Except it is filled with exactly that, what are you talking about? Did YOU read it? Who would buy this?

"Film Noir is a hidden gem, it smells like nothing else in recent memory and the warm, elegant drydown lingers for days on cloth or hair. Named for the luminous curling beauty of cigarette smoke in old black-and-white films where flirtation mixes with intrigue and everyone smoked constantly, it’s what cigarette smoke would smell like in an ideal world. Which is to say: it smells nothing like cigarettes. The central accord of Spanish lavender, neroli, tomar seed, rose, allspice, orris, honey, vanilla absolute, patchouli, Buddhawood, vetiver, oud, choya loban, tonka, civet (vegan) and oakmoss creates a lingering aura, a mysterious but soft presence that subtly envelops the wearer and creates an unmistakable dry-woody-vanilla-powdery trail that’s never heavy or unpleasant. The perfect morning-after fragrance, it’s wonderful to wake up to on a pillow or undershirt and never grows stale.

Film Noir is incredibly versatile, perfect for cold winter days but with fresh, light and dry-woody aspects that make it great for summer wear as well. It’s also highly unisexy and smells great on skin. On men it seems to project more of the woody-spicy character, whereas on women the sultry, blonde-woody, vanilla and subtly powdery-mossy aspects are accentuated. Performs particularly well when worn in hair."

What an amazing description where he compares it to cigarettes, but it doesn't at all, and says its for cold weather.... but hot too! Oh and it smells good on your skin and NOTHING else in recent memory is like it, WHOA. On men it projects differently then women... im sure, it has oakmoss! ... and vanilla.... cool. Fuck this idiot and his shitty cologne, and fuck you too you furry faggot shill

Gayest thread on /fa/ by far. Imagine wanting to encourage guys to smell like you, and seeking out frags that other guys wear so you can smell like them. Worst part is you have no self-awareness about any of it. I've got lots of frags I adore and would love to recommend. But, I'd rather not have any of you faggots smelling like me. Best part? Women always wonder what the hell I'm wearing that smells so amazing, because they've never smelled it before, ever.

God I used to love Issey Miyake… Shame that it has been reformulated so hard that the fragrance is now a shadow of its former self. I used to wear the fuck out of that shit so hard. The Issey miyake of today is like snorting really bad speed and then you ask yourself… „am I high now?“. The origonal was high quality speed, it was a punch in the face of astringent freshness. POWER!!!

I’m considering getting a bottle of Molecular 01 to layer Issey miyake.. I would give anything for a „Vintage bottle“ of that good shit for those nostalgic vibes.

Never smear fragrances, always dab. If it has a restrictor type element in the bottle opening, splash it on your neck like you would apply hot sauce to food. If there is no restrictor and it would all cone out if you tried splashing like that, this is non ideal and I would suggest getting some empty spray bottles off Amazon and pour it into one of those.

>Is Ambra Aurea worth the price tag?
ambra aurea is probably still my favourite in my collection together with Jubi XXV. if you are a fan of ambers (and myrrh), it's 100% worth the price. however, there are good alternatives (ambre precioux by MPeG, vento nel vento by 1920) that come close for a smaller price

>Or anything from Profumum for that matter.
sure, as long as you have no problem with extrait concentration and linear frags -- acqua e zucccero, sorriso, acqua viva and acqua di sale are all great, linear fragrances

>> No.17090995

>>17090949
A bit one dimensional, but if you like the smell they're kind of worth it because they use very high oil concentration, it's basically extrait de parfum. Compare it to other brands making extrait flankers and selling them for like $400+.

As for ambra aurea, many will put it in their top lists of greatest ambers.

So I’m early in my fragrance journey and I made the mistake of buying alot of cheapies on Amazon. This Chanel de Bleu clone smells the worst. I got this because Jeremy fucking loves Chanel de Bleu and if he likes it, it must be good. Yeah I’m retarded…

Right so… this clone smells very familiar in a bad way, it smells like axe deodriant/shower gel on steroids. I feel like it’s something that a 16 year old/poor/uneducated person would wear… I can imagine that this clones captures the essence of Chanel de Bleur and that it also smells like lynx shower gel. This smells like the colour dark blue… not in a good way.

Right so, could it be the case that a lot I’d designer fragrances have this “manly lynx” smell? I could imagine that this is the case because most bros have really bad taste. I hate the smell of typical mens shower gel/deodorant.

Why would you wear a fragrance that smells like axe? I kind of understand guys like this kind of manly smell. But I can’t fathom any woman finding it good..

I don’t want to smell like something that reminds me of axe, I want to fragrances that smell interesting, like green… and I don’t leaves and shit. I mean the actual colour green..

I want to smell futuristic and metallic.

I want to smell like the inside of the handbag of a really expensive prostitute, like makeup and lipstick and shit…

Like why would you want to smell like axe? I thought that people get into fragrances because they don’t want to smell like axe…

Encre Noir is coming on Saturday and Armaf Club de nuit intense obviously,,.

