Even if the specs listed are half of what they say it is it'd be still a great deal. But it isnt, that's the sole selling point of such chinese watches.

Most watches(99.9%) are made in china or asia. You can basically ignore "made in..." text, its all legalese loophole fuckery

if you dont care about specs or mechanicals and want to see "swiss made" on the dial and still within a budget you can get a Movado. Its technically a fashion watch but it gets a pass (mostly)

Can report that it's probably the best bang-for-buck I've seen. It's nothing to write home about but it's outstanding value given the specs. Good budget workhorse NH35 movement, nice brushed finish on the case, retro style crown, naked flieger dial, decent lume. Only thing that outright sucks on it is the strap and at 20mm there's no shortage of replacements out there.

Sup /wt/, I wandered into a local jewelry shop today that has Omegas and saw this baby that I didn't even know about: the Speedmaster racing in 40mm. I love the size (t. wristlet) and the texture on the dial (not just the pattern on the subdials, the whole face is brushed slightly), and to me the sapphire crystal and automatic movement are a plus (sorry hesalite manual wind fags) but it's only on the rubber strap, and a quick search shows that these guys don't hold their value well. What do you guys think? I like it as a left field, unique take on the classic speedy, and I could throw it on a leather strap for a poor man's FOIS, but I'm not sure if I'd be overpaying. I get where you are coming from but using Swiss or Japanese movements is the best thing the Chinks have going for them. I'd be scared of an in-house Chink movement. There were basically trash from 1990 until 2010, roughly, but in the last 10 years the Swatch Group has made a real effort to unfuck the brand. Omega's external finishing is at least reasonable for the money now, and their 8500 series co-axial movements seem to be far less prone to eating themselves than the older 2500 series were.

>>15986435
I'm probably the longest running external finishing autist in these threads and I used to regularly shit on Omega for having literally Tissot-tier external finishing, but Omega really has taken big steps forward in the last 10 years so I don't shit talk them about it anymore.

The bathyscaphe 38 is a really ugly watch, i understand the call of a wristlet compatible 50 fathoms but the bathyscaphe sucks.
The indices are too small, the hands are too narrow these two factors combined leads to a very empty feeling dial. The 4:30 date window kind of sucks. Really it's the tiny indices that suck, they are half shiny metal instead of lume and it just feels unbalanced and they just look comically small, it reminds me of one of those tiny face on a big head memes.
Don't they make a 40mm fifty fathoms? That would be a much better choice.

I really enjoyed the seamaster. But at the end of the day, even with 7+ inch wrists I still prefer the more classic sizing. I used to have a ceramic sub but it just felt like such an attention seeking watch. Overall I believe this is far more elegant and comfortable on the wrist compared to the seamaster. Although I still like the Omega, one fag in these threads always says that it looks like "a kids drawing of a watch" and I cant help but feel thats a fair assessment of the design. The explorer design is timeless and I prefer this 36mm version to the 39 which has fucky porportions with a 20 mm bracelet.Honestly cant go wrong with either. I think that this explorer makes a better one watch collection too.

Is pic related a good explorer alternative? I went into an AD today expecting to pull the trigger on a Tudor Black Bay 36, but I was shocked by how small the bezel makes it look, even on my wrist which is 6.5 inches tops. The BB41 is too big though, and the only thing I could think of in between is the modern Explorer which naturally they don't have, so I looked around for similarly sized pieces and found the Longines Conquest. Funnily enough, every sub-40mm watch I've ever worn has had no bezel so I'm having a hard time judging the size, and my AD doesn't carry Longines but there are some great prices for it online. Does it wear big, and if so is there some alternative from say Seiko or Hamilton that could wow me in the ~$1000 price range?

