>We collectively managed to create the two charts you see as the first two posts. This was the highlight of the last year.
>We've had a few episodes of some random sperg raiding these threads cyclically over last few years, including a recent one where he was spamming threads with half naked photos of Jeremy.
>It's easy to spot his imbecile baits and shitposts though. You'll likely see him respond to my post. A boring and tiring person overall.
>Jeremy is barely holding it.
>New fragrance reviewers are popping every day but the content was never shittier than now.
>Wafts From The Loft are still putting out good content but their uploads are erratic.
>Luca Turin recorded a series of very informative 30 lectures where he discusses his vibrational theory of olfaction and different families of ingredients/notes.
>He's also working on a new Perfume Guide with Tania Sanchez.
>Some regulars are gone, some still here.
>Lockdowns around the world took their toll and for this reason much of (niche) discussion is about artistic/conceptual aspects of fragrances instead of actually wearing them.
>For the same reason it seems that some started sampling a lot and others just gave up on wearing fragrances.
>Threads have been quite comfy though.

Any recommendations for a day fragrance? I don't like stuff like D&G Light Blue, feels too "fresh" I guess. I'd unironically wear The One but it's way too hot, I like the warm feel of it.

The One is great but waaay too much for regular day to day wear, especially in summer. You don’t actually want to smell like a gentleman playboy everywhere you go.
Try Prada L‘Eau if you want something that just smells nice in a likeable, clean and expensive way.
Try Bleu de Chanel if you’re more into easygoing blue fragrances. Maybe Versace Dylan Blue if you want more spice and less smooth. While you’re at it, try Bulgari Aqva as well.
Aqua di Gio Profumo is fit for every occasion and also has a warmer feel to it but I’m not a fan of the drydown and it’s kinda boring desu.
L‘Eau D‘Issey is fresh, nice, classic and manly. Not too inoffensive or easy to like as L‘Eau or Bleu, but also not too manly and bold like Eau Sauvage.
As some other anon said, Luna Rossa Carbon is a safe bet, but L‘Eau is by far the better warm weather Prada fragrance.

And if you like Aspen then try to find a NOS bottle of Sierra first, it'll cost more but it's worth it if you can find one. Or if money isn't an issue, then hunt down a bottle of Polo Crest. Unfortunately it's also been discontinued so it's rather expensive

It smells extremely rich and dense. It's got that damp pipe tobacco sweetness and tons of spices and woody, sawmill notes. The top is a boozy, woody bourbon whiskey hit. It's tremendous. The scent actually has WEIGHT.

It's not popular for two reasons: there is nothing light or airy or fresh or clean about it, and it's also very, very easy to over-spray. I heard the last versions were pretty weak, but I know the first formulations were as strong as paint stripper.

I can't get over how good Mendittorosa Archetipo is. Pic related is how it smells (+salty, sea breeze chasing this fog). Still got 2-3ml of my decant and I'm seriously considering getting a bottle. A 100ml bottle of it costs about the same as 30ml bottle of Norne and Archetipo is exactly everything I expected from the former. Probably still gonna order a sample of it to see if I was wrong but the beauty of Norne would need to be truly otherworldly to make it a better choice over Archetipo. I think the important distinction between people like Wafts is that they aren’t “reviewers” in the sense that they try to offer consumer advice. They just express their thoughts. There are others like them, but they’re probably the most well known here. People like Jeremy that put out endless lists are either paid or just churning out easy content. I don’t disagree with you, but there are exceptions. I guess it’s easy to trick people when they can’t smell what you’re talking about. It’s such a subjective thing too.

These threads go through phases. It’s a weird place for the last six months. People are out of work. People can’t go to places to sample. They can’t go out and have lives. All we can do is stay at home and sniff our wrists, but without an income it’s not always a justifiable expense.

I think the threads have a kind of established list of classics so you hear them a lot, but when it comes to niche people do their own thing. Some people like Bortnikoff. Some like Bianchi. Some Papillon. These aren’t cheap things to sample so we either have one or two people recommending them based on their experience with little backup, or loads of people recommend the classics and it gets repetitive.

I started coming here in mid-2018 and it always has peaks and troughs, but there are constants and those constants are what give the repetition to the threads, but I think it’s nice to have consistency and a kind of respect for the classics.

