Just found out we've got a busy year at work so I can afford to get a new bottle.
I'm going to get Lacoste Blanc as a cheapie for when i'm on shift and (will sample first) likely either pick up Joob XVV or Ombre Leather for my cold weather/ leather jacket scent
Are these solid picks or should I reach out to some other stuff like Frederic Malle and Imaginary Authors?

Both are solid clean scents. Eau Sauvage has a bit more personality but if you're a younger guy L'Homme might work better for you. Nah its a Russian classic my gramps used to wear, Shipr Nouvelle. Mefisto is probably my favourite from Xerjoff. For day to day it's the perfect scent, has something upscale about it but it's still clean and likable. It has a certain warmness to it that makes it fairly wearable even in slightly colder weather so it's my go to.

Testing pic related right now. It's a really unique marine fragrance. The way they used pink pepper, incense and opoponax to create this sharp, almost acidic opening is brilliant. I reckon all of the complaints about it being a stinker are because of pink pepper that is one of the funkiest spices I know. However, here it is balanced rather nicely. Definitely one of the most interesting Zootopians. Way more wearable than their hardcore stuff like T-Rex, Moth or Hyrax, too.

Btw it doesn't smell anything like Acqua di Sale. Fragrantians vote for any 2 fragrances that even vaguely share the genre as "reminding them of". Both are marine frags but that's where similarities end. Squid has a very strong, warm ambery feel about it (as in amber not ambergris) that, probably due to presence of benzoin, leans towards sweeter not animalic ambers like the one in Ambra Aurea. Overall, after the first 15 minutes I don't think it does a very good job at recreating natural salty, animalic ambergris synthetically. It just feels flat when compared to rich, complex ambers like the one in AA or Amber Star that can transform every hour to something entirely different. It's more similar to Acqua di Parma Colonia Ambra. That's not a bad thing though, as I really like Squid for what it is not what it was supposed to achieve in minds of some people.
Acqua di Sale smells more refreshing and dark at the same time. Squid feels like a warm, oriental aquatic if it makes sense. I've lived almost my entire life at the seaside city at cold for the most part of a year Baltic Sea. It's nothing like the pretty, sunny beaches in the Mediterranean. It's dark, salty, iodinic and full of algae and driftwood. That's what Acqua di Sale encapsulates for me. >>16011643
>>16011647
I know all of these but Victrix and Volo (but coincidentally have decant of the latter on the way to me).

>Dulcis in Fundo
opulent vanilla
>Fumidus

Need some application advice.

I wear fragrances every day, and I noticed no one ever comments on it - not in a 'DAMN ANON you smell GREAT LET'S HURRY UP AND FUCK' kind of way, but just 0 acknowledgement. Even during times I decided to test where the limits of 'bearable' were, I never even got a 'fuck off dude you smell terrible'.

So I asked my friends, and they all agreed they didn't even notice I was wearing anything until they got right up to my personal space, and actively looked for it - this was with 5+ sprays too.

Am I doing it wrong? I do the Jeremy way since it seemed the most logical - say what you will, but he has more experience than I do with wearing fragrances.

note: I'm not looking for panty dropping legs flying effects, but I would like it if the effect of my fragrances were there.

It's not extremely sweet. More of a zesty, tangy lemon scent than vanilla one. Vanilla is there but more in a supporting role than a main character. It also doesn't linger for a long time and the drydown is mostly earthy vetiver with some citric undertones. Snice stuff but I think it's more of a cold weather scent.

