Which? The Tissot is quite a bit cheaper and also smaller thickness which I like. Bit worried if 39mm is too big since my wrists are only about 15.5cm circumference. Or say screw it and get a Khaki Field at 38 mm?

I would get the Certina because the Tissot looks fucking stupid. Crown too small. Cheesy bracelet. T-shaped second hand looks bad. At 12mm thick the Certina is still wearable. Its only real flaw is the date window could have been better integrated, but whatever.

Yeah the bracelet is a bit odd, but the watch looks better in motion than on the picture there imo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gOMLeQz2bSI
Idk if the hundred+ extra is worth it (gotta pay import fees on the price too) for the Certina. Not a huge fan of roman numbers but them only being there on the pole positions looks neat enough.

It's not just the bracelet... there are many strange design choices with that watch. It's probably cheap because it looks like shit. I'm a fan of getting value but you're quibbing over $200 vs. $300 which is nothing, and at that range you should be most concerned about the quality of the watch and not a little bit of savings.
Honestly I'd rather just bump my budget up to $500 and get something a little nicer. I think that's when you get into Tissot's Le Loc line

One thing the Citizen PMD56-2952 does really well compared to a lot of other modern pilots watches is having good dimensionality to the printed indices from the thick layer of lume on top of each hour marker.

Compare pic related to the how flat the printing is on the dial of a Sinn 556a or a Damasko DA36 and you'll see what I mean. Really nice feature on this Citizen.

>Since 2017 and the introduction of the 62MAS Re-creation, we’ve become accustomed to a reissue limited edition each and every year. With the exception of the out-of-the-blue King Seiko drop late last year, it’s been a long era of diver re-creations. It seems Seiko has run out of vintage divers (the first-gen 6105 is still out there, so let’s see), so they’ve now moved on to the Alpinist. What we have is a relatively faithful reissue of the first-ever Alpinist model from 1959.
>Settle in a bit here because I have some real thoughts on the 1959 Alpinist Re-creation. There will be 1,959 numbered pieces of this watch and it will retail for €3,000 when it hits stores in August.

>If we are talking about faithful, simply note that Seiko never made an Alpinist with a date during the first era. Second, why oh why does Seiko omit the “Alpinist” text on the dial? EVERYONE wants this and even Seiko calls this watch an Alpinist. Instead, we’re left with the typical “Automatic” script to somehow tie it into all the other Alpinists that are no longer called Alpinists. It’s all puzzling, to say the least.

>> No.15994275

Probably the rarest Omega wristwatch caliber ever made and rarest non-limited-edition Omega reference ever made, the Omega Synchrobeat cal 372 was launched in 1952 with a production run of 1000. According to A Journey Through Time, 17 of those watches were sold, and the rest were recalled by Omega to be destroyed. The Synchrobeat was the first-ever wristwatch with a dead seconds complication - the second hand advances once per second, like a modern quartz watch. This was considered a highly desirable complication in wristwatches at the time to allow for precise time measurement. Of the 17 watches claimed to still exist by AJTT, approximately 12 have surfaced (two of which are bare uncased movements - the 18kt case was presumably melted down at some point). After the failure of the Synchrobeat launch (similar to the failed Rolex tru-beat cal 1040, which launched one year later), it would be 20 years before Omega had another wristwatch that ticked once per second.

Don't buy an open heart of a cheap shitter workhorse movement. The 4R is meant to be hidden away and forgotten about as it ticks on reliably for the next 3 decades, not displayed as if it's art. Same with all the ETA movements but the cheap Seiko shit makes them premium by comparison.

