I need your advice /frag/
I realized I'm starting to buy frags every two weeks. I want to put an early stop to this habit before I'm in too deep, so I need a signature scent. Can you give me some ideas? Here's some info
>mid twenties
>don't have a specific style, fairly athletic and have long hair
>easygoing guy, people mostly call me chill or aloof, I'd like a 'calm' scent not some sexy loud clubbing frag like phantom or whatever
>live in hot country w/ mild winters
>decent longevity would be nice
>niche is fine, a high price is fine if it's justified by performance, but if I need a lot of sprays/to reapply often then I'd rather not go above designer tier prices since I'm gonna wear it all year round

I like what's fresh. Though I think citrus easily gets boring, and my least favorite fresh frags are Chrome and Chrome Sport
As far as woody scents go I prefer aquatics, I don't mind Tam Dao or EN but they end up getting too dirty and earthy for me
Among what I've sampled recently I liked Voyage d'Hermes and disliked Kilian Black Phantom. Sweetness or overbearing spices aren't my thing, it's too obnoxious for me

Understated and simple. A lot of relaxed fit shirts, no accessories at all except a band to tie my hair sometimes. Light/pastel colors in the summer, darker ones in the winter. Sampled this and I'm quite disappointed.
Opening reminds me of Cool Water which is great and all, it even smells a bit sharper and better overall (don't get how people can say it's unisex, it's definitely a male scent), albeit more linear, whereas CW gets warmer with time. It even manages to perform worse on my skin?
As other MFK samples I've got BR540, Grand Soir and Oud Extrait. The latter smells promising so far, will have to try again though because I showered 3 hours after applying.

If you buy a bottle direct from their website you can get it without thw statue for a chaper price and he will also give you five 11ml sample bottles of your choice of his other fragrances for free. It's definitely worth sampling at least. The citrus is only in the opening. This is mostly lavender with spices like cardamom. Starts of kind of tender, like a romantic encounter in a humid morning forest glade. Becomes drier and powdery, like walking out of the forest to meet the midday sun, and more spicy to give it some edge. Over all it's very smooth.

Excellent question, find reviewers you like and agree with and listen to their opinions, be cautious of flavor of the month hype. In the case of invasion barbare it's been around for about 20 years now and it's still spoken very highly of. New york intense isint quite that old but the original new york fragrance has been around for a long time and people were begging the perfumer to make a stronger intense version, she has been making and selling her own perfumes independently since the 80s and she is still in business under the same brand.
Longevity isint always a good thing, especially when independents sell out to conglomerates but if an indy perfumer has been around that long and people are still buying their stuff it's usually a good sign.

I can name a few other nice perfumers that nobody would squabble about them being called niche
Strangers Parfumerie / prin / prissana
And independent perfumer out of Thailand that has gotten a decent amout of praise, the three brands share the same website and perfumer but sit at three different price points in the market which makes them fairly accessible.
Bogue - Italian brand that focuses on natural perfumery
Rogue perfumery - interesting takes on classic fragrance structures (a few posters really hate this guy for reasons)
St clair scents - i haven't tried this
Francesca Bianchi - she gets mentioned here somewhat frequently she tends to have a house accord that most of her fragrances share
This is just off the top of my head

Ok, bros. Sniffed some of my samples and rediscovered Bois Imperial and Ganymede.
And although i hated both passionly i suddenly fell in love with Ganymede. BI is similar but gets somewhat soapy in the drydown.

Eau de cologne with cumin and/or civet and supposedly leather but desu I don't get much of that. The original prompt for the perfume was supposedly "The smell of perfume inside of a Hermes handbag". It is not a strong perfume, but that's ok. I have heard that the modern version is great so you don't have to hunt an expensive vintage. I'm just stupid. Also with a newer bottle you'd have the benefit of knowing the top notes are definitely all there.

I posted my collection earlier but deleted the pic. I intend to (probably) cut off my collection at 20 and wait for one bottle to die before replacement. What would be 1 good warm, 1 good cool weather frag to round it all out?

Oh to clarify I meant I don't get much if any leather but I do definitely get the cumin/civet. I don't think cumin is a listed note but it does smell like it, and everyone seems to go with that. I get more civet in the pewter cap and more cumin in the copper cap. BTW, the "pewter cap" is pretty much just black. People just refer to the vintage black cap as pewter cap. The perfume currently comes with a black cap.

I gotcha. Vintage perfume is just better than modern perfume. The perfumery (skill) was better, the ingredients were better, the perfume is often stronger. Everything is better. I do love some modern niche and a few artisan/indie perfumes, but I'm mostly into vintage.

Referencing the note pyramid on fragrantica does not tell you if it has ambroxan or not. Fragrances don't have to list ambroxan as an ingredient and note pyramids can say whatever the fuck they want to say, they arent ingredients lists they are suggestions of some the the accords they want you to smell in the fragrance.

I haven’t worn the Jimmy Choo Ice but it smells really fresh and invigorating and has some Invictus vibes, but I could be managing it because I haven’t smelt Invictus in a really long time. I can’t comment how long it lasts but I would have no problem with applying a few squirts if juice after 3/4 hours without having concerns that I’m wearing too much fragrance because it’s so fresh.

Missoni is really strong, and it’s good at what it is, a blue fragrance that reminds of typical mens showergel/deodorant e.g. Lynx.

If one of my friends were to gift me a frag, I'd probably hate it. Bet it would be Sauvage EdT or Eros or some shit like that. >If it's her that claims reformulation, I wouldn't bother giving a damn.
Yeah she seems like a crazy person.
Her claim that it's been reformulated based on her saying that the current juice is a slightly lighter shade then it was were before 2006 or something. I wouldn't be surprised if a 15+ year old bottle of perfume had darkened a bit and smelled a little different than it did when it was bottled, hardly conclusive proof of anything.

Explorer wasn't that interesting to me, it's ok at best.
Profumo gets a lot of praise, people in the reviews were raving about the smokey notes and the patchouli coming through, but to me it is just another aquatic freshie which doesn't do anything special. It's not bad if you like aquatics.
Cedrat Boise was overly fruity-sweet, but it did have quite some lasting power. Smelled rather synthetic, though.
Intense Cafe didn't have enough coffee for me. It was exactly as often described - roses and vanilla. There are better (and cheaper) coffee frags out there.
