Fresh but not modern soapy-clean take on the 18th century cologne formula. Spicy and green. Unisex leaning masculine. Not going to get more than 2 hours but it's a pretty great two hours. You cannot overspray.

Not those anons, but Dipthyque seems to have awful longevity. There are feags from there I love but I don't want to spend that much for a frag I have to spray twice as much of to smell after two hours.

Longest, for all of those remaining brands, it varies enough from frag to frag that they all average out to be fine, with some being worse and some being better than average. Take each frag on it's own

Guerlain Vetiver came out in the 1960s. Men who wore it immediately drown in pussy and become fathers. They, being proper masculine, raise their sons right and their sons also drown in pussy. So obviously, those original wearers would be grandfathers now.

shortest is either PDM or heeley, but we are still talking ~12 hrs atleast. And it really is on fragrance to fragrance basis. As athenean from heeley easily lasts 20hrs+ on my skin after I moisturize properly. but stuff like note de yuzu or sal de marin don't go over 10 hours most of the time, the longest on avg is probably amouage cause they do last 24hrs even the freshies. Stuff like tam dao edp or philosykos edp have lasted on my skin over 24hrs as well, however I was well moisturised and have gone ansomic to them so I had to ask my gf if she still can smell it. Both grand soir and baccarat last 20hrs + on me with very soft projection but a great scent trail

>What do you guys think of this scent for a young guy such as myself who's looking for something for the summer?
Depends what you're looking for and how inexperienced you are.

If you're looking for a modern shower-gel fresh fragrance, Eau Sauvage is definitely not going to be it. It's from the 1960's and the fashion of those days was for floral, herbal aromatics. It's got a nice bergamot jasmine pop and a lot of oakmoss. (I won't go into detail how it's neutered from its original formulation.)
Oakmoss can smell very old-fashioned to a lot of people because modern fragrances don't use it. (It's banned per IFRA because it's mildly toxic or something and the synthetic oakmosses aren't great.)

Now, if you like it, that's great, you only bought a sample of it. It's still a masterpiece of mid-century perfumery that everyone should at least try.

For those not following:
>well blended natural and masculine colognes smell old (eau sauvage)
>fragrances with historically and culturally masculine notes smell old (Guerlain vetiver)
>fragrances with historically and culturally feminine notes smell young (Dior homo)
It’s all so tiresome. Masculine fragrances (like everything else) have been corrupted by globohomo by convincing men that a type of fragrance can/will attract women (an inversion of the sexual roles, where men appeal to women through bodily performance rather than competence and provision). That's not to say that dark, heavy, rugged, mossy aromas are less masculine or even equally masculine as the modern sweet gourmands or lipsticky iris 'office' scents. Of course they're more masculine/less feminine, this doesn't need teasing out; dry buttery sandalwoods, mosses, resins etc are not as feminine as iris/violet.

>I don't think I'll be turned away by any "old" smell.
Definitely. And don't think of it as "old". It's not like you'll smell like an old man any more than wearing a tuxedo makes you look like James Bond.
It's like how you can enjoy music from today, the 80s, the 60s, or the 1800s. It's all a product of its time, but it was fresh and new when it came out.

One thing that's interesting, though, about older fragrances: they were formulated in an era when everyone smoked cigarettes. They were designed to work in an era when the air smelled different.

I see that you mostly like aquatic-citrusy frags, but I'm still gonna make some differnent suggestions:
Dunhill Icon or Ajmal Kuro.
Icon is a citrus-neroli frag with a green-woody twist added to it. Ajmal Kuro is just Sauvage, but at a lower price.
Finally there'd also be Versace Blue Jeans, which (in my opinion) is a great performer for its price, but you should test the others first (including the other suggestions you got).

CW Intense is pretty good for what it is, although it's more of a crowdpleaser-type fragrance. I'm getting insane performance out of it, it surprises me every time. It made my rotation simply because it has the performance to get in.

Blue Jeans has a bit of that cola vibe especially at the start, but it loses some of it over time. That's why I said to sample it after all the other ones, because I don't feel like this is a safe rec.

The coconut in CWI is kinda weak (in my opinion). "Amber" is impossible to describe because it is just a note fitted to whatever combination of aromachemicals they use. Mostly revolving around ambroxan or similar "amber" smelling molecules. It's what's currently found in a lot of perfumery as the base and in combination with some sweetness or showergel freshness, which creates the "crowdpleaser" quality. Hard to hate because it's a clean smell and everybody likes cleanliness. Some people just prefer something more exciting, which is why they'd hate a frag with those "crowdpleaser" qualities.

