The scents I have are Le Male by JPG, Encre Noir, The Most Wanted by Azzaro (free sample gift), Terre d'Hermés, Eau Sauvage, Nautica Voyage, Antaeus and La Nuit de l'Homme.

What would go best with a night of Dionysian savagery with my closest friends, followed by a (possibly hungover) Sunday lunch with a hot girl I'm seeing?

(Also if you have the perfect scent for this feel but I don't have it, feel free to contribute)

>> No.17056743

>What's your favorite Tom Ford scent?
probably Black Orchid or Grey Vetiver
Beau de Jour is also good, though a bit of a rip-off of Davidoff Zino, which is also much cheaper
Ombre Leather and Tuscan Leather are worth trying and Tobacco Vanille is very nice

honestly I think most Tom Ford scents are really overpriced, especially the private blends. the fact that Neroli Portofino costs like 200$ when a 10$ bottle of Neroli Intense smells basically the same (and they're both inspired by the same 10$ cologne) is ridiculous. and it's inexcusable that some of them perform like shit at that price, Oud Wood for example is really weak nowadays.
So pick wisely I guess and don't be blinded by nice-looking bottles and big pricetags, not all private blends are good

>La Nuit de l'Homme

so that leaves us with the most wanted (which I haven't tried), Le Male and Antaeus
I'd say Le Male if you want something safer and easy to like or Antaeus if you don't give a fuck and want to feel and smell like a gigachad. it just depends on your attitude I guess

it blows my mind that they wouldn't give you free samples. i dont know where you live, but where i live (oakville, ontario) there isnt a store that has cologne/perfume that wouldn't give you a sample. seems like a bad decision to not encourage customers to buy from you, too me.

The chains here, notino, sephora, douglass have stopped giving samples away as the scamdemic struck, as I have already pointed it out, the best way to get samples of more "normie" frags is usually kikebook groups, however it's pretty rare for people to do decants under 5ml which means costs are going to accumulate

But it pales kn comparison to Guerlain habit rouge edc vintage. Guerlain homme boisse is like Terre de Hermes but younger because of the burnt orange being replaced by mint mojito. Guerlain Coriolan is a great summer freshy. One last summer freshy by Guerlain is Guerlain vetiver. Things only get worse. Look at architecture, music, movies, and literature. Funny you say that. Last time I was at the perfume store, I tried (on skin) Guerlain Héritage and Hermès H24, don't ask me why these two in particular, but I simply wanted to try them. Now looking back, I think Héritage is good by itself, and I think H24 is bad by itself. But the difference smelling the one wrist and then the other was simply stunning, holy shit. It was quite literally the perfume version of everything nowadays going to shit, deconstructivism, minimalism, modern art, autotune, you name it. Pic kinda related, probably a physical representation of what would have happened if I had sprayed them both on the same arm.

However, I'm going somewhere hot and humid and I need to smell good for obvious reasons. Also just in general, as a man, I feel that I should have at least 1 cologne that I use for dates and special occasions. The cheap Walmart shit isn't cutting it anymore.

My question is what is a brand of cologne or one particular fragrance or whatever that most people (women especially) would generally find appealing? If a gray-haired businessman with an expensive suit and a nice haircut walked into the elevator with you, I want to smell like that guy.

Please help me. Am I making sense? I'm just going to bite down and go to Sephora or some shit tomorrow and ask the workers there if all else fails.

Gray haired businessman smells like guerlain heritage, guerlain habit rouge, guerlain vetiver, guerlain Coriolan, caron pour homme, or Caron le3. Smell those and go from there. These are the classic masculines. For hot and humid I would go with Guerlain vetiver, guerlain Coriolan or Caron pour homme.

Dior Homme Intense is fine in its current version, although a few people in this thread had performance issues. I didn't have any and my bottle is from September 2021.
Dior Homme is a different fragrance. Dior usually tells you what year the formulation is from and changes the formulation code on the packaging, hence the different years after the name of the perfume.
The current DHI formulation is from 2011, the current DH formultion from 2020.

>>17057293
I hope you mean Jeanne en Provence Neroli Intense, otherwise you're paying 10x the price for the same thing.

Abuse tester bottles. I'm offensive as fuck towards the sales persons by now. Of course I'm not buying stuff after sniffing it for 3 seconds, and I tell them that. I want stuff to last and smell good for a long time, so I will absolutely leave now and come back later, unless the fragrance has vanished or doesn't smell good anymore in 10 minutes.
Of course I never come back.

>>17057387
Damn son, I paid 37€ for the 100 mL bottle. I use price tracking and deal websites with alert functions to get the good discounts. But at least Icon is a great frag, it takes the citrus-neroli freshness and adds a green and spicy layer to it. It lasts a long time on clothes, not that long on skin.

