Okay so i'm about to buy my first Rolex. I'm getting it on the grey, fuck it.
Money isn't an issue, but the size is. I wont be getting anything over 36mm.
I'm hesitating between these 3 models
>Rolex Explorer steel
I love it. Classic, timeless. Unironically the first model I thought of when I decided to get a Rolex.
>Rolex Explorer two tone
Hated it at first but after trying it I'm seriously considering it.
The 3D renders from Rolex don't do it justice. These pics are way better :
https://www.hodinkee.com/articles/the-two-tone-rolex-explorer-ref-124273
>Rolex Datejust
This would be the safe choice I guess. Jubilee and flutted bezel because IMO that's the only DJ you should get. I also love it because it looks expensive as fuck. The only thing that's holding me back is the cyclop. If they made the OP with flutted bezel and jubilee, I'd get it in a heartbeat.

Shit, didnt finish my post...

If I had to choose right now, I'd get the two tone Explorer. I love the model and the history behind it. And because I want a "fuck you watch" the two tone version is ideal for me. I also absolutely love the Jubille bracelet but it won't work on an Explorer, but I think the touch of gold makes it up for it.

What do you guys think? Which one would you get?

Depends on the model.
For a DJ, you wait a few weeks unless you want a really uncommon color combination.
For Explorers, the wait appears to be 3 months or less, according to the experiences of guys on the forums.
This is all for people with no purchase history.

If you have history, then wait time goes way down. For example, I got my Batgirl in a little less than a year but I'd spent quite a bit at that AD in the past.

Even if you're not a diver, the diver bezel can be pretty handy as a quick, coarse timer for things. I've used it to time out doing sections of exams.
People also like how a good one can have a little bulk and feel a little masculine without going over the top but that depends on what you like and how it wears on your wrist, of course. And more broadly, they initially became popular for the implication that you were going to do something cool with them. Divers don't even use dive watches anymore but people sill feel there's an implication about watches used by people that 'do things'.

>> No.17095497

All right, I guess I understand somewhat. I never got the impression that someone with a dive watch has a more active/cooler lifestyle though. I think that's more something dive watch wearers want to convey, rather than what most people think of them.

That's probably overthinking it. Dive watches are so ubiquitous now I don't think most people even realize that style was originally developed for scuba divers. They probably just think that's what a sports watch looks like.

The thing is, if you're buying a rep, at least be smart about it.
First, buy a rep of a watch you'd be able to afford after saving for some time. Sporting a 40k Breguet when you're driving a Toyota is stupid.
Then, don't buy a watch with insane complications and precious materials. Chinks are able to make some good copies but even them have their limits.

Well, it appears that two engineers, two building consultants, and a faggot adjuster later...they are finally going to write a 2 million dollar check for this motherfucker. Gold fuck you watch, here I come. Downside is the the only gold bracelets watches I can actually walk out of an AD with here are rose gold/yellow gold Speedy Pro or a yellow gold Santos. Does anyone here have experience buying outside the US from an AD? Been thinking about taking a vacation to the USVI to buy something duty-free, and was wondering if AD's in somewhere like St. Thomas would actually have stock to walk out of the store with. Going to Vegas is also another option, as I imagine that the dealers in a few of the casinos might actually have stock to sell onsite.

Looks really cool, congrats on the purchase and happy birthday Anon! I'm a gigawristlet, so I'd never be able to get away with the 40mm version myself. Lucky I'm more a fan of smaller stuff anyway really. How are you finding it so far? I really like mine.
>>17095448
I really like Long Jeans, I wish Swatch Group would let them do more interesting stuff though, same goes for Tissot. I like yours though, definitely one of the nice ones.
>>17095452
Fucking awful. They dropped the ball by making it way too big and offering it in (imo) shit colourways. It's ridiculously thick. If they did a 37 - 38mm version with a quartz movement it would be really nice, though. I don't know why Tissot keep doing shit like this and completely missing the mark, it's like they are oblivious to their place in the market sometimes.
>>17095462
Love your Seiko Anon, looks awesome. I have a bit of a thing for vintage quartz Seikos personally, they just ooze personality. I have a couple of SQ's myself (diver and a sports watch), some of my favourite watches I own. How much did it cost you? I've seen some of the chronos bringing mad money now.
>>17095469
Thanks dude, really nice GS you got there too. If you're unsure about the colours for the PRX line, definitely go check them out in person. The ice blue shifts dramatically depending on the lighting. It sometimes looks silver in certain lights (see pic).

£51 off eBay in 2015, I used to love trawling new listings trying to find poor descriptions, this was a "Seiko diver watch" with no mention of movement number. I try not to pay any attention to what it's actually worth because I'm keeping this one until I die, it's vaguely horologically significant (first every quartz analogue chrono) and I just love it.

I just call them "Daily wearers". They're tough enough to deal with pretty much anything you encounter in normal day-to-day life. The complications are intended to make your life easier. If you time a lot of things, you can get a chronograph. That world timer would be useful if you travel a lot or have to do a lot of business with people in other time zones.

If you were to build a three-watch rotation, one of those would be your daily watch, then you'd get a dress watch like >>17095893 for when you need to look sharp, and for weekends/casual wear you'd get a sports watch like a Rolex Submariner or something.

I had a local watch shop do a once over on the movement and put the new hand on, lets say $75 for labor. The strap was done by a local leather worker that specializes in bespoke watch straps. He does great work and I gave him an even $200.