Ok, I gave Emir a try. It's a sweet geranium+oud bomb. This smells as if some Arabs tried to reinterpret Nicolai's Patchouli intense in their bazaar-esque way. I expected it to be aromatic because of sage but it's just thickly sweet. Geranium is such a nice note but focusing on highlighting its sweet aspects is really unimaginative as it is already sweet by nature. Even citruses are sweet because they used my most hated citrus note - grapefruit. Oud here is obviously synthetic but I didn't expect anything else, so that's not a disappoitment. Overall it's 100% not my cup of tea but if you enjoy the popular these days sweet-oriental Arab DNA then it's not bad if you can still snap it for -60% on their website. Tried H24 today at the local store. Did not expect much, but it's more interesting than I thought. it is green, fresh and clean, but it has neither shower gel vibes nor classic green after shave elements. It's just a very subtle smell, although it projects fine. Most interestingly I get wafts of it that have a savory quality, kinda like freshly baked bread. I think it's more of a spring/autumn scent than a summer one, probably even winter. It does smell pretty futuristic all together. Also the flacon looks like cheap trash, way worse than it looks in pictures.

Again me. Overall 2021 so far was a year when I tried plenty of ultra-niche, rare and simply stupidly expensive stuff. Among other things: Areej le Dore, Bortnikoff, Anna Zworykina and now Slumberhouse. Taking everything into account, it was quite disappointing experience. I'm glad that I have been holding back with testing these for years until now because if I didn't smell shitload of other niche frags before then I'd be most likely hooked with them. Now I can say though that there are most definitely cheaper, wider-available but as good quality and as interesting houses out there. Areej is not as talented perfumer as people want to portray him. Bortnikoff surely uses great quality ingredients, but you can find as good ingredients in other niche houses. Norne is not the coniferous-dark holy grail scent I expected it to be reading all the hype online over the years, and I actually already had known other, better suited for me scents like that. Out of this lot only Zworykina left me in awe with some of her stuff but her consistent pricing across all of her perfumes is stupid and even for most expensive natural ingredients I think that asking £110 for a 15ml bottle is a bit of a stretch. It only made me realize the limitations of natural perfumery and what a truly god gifted invention are synthetics. Namely, with her stuff someone could probably argue that she has a strong DNA but to me the truth most likely seems to be that there are simply not that many all-natural bases that smell good and make scents project and last. About 70% of her perfumes converge to the same two types of drydowns as time passes and don't project well after the initial 30-60 minutes when most of these natural ingredients evaporate. Her best stuff is absolutely the best, but nearly half are misses for me, too.

Sometimes I feel like keeping 2, max 3 bottles, selling everything else and just forgetting about all that I learned. Moreover, these would most likely not be the most expensive things I've tried/bought. The simple things like the tangy, optimistic resinous elemi in Eau Sauvage Parfum or the peppery blast of bergamot in New York Intense that always make me feel a meter taller are what never fail to make me happy, not most expensive ingredients or overly complex compositions. Anyways, thanks for reading my blog

I’ve been to a couple of the brothels in Nevada (Sheri’s and the Chicken Ranch). I do not recommend. Service is mediocre, most of the girls are pretty trashy if we’re being honest, and they charge absolutely insane rates. I had one girl try to sell me on 3 grand for one hour of half massage, half sex. Actually had to pick a different girl because she refused to go any lower. I also see window girls in Amsterdam a lot, which is fun, but can be a bit hit or miss because a lot of the girls there are just there to rip off tourists and will give you shit service and upsell the fuck out of you.

Mostly I do outcalls nowadays, though. I live in a city that has a really good escort scene now and I own a very nice condo to host at, so it just works. It’s pretty comfy having a lady come over, have a couple drinks, then fuck like rabbits, then she leaves and I can just lie in bed and enjoy the afterglow or just fall asleep if I want. Makes for a very relaxing evening.