>>17057407
Try Bogue MEM. That one is challenging. Some love it, I hate it. And it doesn't fucking go away.

>>17057546
I'm giving my AdG Profumo another chance. My gym now smells like Eros. Gotta thank L'Oreal for that, their new bottles are so weak that the guy (or guys) wearing it no longer fill the whole room. Couldn't wear Profumo due to the association with sweaty gym stank, and since I already hate Eros, it doesn't matter to me.
My bottle is also one of the new ones, zero performance or projection.

Bleu de Chanel Eau de Parfum.
It's still the safest and most versatile fragrance in the world, offensive to noone, masculine, fresh, clean, boring, played out. It's what a businessman wears who just wants to smell good, not outstanding, not unique. It's just a pleasant fragrance and if someone was to only buy a single bottle of any frag without prior knowledge, it's the only frag I'd recommend. It immediately becomes obsolete as soon as someone wants to buy more than a single bottle and will quickly be replaced by more specific fragrances, which match someones personal taste better.

>>17058679
Stay away from the current Profumo. Too weak for what it is. L'Oreal royally fucked it to death.
Skip Sauvage, the synthetic pepper and ambroxan note is not great and perfectly replicated by the clone Ajmal Kuro. Try to get a sample of Sauvage Elixir - it's way more polarizing and less safe than Sauvage, but in my opinion way better.

>I want the eau de guerlain. I had a sample but can’t find it discounted anywhere. Did you try and if the other eaux de colognes for comparison? I’m tempted to buy Guerlain imperiale of du coq blind.
I've tried some of the other eaux, not all of them. There's quite a few.

It's a sort of tradition at Guerlain that each perfumer also submits their take on the classic cologne formula from the 18th century. Eau de Guerlain is Jean-Paul Guerlain's take from the late 60's early 70's, so it's got more of a green-aromatic thing going. If you like Eau Sauvage, EdG will be your favorite.

Compare that to Thierry Wasser's Cologne du Parfumeur which is modern so it's much cleaner, less citrusy, more floral; or Aime Guerlain's Cologne du Coq, which is spicier and a little funkier (CdQ and Jicky are closely related.)

It's like one of those things where if you want to see how good your chef really is, have them make you a basic, three-egg omelet.

Personally, I'd choose Le Male. A male fragrance classic, which smells modern despite its age. It's the Sauvage of its time and a lot less overused today.
Boss Bottled is office-safe and fades rather quickly, therefore it might not satisfy your performance desires.
Eros can work if you lack any individuality and just jump on the current trends, or if you think you're too young for Le Male - not that it smells old, but Eros smells young.

Want to share more about Guerlain.
Heritage and Jicky share a similar lavender note. Heritage and l’instant homme share a similar sandalwood note. vetiver extreme is the “young” version of vetiver without the tobacco note and with an incense note. Habit rouge is best in its edc form and is very interesting and of high quality. Habit rouge leau is the “young” version of habit rouge. It loses its leather and civet notes and keeps it clean throughout. Additionally, the rose is replaced with jasmine. Shalimar and habit rouge share the vanilla tonka dry down. Jicky, shalimar, and mitsouko are feminine fragrances by design but are passing as masculine. Shalimar extrait is very nice, the only problem is that a lot of people know it is a feminine fragrance. Mitsouko and derby share the oakmoss dry down. Coriolan is discontinued but is still readily available and is a great fresh fragrance with oakmoss.

And you're just looking at his male fragrances. What he made for women is gorgeous: Samsara, Nahema, Chamade, Champs Elysees.
Sure, some of them are a little out-of-fashion now. Nahema smells very dated, for example, but in terms of those mid-late 20th century 50-note compositions that smell like everything all at once and nothing else, he was the GOAT.

No, it's legitimately good.
That metallic opening can be a little unpleasant but it lasts like a minute.
Other than that, though, it's a clean, woody, masculine, shower-gel scent. There's a reason it's popular. Wearing it you smell clean but don't smell like flowers. It lasts a while, but paradoxically it's got a lot of leeway in terms of overspraying.

If you're the kind of guy who wants a fragrance but doesn't want a million bottles, just something to reach for on date night or whatever, that's what you get.

Checked. The edp is very nice, though it’s my least favorite between edc, edt, and edp. The edp had a lot of civet and might smell a little like moth balls. But it does have a lot of depth. The opening is similar to heritage with its lavender and its dry down is similar to habit rouge with the civet, vanilla, tonka. It also has rosemary herbal notes. Caron pour homme vintage also shares some similarities. I like Jicky, my wife likes Jicky. It’s a nice fragrance. Hope you’ll like it too.
