC-Richemont is how they're trying so hard to keep up with their reputation of movement makers.
They'll often release the weirdest and most useless watches with (often) the stupidest design choice.

Take pic related for example.
>chronograph with a calendar and a moonphase
Such a weird design... What purpose does it serve? Measuring the speed of tides?
>luminova on the hour and minute hand, no luminova on the chronograph hand, subdials and indices
Another weird choice. You're allowed to read the hour at night, but you can't use the chronograph complication. The smart choice would be to get rid of the luminova on the hour and minute hands, VC does it for its heritage chrono and it's fine
>that 12 index
Now this one is pure autism. They kept it because that watch belongs to the Master Control collection which has applied numeral indices. So you have that "12" by itself on the dial and it looks stupid.

I make more than you can ever dream of making. I buy reps because buying a gen would be stupid, nobody can tell the difference and everyone knows I'm rich, nobody would question if my watches are real. Obviously the intelligent decision (you know, the type of decisions that I make correctly which is why I am rich and why you are terminal middle class) is to buy the watch for $400 instead of $15k for an identical outcome. The only people that care about rep vs gens are middle class Erics that can just barely afford (or really not afford and go into debt for) a gen watch because they live in a terminal authenticity crisis. We all know these Erics, they are sales managers, live in $600k houses in prefab HOAs in the 2nd nicest part of the suburbs, drive leased Audis, really I can't imagine a worse life. At least poor people don't have anything to lose, and of course being rich is great, but being barely middle class and still trying to keep up, and trying to get luxury goods in the mix? Sounds like hell. Pic related it's Eric's dining room.

They're fine. They've been around for a while and used to make cases for a lot of other brands' dive watches, like Doxa and Heuer.

Most of their lineup is simple Rolex cope, but their signature model, the 1521-026/A is decent. Slightly overpriced for what they are, though.

Hank is a man who is willing to spend more for a quality tool. He would never buy a luxury watch but there's no way he'd be wearing a $30 Timex that won't last longer than a few years. Thoughts on Tiffany & Co watches? I keep reading that they are massively unpopular, especially compared to Cartier and similar brands. I almost never see them on here, unless they are vintage.

the CT60 is the bread and butter of the tiffany line up for men and features a movement developed by la joux perret / arnold and sons. The cronograph has the noisiest rotor I have ever heard on a watch. most of the atlas collection feature a quartz movement. The tank is also a viable option and features an eta automatic movement. East/west is goofy looking and no one really bothers, but are available in quarts and mechanical. There is no official word yet but I can say that tiffany watches are about to get an entire overhaul. The current lineup is the last batch of the old tiffany.