Not him but I think the opposite is true. You might just have unrealistic expectations. You get <100 unique posters per thread here. Out of that, perhaps about 50% are newbs who all ask similar questions and talk about the same 10-20 most popular fragrances over and over again, and then you got 50% of more or less regular posters. The latter have their collections sorted out for the most part. How often do you need to add a new bottle? 1 or 2 times a year? For such a tiny General I genuinely think that people here discuss shitload of new interesting things. Only over the last thread or two I've learned about Bruno Acampora Young Heart and Kosciuszko by Blocki that both are under the radar everywhere on the internet and that I've started looking after samples of as they seem to be like great matches for my taste. Compare the outcome of this general with less than 100 posters a thread to r/fragrance where despite 115000 users almost every single collection seem like based off two or so YouTube TOP 10 videos, and they discuss bullshit like "what's the most pleasant sprayer for fingers" or "I wore a GIRLS PERFUME for the FIRST TIME and you WON'T BELIEVE what's happened..." I've been participating in plenty of online frag communities online but /frag/ really seems to be the most interesting, informative and fun place to be in and don't get me wrong. I would also like to have more new people with interesting tastes posting here, but they're not that common. Likewise, I'd be interested if you found any better place to discuss stuff yourself.

Not absolutely dreadful but quite bad. I was overall pretty underwhelmed with this fragrance in its current form (perhaps the vintage batches are better). I expected it to smell like "rape in woods". You can get castoreum here but it's really smoothly blended. It's not disgusting-fecal at all and just gives Yatagan a slight animalic vibe. It dries down to this sweet-powdery-herbal thing that seems really uninspiring. It's sweet the way resins in coniferous trees are when you break its branch or bark. And the sweetness is definitely present from the very beginning and gets more prominent in the drydown. It's not as hypermasculine in the drydown as some people want to paint it. Pretty unisex I'd say after the opening.

Serge Lutens Muscs Koublai Khan

Thrilled that this storied, incomparable fragrance has FINALLY been made available Stateside. This is the animalic to end all animalics. For sheer, jaw-dropping mammalian muskiness, not even KIEHL'S MUSK or Malle's MUSC RAVAGEUR can compete. Beeswax and Costus root blend with a musk that is.... undeniably human and undeniably masculine. Picture: the used cotton t-shirt of the hunkiest, most virile 22-year-old auto-mechanic you can imagine. This fragrance operates on an almost subliminal level, low sillage, and you will not believe its naked declaration. Musk lovers may have found their Holy Grail.

Smells like my cab driver last night and a little like my balls after a day of partying.

I have to say, this one on me is rank stank. It smells like wet groundhog. Not that I know what that smells like but, I can imagine. I am going to try it again because A. I LOVE Serge Lutens (all of them so far besides this) and B. All of you people cannot be wrong. I need to be in a different mindset. I was so thinking that I would smell like crotch that I was not open to the possibilities. Not sure which is worse, crotch or wet vermin. Anyway, will try it again.

If ever there were a scent that smelled like Bigfoot's penis, this would be IT.

I'll be blunt, this was a sweet pleasant, erotic surprise for me. It smells like slobbery roses... sweet, beyond sweet, erotic skin smell. The DryDown smells of PURE civet grease, which has this.... sweet yet faintly metallic Pear Skin, Anise vibe, with a notable fecal tone, like.. as I say, after trying to wipe with a single-ply tissue.. I'm saving this for special occasions. It's a mood fragrance. As I describe it... If I washed my mouth out with Rose water.. and then slobbered on a crotch, let it dry a bit and then sniff.... that's what MKK is. This is one.. DIRTY animal, and ah love eeet!!

She bought it from some all-natural pharmacy, for some laughable money like 3EUR, and I'm not sure if I could count more than a few better birch tar fragrances than this shampoo and I'm saying it as a hardcore nichefag. It's apparently made out of natural birch that's quite abundant here and has more smoky nuances, depth and texture than 100EUR+ fragrances recreating it. Maybe Arte Profumi Fumoir comes close. >Is it just that specific scent or do you think the whole brand is good?
No idea really mate. Could ask her but she's not as much into fragrances as I am and I believe she bought it rather for it being a good all-natural product not the scent.
>I can see the product is polish but I’m assuming you’re not from there? 3eur seems expensive for Polski prices in my experience lol
I am actually. It actually seems to be leaning to the cheaper side of the price spectrum if you were to pay a visit to a high street pharmacy. I feel like their target are just not typical middle class girls who are into expensive natural/indie beauty products but rather regular people and hence the price. For 3EUR you don't have too much to loose here to find out.