Stepping it up another notch with Shoyeido Tenpyo ("Peaceful Sky"). This is the highest-end stick from Shoyeido's mid-tier Horin line. I have it as part of a Horin sampler pack. When I first got the sampler a couple months ago I found the Tenpyo to be kind of off-putting, but coming back to it after having burned a shit-ton of other aloeswood blends, I feel like I understand it better and it's hitting real nice. Like powdery leather and aged wood that's both sweet and sour. A pack of 20 short sticks of this stuff that burn for about 20 minutes each costs about $40 on Amazon. A month ago I would have thought it was a rip-off, but now I'm thinking about puling the trigger. There's a lot of other stuff I need to get my hands on first tho

If you’re on a budget and want something to throw on, it’s perfectly fine, but enormously synthetic. I know using “synthetic” as a criticism isn’t exactly fair or even useful a lot of the time, but I really think in the case of something like this it’s reasonable. It doesn’t smell like apple, it smells like how somebody thinks apples smells, but they’re not completely sure. It’s a pleasant smell, but you are absolutely getting what you pay for. The fact I got it for £8 means I don’t care at all and I still wear it, but it’s often a “going to the shops and don’t want to think about it” scent.

I adore it. I bought it to stop me buying Neroli Portofino. It’s not as nice as NP, but considering I paid twenty times less for it than I might have NP, NP isn’t twenty times nicer. Longevity is modest, projection too. It’s crisp, clean, a nice roundness too it. “Bright” is definitely a fair description. For the price (if you can find it) it’s a steal. It does lean somewhat feminine if it bothers you, but only a little. A very good cheap white floral.

Thanks bro. I really think that you got a great and varied collection there. I used to own many of these myself (I think I was the first person to bring Bright Neroli here a few years ago). When it comes to sampling then I just like to discover new smells. From a purely moneyoriented perspective the ratio I blown out on samples versus bottles is ridiculous and these are probably $1000s by now. You just simply must like the journey instead of looking for any particular goal for it to make sense. I discovered most of my favourite things like ESP or NYI very early on and still love them as much. Its really rare to be completely content with all stuff one has so good job.

Sure. For Japanese incense (generally more subtle and complex than Indian-style, and the incense is the stick itself rather than being powder/resin on a bamboo stick) I would recommend you buy these three to start:
1. Nippon Kodo Kayuragi Sandalwood - A lot of Nippon Kodo's stuff is overly synthetic trash, but the sandalwood stick from their Kayuragi line is a really gorgeous, accessible fragrance, plus it comes with a nice little ceramic burning tile that can be used to hold any standard-sized Japanese stick.
2. Shoyeido Moss Garden - Shoyeido uses no synthetic ingredients and has a very wide variety of scents that range from its ultra-affordable daily line to its ultra-expensive premium stuff. Moss Garden is probably the most widely beloved of the Shoyeido dailies and is a sandalwood-based stick with patchouli, benzoin, and other spices. White Cloud and Kyoto Autumn Leaves are my other favorite Shoyeido dailies.
3. Baieido Tokusen Kobunboku - Baieido's stuff is more complex and less immediate than the other two brands I listed. They're about the wood more than anything else. I didn't love this sandalwood/aloeswood blend at first, but every time I burn a stick I notice something new about it, in a way that's almost psychedelic. Smells kind of like an old bookcase full of leather volumes, but there's a lot more to it than that.
You should familiarize yourself with low-end sandalwood-based sticks before working your way up to the pricier aloeswood-based stuff. The only way to properly appreciate the higher-end stuff is to familiarize yourself with a wide variety of blends, styles, and ingredients by burning a lot of it over a long period of time. Otherwise you'll just be throwing your money away. I only started getting into incense about 7 months ago, so I'm relatively new to it myself, but as you can probably tell I'm pretty obsessed and have already dropped several hundred dollars on the stuff. Hope this helps, and let me know if you have any questions

The other side of my incense obsession has been Fred Soll's Resin on a Stick. They're made by this guy from New Mexico, and the resin he uses is based on sap from the piñon pine trees local to the region. They are extremely powerful and long-burning (up to two hours per stick). You can order single-stick samples for around $2 apiece either from fredsoll.com or Amazon. I'd recommend getting a bunch of different samples so you can see what you like before committing to a full pack of 10 or 20 sticks, which range from $10 to $20. Because they're so strong, you can usually burn like an inch or two of a stick to get what you need and then put it out and save the rest for later. He makes over 20 different types, but my top 5, roughly ranked, are:
1. Desert Patchouli - The best of the best, and I wasn't even a huge fan of patchouli before I burned this. Sexy, gritty, earthy, primal, sweet but not cloying. Life-changing. I burn this every day.
2. Magic Copal - magic; copal
3. Taos Pine - PINE, all-caps, you're in the middle of the forest with this one
4. Ceremonial Rain - cool, wet cedar-ish blend with lovely floral notes
5. Frankincense & Myrrh - 2 types: Ancient blend (sweeter, more refined) and Classic blend (rawer, grittier)