I’m really looking forward to Encre Noir, maybe I won’t like it, but atleast it won’t remind me of a teenager/Highschool locker room…

Thank you for reading my autistic ramblings,

>Why would you wear a fragrance that smells like axe?
It's kind of a trend, and those fragrances are considered "easy to wear" and are made to be sold en masse to people that are not really into fragrances and just want a "smell". For people that are more interested in the hobby they aren't that good because you know there is better stuff and you care about it if it makes sense. Also people that don't do this as a hobby haven't smelled a lot of things and probably don't have interest to do so, thus they stick with those easy to wear things. Hope it makes sense

Also I'm pretty sure you are wrong, as no one ever said this smells like axe before, and it's percieved as a good frag generally. Try it on a few times and it will probably grow on you.
Buying any frag before at least sampling all the frags in a parfumerie is a mistake. You first need to get a grasp on frags, then you can formulate your opinions and what you like and what not.

Dunhill Fresh just came yesterday. If you like Fahrenheit you need to check it out, it's like if Fahrenheit was dressed up as a wetshaver fougere. I'm getting prominent mint, coumarin, lavender in the opening, as well as what seems like the ghost of Hermes Concentre d'Orange Verte. The star though is that ozonic methyl octine carbonate from vintage Fahrenheit that makes its way here too, along with the heady vaporous florals from the original Fahrenheit. Chamomile and honeysuckle support the green ozonics in the heart. The burnt woods from the drydown of Fahrenheit have been cut out, replaced by a clean fougere base. This is an excellent soapy take on Fahrenheit, perfect for spring and summer. Not recommended if you don't like Fahrenheit though, the main Fahrenheit smell is here and it's extremely noticeable, smelling more like vintage Fahrenheit than the current stuff does.

Almost all blue frags smell like that. There are some good ones that smell a bit salty fresh but all the major ones have this shower gel vibe. Even the better ones like BdC Parfum. Disgusting shit but easy to do.
The reason is that you can’t fit a lot of feelings in a fragrance. You can do fun, you can do masculine, soft, sexy etc. but not all of those together.
So instead of thinking and working on it, they just churn out blue stuff because it smells like „fresh man“ and therefore offers a generic solution that most people will perceive as „doing the job“ and therefore it’ll sell.
That’s unironically why Aventus is so great. It’s masculine, fun, fresh and a bit soft and sexy at the same time without being a blue one or using other tricks. It’s great in itself.
That said, CDNIM is a disgusting cheap and fucked version of the real one. Smells shitty. At least do yourself the favour and order a small sample of the real one to compare.
Encre Noir is absolutely based though. A simple masterpiece for cheap.

>Calone or methylbenzodioxepinone, trade-named Calone 1951, also known in the industry as "watermelon ketone", was discovered by Pfizer in 1966. It is used to give the olfactory impression of a fresh seashore through the marine and ozone nuances. Calone is similar in structure to brown algae pheromones like ectocarpene and is also distantly related in structure to the benzodiazepine class of sedatives.
>Calone is an unusual chemical compound which has an intense "sea-breeze" note with slight floral and fruit overtones. It has been used as a scent component since the 1980s for its watery, fresh, ozone accords, and as a more dominant note in several perfumes of the marine trend, beginning in the 1990s. In 2014, Plummer et al. reported the synthesis and fragrance properties of several related aliphatic analogues

>>17092889
It's different from the original, it's got a bunch of akigalawood in it which is a selective extraction from patchouli oil that is more abstract and peppery than a full raw patch oil note.
Calone was very popular and widely used for a long time, calypsone is a new captive (expensive) molecule so it doesn't have the same wide use. I would say they smell similar but different. With some small amount of the population witha certan gene (5% or less) think calypsone smells like rotten eggs.
Kenzo ph intense is probably better than the current kenzo ph formula but maybe not better than the vintage bottles. There is also now a new Kenzo Homme Eau de Parfum that is more focused on the akigalawood and has less of the aquatic calypsone notes that people say has a similar vibe to bois imperial or Ganymede.

Don't blind buy expensive niche fragrances. But if you want to get samples I'd get that one and L'Air du Desert Marocain from Tauer.
When I first smelled sundowner I got childhood flashbacks from smelling my dad's Marlboro cigarette packages. The amber accord came through as it dried down. So if you like real tobacco it's pretty good.

Definitionally an edp is a lower concentration of fragrance oils than an extrait. However in designer perfumes for example sauvage the difference is both the concentration of fragrance oils and they are faily different fragrances overall.
The biggest difference would probably be chanel no 5 where the extrait/pure parfum is made with an incredibly high amount of expensive natural ingredients while the other concentrations are almost wholely synthetic.

This is a lovely light green chypre. Reminds me of a lighter Etruscan Water, must be the jasmine and then fresh cut grass and hay. Opening, fresh like Jicky. I think I got whiffs of a light honey tobacco in the dry down reminiscent of Naxos, but obviously not as obnoxiously sweet. Summer in a bottle. For fans of Pour monsieur and the likes, although the oakmoss isn't that prominent which makes it fresh, less dated and a bit more unisex.

Disclosure. Sprayed on Bois Belize in the morning and sitting next to a cold fire pit that reeks, so that might influence my current impression.

Edt is a better choice than the parfum
It depends a lot on who you are and how you carry yourself

It is a nice well composed fragrance but it does run the risk of getting called dated. You will just have to see what happens, my wife loves all my old man fragrances.
I think you are removed enough from when people were originally wearing these fragrances that unless if just happened to be your gf's grandfather's Cologne she has probably never smelled it or anything like it before and won't have any kind of "old man" mental association with the smell.

I have a sample of this and it reminds me of a public toilet for some reason. maybe that's the urinal cake smell everyone talks about with some frags, idk.
the only frag I had to scrub off so far
