waxed flesh is just a waxed rough side of the leather, there is no polishing to be done. All you need is a wax based conditioner like venetian shoe cream. If you let the wax deplete you will notice a more suede texture start to form. Seems like 6 month of hard wear will age them significantly. You probably have to wax or reapply cream every month if you are doing some heavy wear.

i just got some surplus boots in, and they cleaned up nice and fit well and shit, but there's not a removable insole. or if there was an insole, it's not there anymore.

I got these as well but im running into two problems 1: the foot bed itself is like concrete

and 2: the backstrap/heel area whatever you wanna call it is very rough and stiff on the inside meaning that ANY friction no matter how slight produces a blister in no time. Been a grueling wear in process I'm not sure why theyre thought of as being so comfy. A smoother leather lining would help a lot.

I've got the Austrian meme boots, I consider them to be pretty high on me and I'm 6'4", the higher cut ones do tend to lose a casual vibe when you wear them and have less height to dwarf their impact on your overall fit.

If you have the time and you're willing you should clean them first. Spray them off, let them dry, brush off dirt, hit them with some cleaner, let them dry again, then apply conditioner until they don't look dry.

I put in an insole right away. But the break in is rough in the heel for sure. I’ve got about 30 miles on them and they’re just now breaking in and I’ve had some pretty bad blisters. But that’s the way old school boots tend to be, once they’re broken in they’re molded for your foot shape and they’re bomb proof. I’ve read from guys who have had the same pair for over a decade with nearly daily wear

Nah the originals were Cebo or Zuch branded, milsurp boots exported in the early '60s.
Grafters didn't import monkey boots until 1969, and by then it was a cheaper, flimsier boot made specifically for export. Probably also from a different factory, even the last shape was different.

This is really my first pair of real boots. With a thicker pair of socks they're certainly too small, but it's close with a regular pair. I've read that the leather in the toe won't stretch very much, but the heel cup will form to your foot more, which would solve my blister problem. I've already worn the larger ones outside for a couple miles, and my heels are pretty sore. Stridewise says that's normal for breaking in boots.
