But that's no excuse for crass generalisations about an entire culture, much less VULGAR imitations of their accent. I have some class books about japanese design and visual culture if you'd like to have a ræd of them.

If you just want a G-shock for all the reasons you should want a G-shock (durability, bomb-proof, bang around) probably not, but if you want something blingy, street style, "fresh", and relatively affordable, you should do a lot worse. It's a cool ass watch, but if you want a G-shock to go swimming with, do yard/mechanical work with, go biking with, get a regular ass resin cased model, it'll be a helluva lot more wearable. Field watch: Explorer, got it. Would love a 1016 Space Dweller but that's just not feasible.
Dive: I guess a GS SD diver, but I don't have the wrist for divers and don't care enough. I wear a G shock for actual ocean stuff.
Chrono: Giugiaro 7A28, first quartz chrono, got it. There are some cool Credor chronos I could go for too. Universal Geneve made some beautiful vintage ones, the tri-compax are sick. But I don't use the complication that much, my phone does that (or I just look at a normal 3 hander and remember the time when I start my internal mental timer.)
Pilot: I guess the SD Spacewalk but I don't really care about Pilot watches. Richard Garriott is a lovable weirdo and that's a cool watch, but I won't get it realistically.
Grail: Credor Eichi II, nuff said. Maybe a vintage Breguet, like a genuine treasure, but something I'd actually wear? An Eichi.
Dress: SBGW255, Jade SE. On the way boyos, will pair with a BoR bracelet.
Digital: Lange's are cool, I'd never actually get this though. My G Shock is plenty.
High Comp: Always wanted a Breguet minute repeater because of Maturin's, the Credor SD minute repeater is cool too.
Misc: I don't have a solid gold watch+bracelet, that'd be cool. The Midas is neat, and the 45GS I'm also very in love with. Think the 95GS in 18k would also be nice here.

I ditched the Field category because I have no interest in field watches and I stuck to recent production models. I'd do a separate one of these for vintage watches.

Lots of tough choices here. Almost went black Pelagos for the diver, but I can't resist the spring drive and Sallaz polishing of the Seiko. The 3861 MOTFM only made it in because I could sneak a Datograph into the high comp. category.

I sold this bad boy in the summer last year because the AD that got me my Explorer II made me think I was getting the new Submariner (no date) when it came out. Thinking of buying a Hamilton Khaki Field Mechanical from ebay. It's set at 350€ but you can sent offers. 38mm, white dial, H-50 with 80 hour power reserve. 1 year old but supposedly as new (pic related).

This would be my first real watch, is it a good deal or should I wait? I understand the watch is much cheaper to get in America. But it's like 470€ new here. Though that version comes with the green band, dunno if I like that one or the leather in this one better.

The Hamilton is OK. It's a nice watch but it's very basic, it doesn't look impressive or expensive. You are basically just paying to have "a decent mechanical watch." Some people love the Hamilton because it's a brand with some history and it's a classic, versatile design, but others don't like it because it's too simple and they start craving something either tougher or more flashy. Don't get a watch you aren't 100% in love with.

you're still paying a small premium for the brand though. There are fieldwatches with better stats like the vario venture. But hamilton is a heritage american(now swiss) brand.
i'd be more excited if it was the old ETA 2824-2 movement. the H-50 is new and they reduced the beat rate in exchange for more power reserve. Those old ones are quite hard to find now.
i also wouldnt pay too much attention to non metal bracelet straps. A huge variety of leather straps and natoes are easily bought and gotten elsewhere, it shouldnt factor into the purchase at all.

Omega's external finishing was comically bad for their pricepoints back then, and their 2500 movements had a strong tendency to eat themselves if not babied. What's to miss? Omega has cleaned up their act massively in the last 10 years.

Again, you don't understand how much training it takes for someone to become skilled enough at that type of work to be useful to high horology watchmakers. Those workers are mostly all Swiss because Switzerland has the education system to train people for that kind of work.

And since all the watchmakers who are willing to pay skilled workers to actually do that quantity of hand labour are all located in places with high wages, that means that those watches made with huge quantities of hand labour cost a huge amount to make.

First thing that you see on the backside of a Royal Oak is the comic sans name and that's already such a turnoff that I didn't bother continuing to look at pictures (or rather renderings most of the time) of the rear.

The Geneva seal requires a high standard of hand finishing on the movement to obtain, and I mentioned it as a short hand for explaining the standard to which the Overseas movement is finished.

I did not say that the AP was finished worse *because* it did not have the same seal, this was you're own mistaken inference. The inferiority of the AP movement's finishing is plainly obvious from looking at zoomed in pictures of it, no need to rely on external certifications.

It would be better to not buy any Omega's with 2500 series movements at all, but since that guy already did buy one, I'm trying to do him a favour by warning him about the issue.

Read here for an analysis, with microscope photography, of the issue: https://omegaforums.net/threads/to-co-axial-or-not-to-co-axial-or-is-it-a-case-of-back-to-the-future.27893/

There really isn't any way to resolve the danger of excessive wear on the co-axial gear teeth on that movement because the microscopic teeth require microscopic amounts of oil for cushioning the impacts on the teeth while operating. That cushioning oil dries up eventually, and when it does there will be a much higher risk of excessive wear than there would be on a normal Swiss lever escapement.

That's not even to mention the issues if the service center doesn't put precisely the correct microscopic amounts of oil on those co-axial gear teeth at service.

They didn't really start to potentially get a handle on these issues until the 85xx generation.
