Now I'm looking for an everyday kinda watch and can't seem to find anything to rival the Tissot gentleman powermatic 80... Rolex's lume is probably their weakest aspect. When they switched from SuperLuminova to their in-house Chromalight around 2008, that was generally considered a step down, even after they made the switch to the larger lume plots on the maxi-dials.

Chromalight is cool blue and glows very brightly for the first few minutes, but dies off very quickly compared to SuperLuminova or Seiko's Lumibright, which has a lower initial intensity but lasts much, much longer.

Why do vintage watches cause /wt/ to seethe so much?
Is it because it breaks with the rampant mindless consoomerism in this general?

>> No.17085216

>>17085194
Vintage watches usually make their wearers happy and that's about it. Other collectors might find them interesting if the piece has any particular feature or a pedigree.
Two things are at work here making the typical /wt/ poster seethe. First if they like it they can't get one themselves. Lots of people use these threads to shop and get angry when they can't buy something they like. Nothing more exclusive than something you can't buy anymore, which is why old money has quality antiques and the odd heirloom while nouveau riche only has expensive purchases to show for and will never truly belong.
The second thing is tied to the first one, being that if they can't share your happiness, they'll try to bring you down. It's a visceral thing, nothing calculated. Just a primal urge to wipe that smile off your face with that crab in a bucket mentality.

>> No.17085220

>Is it because it breaks with the rampant mindless consoomerism in this general?
It doesn’t though. Chrono24 is full of vintage watches people can’t get rid of. It’s just as easy to get a vintage watch these days as a modern one unless you’re after a particularly rare model.

If you're looking for Subbie-lookalikes, Steeldive (aliexpress brand) does it much much better than Invicta, for not much more money. They also have NH35, but with very good lume, nice looking indices (Invictas' are green and awkwardly small), cyclops with 2.5x magnification (invictas' does jackshit), sapphire crystal, fully lumed bezel, good finishing, bracelet with solid endlink, and no ugly engraving on the case.

Gerontophilia is the primary sexual attraction to the elderly. A person with such a sexual preference is a gerontophile or gerontosexual.[1]

The word gerontophilia was coined in 1901 by psychiatrist Richard von Krafft-Ebing.[2][3] It derives from Greek: geron, meaning "old person" and philia, meaning "friendship".[4] Gerontophilia is classified as a paraphilia, but is not mentioned in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders or International Classification of Diseases.[2]

>should I get a 14270 or a modern explorer I?
Depends.
I've owned both and they're actually pretty different watches despite their superficial size and design similarities.

The 14270 is more sovlful. It has the rattly old bracelet, folded endlinks, creamy tritium lume (unless you get one of the last versions). It feels very much like an old sports watch. Realistically, though, it's still tough enough to do anything with it a person would reasonably do. You don't have to baby it.

The new 127270 is objectively the superior watch. It's movement is tougher, the lume is better, better power reserve, more accurate, the bracelet/clasp is miles beyond the old stamped sheet metal units. However, now it feels more like a dress watch disguised as a sports watch. It's an elegant watch that has lume.

Again, I've owned both, and sold both, but the 14270 is the only one I miss.

Yes, but no. Not to sound dismissive, but people whose initial thought goes towards a Rolex means that's where they inevitably end up. You want what you want. So get that.
There are plenty of watches that are "just as good" at the same or even lower price points, but you wouldn't want any of them, like the Omega Aqua Terra, for example.

The movement (and watch in general) was in horrific shape when I got it on Saturday before servicing it, so it could be anything, really. I'd guess maybe UV exposure? I dunno. With how beat to shit it is, it looks like it was worn daily until it eventually shit itself catastophically with a huge battery leak at some point, so that's my best guess. See pic related for a shot of the movement with the dial removed.

The PRX is actually based on a later (I think 1976/78?) version of this watch that is powered by a Tissot 2031 movement, which I also own a beat to shit and non-running example of and plan to have a go at restoring sooner or later. Here's a pic of one in nicer condition than the one I own. I'm really surprised they didn't brand it as a Seastar desu, would have suited it way better than the PRX name which was previously used for a completely different style of watch.

Mind you, I also own a 35mm ice blue PRX and I have very few complaints about it, it's a super solid watch for the money and it's probably my favourite watch. The one thing I'm not a huge fan of is the butterfly clasp which has no on the fly microadjustment, but I kinda lucked out as mine fits me pretty much perfectly.

On Chinese homage and DIY watches, assuming they have a similar price, would you prefer a legit 21600bph movement like the Seiko NH35/NH36 or a 28800bph clone movement like the PT5000?
I'm not sure if the potentially higher quality control and longer duration between servicing/replacing the movement on the NH35/NH36 is worth it over having a smoother sweeping seconds hand and potentially higher accuracy on the PT5000. Pic related may be a bad example since an NH35 Pagani DJ homage is almost a third of the price. However the difference in price of the movements themselves is only like $20-30 so technically you could have two watches with almost the same price.

Low carb (fewer than 20-50 per day) is the easiest way to go. If you have never taken that route before, you'll be amazed at how the weight seems to fall right off.

And it's a great way to keep your weight level, too. If you eat like a bastard for a few days and gain a few pounds, just do low carb again for a few days, and the weight comes right back off.

As for keto itself, it's not for everyone. 20-50 carbs per day can be similarly as effective, and it makes exercise easier. Exercise on 100% keto can be rough. Exercise on 20-50 carbs per day is a breeze.
