Maybe it’s changed with Creed but I had a bottle of Aventus in 2017, before I even had a clue about fragrances and it alone got me into building a collection.

Super airy and transparent, fresh yet dark and Smokey. I 10000% understand the hype it got/gets

CDNIM doesn’t have that airy quality. It’s very sludgy, if that makes sense.

Aventus smells like you’re in the room with the ingredients, CDN smells like you’re in another room trying to pick up on notes, metaphorically of course.

I get good reactions with 2 sprays. Anything more than that people legit hate me, I’ve had very bad reactions even from strangers at 4 sprays.

All in all it captures the essence, but doesn’t hit the nail on the head.

Don't do it then. Stop consuming fragrance youtubeosphere and too many reviews. You're perhaps under impression that Aventus is some god-given formula for unlocking pussy. It's not. Its a good scent but it's popularity is blown out of proportion. Also don't listen to reviewers saying that clones are identical to OG frags. They never are.

I personally have come across a few. Especially Tom Ford fragrances, especially because they’re generally very simple and easy to recreate.

Zara also had/has (don’t know if they’ve discontinued it) a clone of Valentino Uomo. I have 4 bottles. It’s genuinely the best price/quality fragrance I’ve ever encountered. Ever. I even think it’s better than the OG

>>15983394
I don’t know what to tell you. Aventus impresses me, CDNIM really doesn’t, but as I said, it does capture the essence of the fragrance albeit in a clumsy way. Blind buy it if you like? A classic woody aromatic in the style of the 80's power scents, but with better smoothness.

On the way home I paid a visit to a local niche perfumery as I wanted to finally put my nose on Olivier Durbano's fragrances. They got a really nice selection there, including burst MDCI bottles. However, I felt a bit guilty of coming there without any intention of buying stuff so I pretended to don't know what I'm really looking for. The sales assistant was really nice and tried to be helpful but I was internally laughing when she was showing me Amouage Interlude as "a fragrance you sir might also like" as I used to own 3 different batches of it and tested the new Interlude 53 the first day it was available while pretending that I'm smelling it for the first time. In any case, I was quite underwhelmed with Durbano. Good quality but nothing really caught my attention. Some stuff I tried today:
>Olivier Durbano Black Tourmaline
Durbano's bestseller. Quite a routine woody incense with a fresh-spicy peppery twist. Well executed but eventually boring.
>Olivier Durbano Labradorite No. 13
Funky, smoky civet+castoreum ornamented with tuberose and marjoram and served on a woody background.
>Olivier Durbano Lapis Lazuli
The best one of the three I tried. It's like a picnic breakfast on a summery day somewhere in meadows. A little of woody and cypress notes, a little of green aromatic notes, a little of milky wheat. 100% unisex.
>Memo Tiger's Nest
The green absinth opening is revolting and very unique. Then it becomes predominantly a sharp, sterile incense warmed up with some resins and amber. There are very snice and great quality floral and sweet-vanillic undertones making it a three-dimensional and quite complex. Good stuff as always with Memo.

I tried Honey & Tar and Shiny Amber first. First of all, the quality of ingredients here is unbelievable. I don't have anything against synthetics as they are often enhancing the smell but she uses such rich smelling natural ingredients that it leaves you speechless after the first sniff.
Honey & Tar opens with big, dark and unapologetic birch tar. It almost suffocates. After this cloud of smoke settles down, woody facets and earthy patchouli comes out. It has a distinctive warm-spicy character. There are some sweeter undertones but I'm still waiting for honey to show up.
Shiny Amber opens with bright, zesty lemons smell that perhaps only Profumum Roma Acqua Viva comes close to. It smells like peeling real lemons not lemon cleaning products that too many frags smell of. After this initial blast it smoothly transforms to a warm amber scent that surrounds you like a cozy blanket. She apparently used two types of amber to achieve that
>“vegetable amber” – sweet resins of different plants, and “animal amber” – genuine ambergris (here I used tinctured beach harvested ambergris from New Zealand)
I also get some prominent honey undertones (it's way more noticeable here than in Honey & Tar) and some florals. Overall it's feminine leaning but it's not a fragrance I'm going to wear outside but rather when I want to get relaxed and cozy while staying inside. Beautiful stuff.
Curious what's the performance of these will be like. On one hand the ingredients are great but she also uses only naturals and I'm not so sure about the staying power of these. I won't be surprised if most of these dry down to a very similar animalic-woody accord as afaik these are ingredients you enhance longevity naturally.

>> No.15984885

I just learned an interesting fact. It is not possible to neither extract natural apple smell nor taste. All apple accords you smell are either synthetics or creative recreations of the smell.

>This smells like a baby Tyrannosaurus Rex. I'm thinking about the Zoologist kind. ;)
>Honey and Tar opens with a very smoky, tarred logs smell. There are prominent undertones of something coniferous and a strange, sharply green, herbal vibe as well. This is the part of the fragrance that really reminds me of Zoologist Tyrannosaurus Rex, but Honey and Tar is a tad softer than T-Rex. It's a baby T-Rex, clawing it's way out of the cracked egg.
>A faint, soft, very organic sweetness looms in the background. It doesn't feel animalic. It's more a smooth, floral honey type of sweetness - and it comes accompanied by something that feels like labdanum and vanilla. This soft, sweet, vanillic labdanum smell becomes more pronounced until it takes over the entire scent. And it stays by your side, like a mild and warm hearted friend, until the very last whiff.
>Sillage is heavy right away, during the smoky and aromatic phase, but dries down to a more pleasant medium after about 30-45 minutes or so. Longevity is good. I can detect this scent on my skin for 6-7 hours.
This is a good comparison.