let me elaborate
i picked up an spb149, and i like it it gets a lot of wrist time, but it has it's flaws and the watch i should have gotten was the sla037 (1300 vs 6300 msrp... bit steep)
>although i wish both sat 2mm lower
which makes the bb58 an option here

similarly, the tangente 38 datum i have, which i picked up at a fair price, has flaws as well
>infamous lug to lug measurement, even on 7.25-7.5in wrists, size is fine but it sits in a clunky way
>the minute markers has a larger gap to the case than i'd like, not super noticeable but in enlarging it from the original size to 37.5mm they skewed the proportions
i should have gotten the metro gangreserve 3800 msrp

so i'm at an impasse, do i buy more watches to flesh out my collection, or do i upgrade the watches i have and back off the watch autism

for me it's a matter of personal preference in how i spend my dollars chasing perfection
i believe a lot of watches are perfect in their own way, again the stowa flieger and bb58(although obvious choices), and even the max bill chronoscope
should i spend 10k on ~4-5 watches, or the same amount on 2 that i'll appreciate more individually
like an engineering problem, do i go for variety or endgame

I think the small collection idea is a good one.If your selective about what you buy your only going to get the things you really love.

Earning more money is also probably bad thing in that you can make lots of purchases with relatively little worry about financial repercussions .

I only tend to buy the things that I obsess over and come back to time and time again, which means I don't really own much stuff. The stuff I do own I really love though

What are you actually talking about? The company doesn't have anything to gain from the second hand market value of it's watches. The Prospex alpinist isn't a re-issue, it's just the next generation after the SARB017; An evolution, if you will. Naturally it will differ from the previous generation. Anyone who loves Seiko (or Grand Seiko, for that matter) has never tried to service one.

Seiko doesn't care how much you paid. They will lavish the same care on a Grand Seiko hi-beat GMT as they will a Seiko 5, which is to say, very little. It's the same facility. Strip it, clean it, put it back together, box it, ship it.

If you get it back and the bezel insert is all fucked up, you send them pics and they'll tell you, "It's within spec."

And that, kids, is why you always sell a Grand Seiko instead of servicing it. Seikoweebs won't know the difference anyway since they'll be graduating from a +/- 15 sec./day SKX.

I had a GS SBGH005 serviced. It was a couple years old and it was running a little slow.
So it took it to my Grand Seiko boutique for service.

They say they'll send it to Japan. It will take about 8 weeks.

Two, then three months go by..."Uh...where's my watch."
"Let me check and I'll get back to you."

(I don't want anyone to think that the guys and girls at the GS boutique were anything less than total professionals here, by the way.)

After four months, I get my watch back. There's a hair under the crystal, the crown feels really rough and it's now 15 seconds fast per day.

I go back and ask what the fuck. They make some calls and apparently, all of this is "to spec."
The people at the GS boutique were so humiliated they actually PAID to send the watch to an indy watchsmith to unfuck what the factory did.

Soon as I got my watch back, I sold it.

Not him, but in my small country we have one official Seiko service, and they suck. The guy at the service said he can't change the crystal for a custom one and that i'd have to order the original (35-45€), which would mean waiting for a few months for it to arrive. So i took it to the watchguy in my city and he said 'sure, i can do it no problem, i can even make it sit flush with the case!' (which i prefer as the original sticks out cca 3mm for some unknown reason) and i paid less for the crystal and work than the price of the original. I'm selling the watch anyway because it's a bit too big and heavy for me. I never went to the official service again after that, since my watchguy is more than capable of doing everything they do cheaper. He also serviced my '64 Weekdater later on and had no problems with it, he managed to get it to -10s per day so i really don't see a reason why i would use them ever again.

My collecting interest is in high-precision watches (of their respective time periods) and novel timekeeping mechanisms (not so much non-timekeeping complications like calendars, chronographs, repeaters, etc). Anything that helps tell that story has a place in my collection.

I maintain a tier list for my collection. My S+ tier currently consists of the GP Observatory Chronometer, the Omega Synchrobeat, the Citizen 0100, and the Citizen 8650. The fifth watch would be my great-grandmother's watch.

A grail is a watch that is almost mystical, that a full-on quest, and astounding amounts of luck, would be required to obtain. For me, it is the Omega watch with serial 39050076, the first to achieve straight zero rates across fifteen days of chronometer testing, as seen here

Hello Jody...
There is a brand called hmt, an old indian brand now abandoned.
Once they had produced lots of good mechanical watches. I want you to cover one of any....
You can find them on ebay...
The hmtindia website don't ship outside of the country....

I really feel you would have a great feeling to use one, the most important thing is those are very economy friendly watches

What made you get into watches, and more specifically high precision watches?

