>It takes one glance at a Dietrich watch to know it’s something different. Available here are several models in the brand’s Time Companion series, as well as the standalone DD-1 watch—both sporting cases in Dietrich’s signature hexagonal shape. Outfitted with a precise ETA 2824-2 mechanical automatic movement with 28,800 oscillations per hour and an impressive 38-hour power reserve, these timepieces deliver exceptional accuracy and ease of use. Both feature white “super luminous” hands and indexes, as well as a sweeping second hand and date indication at 3 o’clock. The Time Companion watches have a stainless steel hexagonal bracelet with matching case, whereas the DD-1 sports a leather band with a slimmer PVD-coated stainless steel case.

I wish there was a watch with a movement like this, exactly this shape, but the case just big enough to accommodate the hands. Not round. Shaped exactly like the movement itself, kind of like a rectangle with rounded corners, no bulk added by making a round display or dial, just leaving the movement as it is. Probably with integrated bracelet, or at most very very short lugs. Kinda imagine it to look like an f91w but with a beautifully constructed mechanical movement and metal case.

The whole floating case suspension system is weird, it seems super comfortable, but i would have to try it on. You might have to mess around with the tightness on the bracelet a bunch to get it fitting tight enough where the case suspension kicks in but without cutting off your circulation. I'm also worried it might trap dirt in the gap and get gritty, but apparently owners say it's not an issue. I'm alway a bit wary of gimmicks but it seems like an actual positive improvement and it's is very much in the sprit oc bringing sport watches forward, i think it looks great and isn't too derivative.

They don't look generic. They actually have their own distinctive style. You think they look generic because they were fairly influential and still use the same basic design cues from 50 years ago so by now you have unconsciously absorbed looking at hundreds of watches that were influenced by them later on, unaware that those watches were influenced in part by Zodiac.
They are a little overpriced but it's basically the Swiss tax.

This, partly, but also the Nautilus was becoming so overhyped, it risked becoming the only watch Patek was known for and Patek didn't like what it was doing to its customer base.
Considering how conservative the company is, I suspect this move has been years in the making.

I'm so sick of people memeing that garbage. the f91W in particular looks like a toy with its many different colors of text slapped across it and the backlight sucks. the watch you posted looks better, but it has a total shit strap. if you were the replace the strap, the way that the strap fits in would also make it look awkward. you would have to get a strap 2mm wider, and then shave off the ends to make it look like a more natural fit. and it would look bad on a NATO, you would have to use some kind of 2 piece nylon strap because that watch basically looks like an athletic sport tool more than a watch so you have to lean into that aesthetic all the way.

The screen is basically just a date window or seconds counter and it works for that. You are not supposed to be using it. The features like world time are useless though because of how small it is.
I love mine a lot more than I thought I would. Initially I also hated the screen and was going to send it back but it looks and wears great.

Yes this is what I was thinking a few days before mine arrived.
Seems kind of silly now to fuss around selling a $100 watch for a discontinued $150+ one since the appeal is that it's supposed to be cheap. There's the new smaller one coming out and the only unisex option seems to be the white/silver option. I might just wait to scoop that up and see if the mods come out and it wears more like a RO than an Overseas.
>>15969585
I do see how people like how it wears. It's comfy, low weight and you do forget it's there. I was hoping that it could put in work as a beater for me, but since the screen is hard to use I wouldn't even take it out for exercising.

Yeah all I need my work watch to do is tell the time so I am OK with my Casioak but the screen is useless. The hands also block it sometimes and moving the hands wastes more time... it's just a tough analog fashion watch and you have to accept it.
Luckily it does look really nice and wear well. If you don't like yours, flip it while it's still a hot meme.

>But for the majority of watch buyers, the most important timepieces are those that are accessibly priced and offer a ton of value. One brand that constantly delivers in this regard is Longines, a manufacture of longstanding heritage that provides quality Swiss watches with competitive specifications and pricing. The most recent entry into their catalogue is the new Longines Silver Arrow, a watch that at $3050 AUD offers a level of quality usually found at a much higher price point.
>The watch is a modern revival of the Silver Arrow originally released in 1956 by Longines. The name stemmed from a contest within the company to name the watch, and among 450 proposals “Silver Arrow” was the winning moniker with the name deriving from the dominant German racing cars of the era.

Changing colors is not a big deal, they roll off the same molds. It's increasing the production of molds that requires heavy allocation of resources.
It's confirmed that there was heavy internal pushback during the development of the Casioak because the old guard didn't like how it didn't look tough as balls like normal G-Shocks or something and that seems to be continuing to this day. >> No.15970136

>>15970128
Usually gold plating doesn't last that long. If your watch is being protected by a sleeve and you're not using it hard you could get years out of it but if it's being worn daily and rubbing on stuff it'll start wearing in a year. That said, the silver version is not actually steel either, but painted plastic, so that will also wear. The plastic underneath tends to be gray however so it will wear a bit more gracefully.
Casio does a decent job with the paint on these things so you will probably be able to get a couple years use out of it before it starts getting ugly.

Market segmentation. It is inefficient for a conglomerate like the Swatch Group to spend marketing resources competing against themselves for segments they already target with other brands, when they could instead spend those resources targeting additional non-overlapping segments instead.

Also, since Longines price positioning is below that of Omega, Swatch would rather sell more Omegas than Longines, all else being equal.

Also keep in mind that Swatch almost managed to destroy Omega's brand value entirely in the 90s by making even them in the same conglomerate manufacturing chain as Swatch's lower end brands, and they've had to spend the last 20 years working their asses off to rescue Omega's credibility, so now they definitely want Omega to be seen as a significant cut above any of their other conglomerate brands.