>Floyd Mayweather isn’t a man who wonders where his next meal is coming from. In fact, he’s one of the highest paid athletes of all time. With an undefeated boxing record of 50-0 and some of the biggest pay-per-view fight numbers of all time, he isn’t afraid to show off his wealth, especially when it comes to watches. But it turns out that he’s keen to continue the family tradition, too, after buying his five-week-old grandson his first watch. And what was it? A gold Rolex, of course.
>What do we mean when we say Floyd Mayweather likes to show off his watch collection? Just head to his Instagram and have a look. He recently picked up a Richard Mille RM-11 that had been completely covered in aftermarket baguette diamonds and is also well known for his Jacob & Co. Billionaire watch that comes with a price tag of $18,000,000.
>So with that sort of track record, it comes as no surprise that Floyd would think a new heir to the Mayweather fortune needs a watch on his wrist – and quickly. Despite being barely a month old, Mayweather’s grandson Kentrell is now the proud new owner of a Rolex Datejust that has been peppered with aftermarket diamonds as well. It’s quite a start to a budding watch collection. If Kentrell continues to acquire watches with this momentum, expect him to have nabbed his first grail by his fourth birthday at the latest.

The guy at the boutique was very dismissive of me when I asked about the Overseas, because he assumed I wanted the blue dial.
He turned around as soon as he found out I was actually after the black dial.

I'm guessing the blue dial waiting list is so long at this point that they pretty much don't bother too much anymore.

>The waiting is part of the charm
You do realize that there is no actual "waiting list" for the popular models right? They dont sell these watches in a chronological order. They might write your name down for a Daytona or GMT Master to be polite, but you will never get the call. The second one gets delivered to the AD it gets sold to one of the whale customers. You could be on the waiting list for a Hulk for 50 years and you wouldnt get one unless you spend fat stacks at your AD for unpopular models that dont sell.

Chinks are trying their absolute hardest to shit out cheap luxury watches with tourbillons etc. but they simply cannot replicate actual HH finishing because it takes so much traditional craftsmanship and skill.

It's the same thing as buying a Lexus instead of a BMW/Audi. Sure it may do some things better but it will just feel like a cope. Nobody dreams about having a japanese watch.

>> No.15988393

>>15988384
Yes and one day they will succeed. Nobody will want them though. That is my point: it's as much about the brand and the price as it is the watch (the watch is still important)

>Yes and one day they will succeed.
Maybe.
But if they end up being cheaper, it'll be because labor is cheaper.
Not because HH watches have such an insane margin.

It takes many dozens of collective man hours from highly trained watchmakers to create a true HH watch.
If it were possible for less than $15-20k, someone would've done it long ago.

>That's a strange way of putting it, since the dial face on a $5k GS is miles better finished than even $100k+ Swiss watches.
I’m so tired of these GS dickriders. They are so removed from reality at this point it would be comical if they weren’t spamming 150 posts per thread.

JLC MUT moon and nothing else even comes close.

And some people will say this doesnt matter but movement finishing matters. Non of it really matters. Indulge yourself once in while but dont drink the marketing koolaid ffs

I think the dial finishing, which you look at 90% of the time, is more important than movement finishing which you will look at 5% of the time.

People lust over something like a Lexus LFA, Nissan GTR, ... all the time.
And GS has a massive following in the watch world.

Cope.

What marketing kool-aid?

>>15988409
They're both important.
Movement finishing is a lot more expensive though.

Yeah I think you're right to an extent. I also think the margins on a roger smith are probably lower than on a basic calatrava, which I bet are pretty reasonable

I would pick Lexus over BMW and Audi lmao. western carmakers like western watchmakers have already been left behind. Lexus interiors are so much better than both and the car runs smoother than anything around.

Chinese and Japanese reveal the absolute delusional wankery that is swiss watchmaking.

Seiko and Orient and Seagull are "manufacture" but you don't see them jerking themselves off in marketing and charging $3000 for something they effortlessly do for centuries.

The swiss made stamp is a pleb filter for brand suckers and deluded heritage fools.

In some ways, yes.
But GS absolutely confirms the notion that a movement with high horology finishing is fundamentally expensive to produce.

No.

GS showed you can produce an extremely nicely finished case and dial for a very good price; but even their HH movements are extremely expensive.

There is no way to prove it either way unless we know what the actual cost of producing the watch is. It is all speculation

GS is extremely good value for money compared to the craftsmanship they offer.
If they could produce a cheap HH movement, they would.