I got into watches specifically after chancing upon a book on movement design. I started wearing some basic modern eta stuff, but quickly moved to vintage. The chronometer trials were a big interest of mine, and that lead quickly to other interests in precision. When I thought about what made something a good watch, for me it always came down to telling the time as precisely as possible given the tools available at the time. There's also quite a bit of good documentation and sources available, if one is willing to look, on the topic, which made it easier to get further into it. I also inveated in significant amounts of time measuring equipment for my home watch lab.

I wouldn't say a lot of watches *impress* me, specifically. I suppose I could mention my Zodiac SST, a 36k bph watch from c. 1970. The 36k movements from the period were no joke; a simple service got these results out of the watch, half a century after it was made.

It might be something like a bulova thermatron, seiko 8t23, seiko 5s21, citizen 7803a. Most of my watches arent particularly quirky.

I do not. Talking just about production models I will say that in the 40s it was probably rolex kew a chronometers, in the 50s omega merit chronometers, in the 60s the accutron and 36k observatory chronometers, in the 70s high-frequency quartz watches from citizen, and those same citizens held the crown from the 70s until the citizen 0100 came out two years ago.

So I have my first watch on the way to me with a metal bracelet. I think the bracelet might not fit, should I buy tools or something to adjust it? If so what?

This looks good but do I really need everything in it? https://www.amazon.de/Eventronic-Uhrenwerkzeug-Reparatur-Uhrmacherwerkzeug-Nylontasche/dp/B071P7B672/

Does the bracelet come with push pins or screw in links? You would only need a pic related if it's push pins, paired maybe with a pair of small pliers. If they are screw pins, a 1.2mm screwdriver would be enough.

>> No.15996188

>>15996174
You can probably take it to your local mall and pay someone $5 to resize it for you. The tool you use is pretty cheap if you want to buy it though, it just has a small flathead screwdrive on one end and a pointy end like a scribe on the other, you can use the flathead to depress the spring bars and take the bracelet off or use it for unscrewing the the screw in the links, and the pointy scribe part is for pushing out the pins that hold the links together. Nearly ever watch will have the pin or the screws system for the links, unless it is a certain few seiko models, which use a collar as well as a pin, but you use the same tool for them as well

Might be worthwhile getting the tool if you plan on keeping watch as a hobby

You don't necessarily need anything besides the tool, like don't need anything to hold the watch while you do it, I have done it in the pass with the tool holding it in my hands with a towel down to avoid scratches and a pair of pliers

Have a look on YouTube and see how people do it, and get whatever tools you personally deem necessarily, I have done it with a paper clip and needles nose pliers, but get whatever you feel comfortable using. The bracelet typically has a little arrow pointing what direction the pins need to be pushed out

Take a look at these links:

https://www.uhrenarmband-versand.de/Uhrenbandversand-p38609h596s4171-Stiftaustreiber-Luca.html

As others have said you don't need anything else but the tool. It is a bit easier to remove links while the bracelet is removed but it is easier to try the size after adjusting it while the bracelet is still attached. I would also recommend buying a "name-brand" tool rather than some chink shit from amazon.

Feeling a bit overwhelmed with all the strap options and stuff. Do I want leather, velour, nato, perlon, something else? What colors or brands (am in EU/GER). For everyday wear, that is. I read the pastebin but it's so much to take in. Would like to stay under 30 for a single band, 40 at most if it's really good.

I liked the look of the Eulit perlons but they don't have 19mm options unfortunately. Taking recommendations.

Very very nice, I love the Daydate! Always wanted one, after I get a Reverso and Sub that will be my next watch or a daytona.

The moonphase speedy aways worried me being 44mm and she thick! But look nice next to the OG speedy. Probably has the best moon on the market.

Seamasters a good beater for you like myself and the OG speedy doesn't see much time on my wrist as well, I baby it a bit. Love the design so much first grial, lusted after it for years broke so it's special to me.

You picked the right dial for the OP, amazing collection. If your on 400k a year, it's a very humble collection or like me your non watch like is expensive. Daddy's play money.