Last but not least, Jeanne en Provence Neroli Intense smells like 4711, so if you like that, certainly test it. If you absolutely hate 4711, maybe dodge Dunhill Icon as well, it has some similarities.

How about light blue forever? I'm on the fence with that photorealistic grapefruit, but people seem to love it, and it behaves well in high temperatures. Hermes Eau Givree has the same main note too. Not particularly masculine though. My go to for hot days is Terre Eau Tres Fraiche - wonderful, but it's getting hard to find.

>>17080996
Sorry to hear that, I asked a girl working in Douglas once what does she think of BdJ, and she said it seems like a something an old guy would wear. I like it, but I kind of agree, that vintage fougere style rarely works these days, and can come off as aspirational especially on younger guys. That being said the average persons taste in fragrance these days is embarrassing.

Italian Love and Forever seem to be twins so based on that I was really surprised how realistic that grapefruit is but to me there was little else besides the grapefruit which is not enough for me.
Not a bad scent but a little one dimensional to me, prefer tue classic intense.

Also, mixing Allure Extreme and light blue intense on paper stripes elevates the overall scent.

Maybe I can find Hermes or the other one at the airport, if not I just settle with whatever.

Damn i finally got around to trying the new MAB encelade. Sadly its a miss for me. My thoughts:

Encelade: opens with a dark vetiver like encre noire and sweet rhubarb. The vetiver shifts into the sterile accord that ganymede is known for but continues to have the rhubarb undertone strongly clashing with it. I feel like QB tried to take the comments that ganymede was "sexless" and tried to make it sexy. Overall its a miss for me. Very linear and not my style. So far the only MAB release i like is b683 extrait. BI remains my top QB frag.

this is surprisingly similiar to amouage gold, in an "appealing ballsweat" kinda way. this just is more sticky and sweet

3rd CDG i've sampled, and the conclusion is that CDG is not for me
the bottle designs are among my favorites in the game, but nothing about these is worth acquiring for any more then 30ml or worth the price

if you are <1 year into frags it might be an enjoyable frag for a month, if you have any niche background just save your money - you can tell it's designer-tier

And if you have been smelling nich for longer than 6 moths you will realize designer is better half the time

I can't really share this experience, can you name your favourite designer frags? I specifically do not enjoy designer fragrances because they smell cheap. there are good designer frags fore sure -- CK euphoria amber gold, Armani eau de cedar and of course old fougeres come to mind, but I would never pick any of these fragrances over an equivalent niche frag

Antaeus, cool water, yatagan, this barbershop from a defunct italian brand, half of guerlain's catalog, chanel #5. Sure there is some damn good niche out there too but don't just write off designer. Of course there is plenty of cheap smelling nearly release dsigner slop too.

chanel antaeus, guerlain shalimar, dior homme parfum... there are lots of stunning designer masterpieces out there and lots of mediocre niche frags. don't fall for the trap of thinking expensive = good, you don't always get what you pay for in the frag world

I agree all of those are very wearable and great fragrances and not cheap smelling at all, all I'm saying is that the Dreamer isn't worth the fotm-attention it is getting right now imo, since a lot of people seem to buy into these trends

>> No.17081929

>>17081923
I guess I should have formulated my message in a different way: what I'm trying to say is not to blindly buy into this hype, since dreamer is very cheap smelling - better put that money into sampling some niches or get some of the better designer frags mentioned

I guess it is very unique in a sense, that I'll agree, but I just can't get over the synthetic smell

Haven't tried the dreamer, i have L'Homme which is supposedly an earlier take on what later became the dreamer, it's pretty nice but nothing amazing. I imagine the dreamer doesn't smell expensive, but i can also get 100ml bottles for $20 on ebay. It sounds like it probably isn't worth the prices our euro posters are shelling out for it and i agree that the fotm meme frags in this thread are usually nothing special.

Those are the current ones and somone kept recommending drakkar noir. I know there were a few last year but i can't even remember what they were, some 80s frag and Eros, maybe a couple others

Bogart frags, BI at least - unironically I found BI very nice and decently priced, but the shilling was pretty extreme

Oh yeah bogart signature, i almost fell for that one. Then people were jokingly (i hope) memeing one man show gold and oud edition.

I like BI and even bought a backup bottle, and even I thought the shilling was over the top lmao. I miss the autistic arguments between BI shill and anti BI shill.

30 bucks for 100 ml with shipping is still a steal, costs the same as Clown Water, it's very cheap. and It's Versace after all.