I am still so baffled by T Rex. Now with the early onset of spring, pushing almost 20 degrees Celsius the last few days, it completely changed profile on me. It goes just soso well with the slightly warmer temperatures.

If some EdC doesn't fail to lift my mood up every time I spray it no matter how gloomy and depressing day it is, then I don't mind paying $100+ for it as I value my well-being higher than 50c or so per application that it might cost. It's also nice when you can change fragrances throughout day without having to worry about scents mixing. That's how Ophelia painting would smell like if it was bottled as a perfume. It's predominantly a captivating white-floral + green accord of lilies with freshly cut stems. Soon after you realize that there's something wrong and that these lilies are placed in a vase and that you're actually on a funeral around people mourning. There's a reason why poets always associated narcotic white flowers properties with death as that's how this Beaufort smells like. Soon after the opening another accord of freshly dug soil becomes more prominent. You can make your own conclusions what does it remind of.

Sublime Balkiss can be easily found for less than $100 but the other two are a bit out of your budget though. I will think of some cheaper options, too. Fathom V is very earthy. If you want something mossy and cheap then Grey Flannel by Geoffrey Beene is as cheap as water and some people love it. I find it a bit dated + the opening 1-2 minutes are harsh but it might be worth checking out. It smells of violets and mossy stairs in a garden (I once heard it being called a violet plaster smell and think it's brilliant).

Both are beautiful. Sublime Balkiss is more complex but easier to wear and develops a lot through all three phases. However, I found it too feminine leaning because the prominent floral-fruity vibe. Fathom V is way more austere, conceptual and dark. Some people say that it's the most challenging scent from Beaufort London, a house known for hard to pull off, grim fragrances. It almost wears you instead of you wearing this scent. However, thanks to this I find it more fulfilling to wear. It's also way more unisex than Balkiss. Weird question about this as someone whose never smelled aventus. Some people say this is spot on and others say it’s nothing like it. not him bu you're underestimating what today's technology can do in regards to cloning scents. especially fresh scents are a piece of cake to clone. also, most fragrances cost literally pennies or under 10 bucks per bottle to make, for the fragrance itself. maybe a few tens of dollars for the niche stuff if you add the bottle cost. Fragrance markup is insanely high. The current pricing system originates from designers that will sell you a shirt for 500 bucks and they do the same with fragrances.

>> No.15987851

That's not the point. You might be new to it but I've lived through many such hype waves of clones. People talking for that the scent is "identical", "not distinguishable", "a smart money choice', etc typically after the brand have sent free bottles or paid for promotions to some reviewers. Then you a test things like Al-Rehab, L'Aventure and realize that they merely remind you of SMW. It's like having a painter clone a painting from his memory. This time it seems to be the same. Pretty sure that it'll gather a cult-like following of people saying that it's better and so on but I remain skeptical till I put my nose on it. And I'm saying this as a person who was also disappointed severely with SMW. The longevity is ridiculous and I found the metallic vibe in new batches quite unpleasant.

>not him bu you're underestimating what today's technology can do in regards to cloning scents. especially fresh scents are a piece of cake to clone. also,
I don't really believe that and think that you also are no authority to make such claims on a technical subject. I'm not an expert myself but from what I read you seem to vastly overestimate the power of analytical tools. They won't spit you a ready formula to clone but rather graph most-prominent compound families used. I've heard numerous perfumers and DIY people complain that natural ingredients are the hardest to master as they can have hundreds of different components that all react differently when added to a formula - that's why it's recommended to start with synthetics and very basic natural ingredient first to get a feel how they mix. Good luck with finding out what ingredients were used to arrive at the scent your nose perceive as an abstract entity.
>most fragrances cost literally pennies or under 10 bucks per bottle to make, for the fragrance itself
I agree with that. It doesn't change my point.
>maybe a few tens of dollars for the niche stuff if you add the bottle cost. Fragrance markup is insanely high.
That's correct, too.
>The current pricing system originates from designers that will sell you a shirt for 500 bucks and they do the same with fragrances.

>If ti smells good, it smells good.
Sure thing. Moreover, I personally think that many clones would do much better as stand-alone fragrance and not marketed as being "close to XYZ". They almost always fail short of the latter but are nice (especially for the price) on their own. Not sure why people are so obsessed with ABC being the best clone XYZ. It's as if I shouted at everyone passing by that my Gucci Belt is fake without them even asking about it. Quite tacky.
> i'm /x/ so most of my frags are from indie perfumers with occult themes, sometimes from magicians I know.
That's interesting. Tell me something more. What brands/frags do you have? Are these just themes that interest you or you rather look for some specific ingredients that you believe have some properties? Natural perfumery might interest you. As a matter of fact I'm wearing Anna Zworykina Silver Lavender right now. It's all natural and has a beautiful aromatic-herbal wormwood+sage+lavender+rosemary accord with some incense. I reckon some of these herbs and plants (and obviously incense) have some pretty heavy occult connotations.

This Tommelise girl has a video from The Art and Olfaction Awards 2017 ceremony. Interesting to see how it actually looks like. Apparently she was involved in creating a finalist of it and the winner of 2019 edition. Idk why did I sleep for so long on her channel.