I think that Bianchi's Under My Skin, Lover's Tale and the Dark Side are kind of the same scents, but with different aspects pronounced in each one of them:
Lover's Tale is very heavy on leather, and is the one that intrigues me most, but in my opinion it's best only if you are going outdoors and it's freezing. It's too strong for warm indoor temperatures, and it feels like you have a leather glove shoved up your nose all the time.
Dark Side is very ambery and spicy, and i remember it being very sweet, like sitting in a rocking chair on a christmas evening kind of sweet, nice but it lacks the leather for me
Under my skin is somewhere in the middle between those two. Sweet but not too sweet, the leather makes it more masculine, very cosy, warm scent that makes me want to smell it again and again, which I guess is desirable in a date type environment
I like Musc Ravageur because i like Pour un Homme de Caron, as those two are not that much apart from each other. While the Caron is more clean, sharp and cold type of a scent, the spices and vanilla in Musc Ravageur make it more warm, inviting and intriguing.

I agree about both. I think Under My Skin was the least bold, least “outgoing of all of hers, but at the same time I think that restraint is what some of her fragrances lack.

As for MR, it’s a perfect balance of sweet, warm, with depth but not too heavy. I think you e pinpointed something I was struggling to put my finger on with the Caron. Not that I dislike it, I love it, but it feels like taking a deep breath through your nose on a cold day. A colleague of mine took a picture of a local woodland area with deer on a frosty morning. Just tried a sample of Black Powder by Justbox, this is quite nice. The best way I can describe it is if a designer brand did their take on Interlude.
A smoky, cold, dark, powdery scent upfront but in the base you can feel fruity and sweet acords.

ah yeah, i live in sydney though and i know people that have been to heaps. seems okish here but again, theres a lot of hit and miss places.

It’s just sort of the nature of this stuff. Providers will always be hit or miss, if you go in blind, you’re going to have very mixed experiences. I do my homework and research ladies I’m interested in seeing in advance and as a result, I have very few disappointments. Kind of like frags in that regard; you shouldn’t buy an expensive bottle without sampling and you shouldn’t book and expensive date without reading reviews.

Anyone like Aesop perfumes? I was looking at Hywl. Sampled Marrakech intense before and really like it. The woodiness of their most recent offering, Rozu, is nice but similar to Le Labo's Rose 31.

I personally can shake out the associations I have with it and trust fund girls living their #influencer bullshit lifestyle in NYC. The same thing as with Le Labo and Byredo.

I found it really interesting, a light floral fragrance, with the dirty smell of death underneath. Like the idea we have of heaven of it being pure and colourful and filled with flowers. But the reality that it’s a place full of dead people, and that’s where the dirty, animalic elements come in.

I have limited experience. I think their regular cosmetics are massively overpriced so I was sceptical about their perfumes. I’ve only tried Hwyl once but I have to say it was pretty snice. I can’t really speak to performance and longevity but in terms of scent alone I was impressed.

You have a good point, that's the impression I get from Byredo especially. Haven't been impressed with any of their offerings, and their bottles are some of the blandest designs I've ever seen.

Smells like really nice genuine leather, its got good longevity and projection, comfy and warm for the cold and has a fuck you energy to it. Just overall very nice and masculine. Has something powerful feeling about it. All the reasons you dislike it are probably why others like it. I remember the SMW review Luca wrote and everything he said that he hated about it was to me something I like about the scent.
