What do (you) see as a one-and-done watch?
Please dont be boring and say Rolex or Presage/GS. Hot takes only.
And no, a mudman is not acceptable in office or dress settings.

Anyone know if this Armitron digitial is any good? I really want a digital with a stainless case and i hate the fake MOP on the casio ones.
It has a really great retro look and apparently Armitron has been making cheap digital watches for at least 30 years.

It’s really tough. The mythical one watch collection is pretty unreasonable I think, you just have to concede too many different things depending on your lifestyle.

A realistic 1 watch collection for me would probably be a JLC Master Control Calendar. It’s complicated enough to stay interesting with a great, well-finished movement and can be dressed down or up to a degree. The only downsides are piss poor water resistance and it’s 40mm, but neither of those are game breakers.

I prefer a more brass look to bronze things, with this amount of copper, Im betting it would start to (((develop patina))) at a much quicker rate. Is that desirable? Im guessing for the generic populace no, what with wanting to hold on to the sheen for as long as possible while maintaining a curious color.

Those who intentionally dunk their watches in saline solutions for the sheer effect are a minority and have their own way of going about doing things, so taking them as an exploitable niche is bad business.

But what do I know.

Sup watchfags, I'm looking for a nice compact and good value flieger watch. I don't want to spend close to $500 on a Laco with a miyota movement, or over $1000 to get the swiss movement. Does anything exist in the ~$100 range on Ali that's 40mm or less and not made like shit? Or with a sellita or other eta clone if the price is reasonable as well.

Hermès makes quite good watches. They have a big stake in Vaucher, who supply movements to Parmigiani and Richard Mille. Hermès watches aren’t particularly well finished, but they’re not particularly expensive either. They make some interesting watches but it is a hard sell; I’m not sure who exactly is spending $7k on a square Hermès watch instead of a Reverso or Tank.

Definitely. Watches under that price range may not be heirloom material, but there's still watches to suit all tastes in all categories. At the end of the day a $10 casio does a better job of actually telling time than a half-mil patek, so don't stress so much over price. I need/want daily watches, dress watches, divers, beaters, etc with lots of variety in size, dials, and straps to suit my mood. That fits me a lot better than a single watch.

Hhmm. I don't research watches in that price range much. I'm currently looking at getting a Seiko Monster or an homage and putting it on a super engineer bracelet, or a Vostok Classica, or a few other things. But if I couldn't get those, then perhaps a 36mm Datejust like picrel, or a GS Snowflake or a blue-dialed GS like a SBGP007? Although in both cases those would just be to replace similarly styled watches that I'm already very happy with, a Parnis Datejust homage and the Seiko SUR317. I don't have a grail watch, I'm already quite happy with the watches in my small collection.

I don't need to sell to fund a Rolex, when the AD decides to grace me with a phone call. God Rolex is the cuck of watch brands.

OK so this guy is taking the piss but for anyone who is only just getting into watches, you really should take this post to heart. Nobody, I mean NOBODY other than watch snobs know anything about watches. They will judge your watch based on how flashy it looks. That's it. Women only care what looks flashy, guys only care what looks flashy, interviewers only care what looks flashy. Unless the word rolex is visible on your watch nobody knows what a "Tudor" even is. So when you're just getting started, you really should just stick to knock offs and see if you even like the look.
