>If so Hublot and Jacob makes even more rad shit. Would you still claim those brand deserve respect as well?
Hublot does some decent work in materials science. Jacob&Co is approaching more haute joiallerie in my opinion but yes it is certainly worthy of respect, even if I think they're ghastly. Hublot is more of a grey area and I wouldn't be terribly upset if you called them shit.

>make watches in very small quantities
>brand suddenly gains a lot of recognition on Instagram and among watch nerds
>billionnaires from Dubai and Qatar go crazy over them
>brand is now seen as a safe investment
Now the thing with watches or jewelry, is you can invite buyers from all over the world and sell them in duty free zones. They wear them on their wrist when they take the plane, fly back to their country, and sell them locally with a fatter benefit.
Very few people actually wear Richard Mille watches. They're an investment.

>What do you even use a fitbit for?

It keeps track of my heart-rate, sleep, and steps. I've had it for 5 years now and I can see my progress and statistics going back that far, everyday. It's a way to motivate me to stay active and healthy, and I can track it with quantitative data. I'm worn watches for 30 years, so I wasn't going to stop because I got a Fitbit. The Fitbit sucks ass as a watch replacement. You have to turn it up or tap on it to get it to display the time. Tapping it works only half the time. I guess you can have it on all the time but that sucks the battery life from a week to a day or so.

Counting steps is useful if you do no physical activity whatsoever. If you are an active runner it's more of an annoyance than anything as I can run 25,000 steps one day and then it tries to tell me I need to walk 10,000 the next. No, I actually don't need to do that. I'm assuming if this guy has used a Fitbit for 5 years in a row he is at least physically active.

Finishing is expensive. The difference between JLC and VC for example comes down, in large part, to finishing, since JLC builds a lot of movements for VC.

DO NOT USE CAPE COD CLOTH. All you're doing is creating microabrasions. Look at it under flat light and you'll see how the surface is ruined with swirlies.

When you sent it to Rolex, they'll refinish it professionally.

Also, not for nothing, it's a tool watch. If it looks perfect then you just look like the faggot who buys a Range Rover and never drives on anything more challenging than wet leaves.

whatever, its looks soo much better now. i was super hesitant for months because ive seen the 100x pics of the marks it makes, but thats under a microscope, not your eyes. take it easy, and only polish in one direction, no swirls. After my stunning success, the next time I need to do it, I'll get a few different grits of diamond paste and go after it with a wool-felt pad. That leaves no tiny scratches. But it does look so much better. And the reason it does have so much wear is I do wear it all the time, to work and everywhere. I bought it to wear it, after all

You can get a quality swiss made quartz for what 100-200 bucks, that will last a lifetime. What exactly are you spending 5+ figures for, to say Cartier or VC on the dial? You faggots are worse than women who buy a 2 dollar Chinese made purse but spend 5 grand cus it says Gucci, sad.

It's a Cornes de Vache 1955, it's nothing fancy. I bought it because it's 38.5mm and I have tiny girl wrists.

Really easy buying experience. I called the company directly (not a boutique/store), wired them the money over the phone, and the watch arrived the next day (priority overnight shipping).

I wish other companies made watch buying this easy. Just call the manufacturer, buy it at the price on the manufacturer's website, and get it the next day. Fuck grey market, fuck chrono24, fuck ADs. Just let me buy it from the company and be done with it.

There is a difference is quality between some of the actually well made budget watches and well made expensive watches. That said starting around ~$500 is probably where the differences in quality start no longer being obvious from a glance and it's not like strangers are going to inspect your jewelry with a loupe. Heck most normal people won't be able to differentiate between a well made $200 and $2000 watch if it doesn't have branding they recognise. The only logical reason then to pay more is for very specific designs and or features.

This is the one for you.
But honestly I’d get overseas Chrono. Other’s are pretty unimpressive

No, if I needed to insure it it'd mean I couldn't afford it. I might as well buy lottery tickets.

You'd insure your house because you'd be so devastated financially if you lost it you're willing to take a negative EV on it. But if you lose your watches, who cares? But more. Or not, you'll still have a roof over your head

major problem with Rolexs is that they are like modern day Ferraris,
they are never the cool vintage Rollys, like the 335 Berlinettas, just the chunky boomer ones.
Whenever I see a modern Ferrari I think "that guy has the money for a Ferrari and loves cars but does he really have taste, if he did he'd have a 355 and not a brand new California."

>> No.17089429

>>17089421
That analogy only goes so far. Ferrari is not the single largest sports car manufacturer in the world, though. Rolex is the largest Swiss watch maker by a mile. They're a lot less special than Rolex owners make them seem.

Rolex owners are the guys who buy a Mercedes GLA and tell people that it's basically an AMG GT.

sure, close enough,
Rolex is a big enough company where it's known for having big horology autists share the same rank of consumers as boomer paycheckers who buy a 50mm Gold Daytona and close their proverbial watch book.
But that 50mm isn't really why Rolex made their name, which is the bizarre part.
People brag about Rollys being the bees knees but they are really talking about watches made decades ago. Would people say Ferrari is this ALL TIME car developer if they only had the Ferrari California to go by?

Fun fact, the insurance company actually may be able to help you jump the line. For example, companies like USAA have an entire gemology and jewelry department and can help you get a replacement watch. It will be the same model, but used. I believe they can even pay the service expense. Also, you need to schedule any valuable personal property separately.

Also, do add to that...
Individually scheduled items are also covered by loss and theft outside your home. The premium is negligible. Jewelry loss is a popular insurance fraud item because it is basically impossible to prove and the burden of proof lies with the carrier because of the way state and federal laws are structured.

I get what you're saying.

Imagine if Ferrari still made the Daytona and only updated it by adding fuel injection and ABS. That's basically what Rolex has done for the last few decades.
Modern Ferraris may lack the elegance of older ones and they may even be downright ugly, but there's no denying that they are meant to be fast cars and they are indeed ferociously fast.

You can't ask so much with that small of a budget.
Btw citizen makes a cheap lady's diver watch, exactly like the men's version just smaller diameter case, looks decent. No sweeping hand though.

First the spirit Zulu Time GMT and now the UltraChron. I used to see Longines as a ultraboring brand but those are different and interesting. Also cheaper than GS hibeat.

>I wish other companies made watch buying this easy. Just call the manufacturer, buy it at the price on the manufacturer's website, and get it the next day. Fuck grey market, fuck chrono24, fuck ADs. Just let me buy it from the company and be done with it.

Some swatch group brands have an online boutique as well. It's getting increasingly common. And that's a good thing.
