>The HDD watch is a creation that was successfully funded on Indiegogo and created by watchmaker Jean Jerome and is the first watch to be made from a hard disc drive.
>It is not just a fancy watch that designed to look like hard drive, but it is a watch repurposed from actual one-inch microdrives. Originated as a joke back in January 2013, Parisian watch making enthusiast, Jean Jerome was enamored by the idea and decided to turn this joke into a reality. As fate would have it, he found out that the fast becoming obsolete microdrives turns out to have the physical size that could made for the perfect watch faces.
>There’s not a great deal that can be said about the movement. It’s quartz, and a pretty small one at that. It’s the Miyota-Citizen GL20, which is one of the few movements thin enough to fit in the case behind the hard drive disc / dial (it has a height of a mere 2.28mm). It doesn’t have any jewels, nor does it have any complications or a second hand. It has a 5 year battery life, and accuracy of +/- 20 seconds a month.
>The HDD watch is available for the left and right wrists, and recent updates have been that you can now choose a dial with indexes engraved.
>It is also now available as kit so if you are handy and careful, you can embark on the construction of the HDDWatch yourself.

depends on the movement
automatics are either unidirectional (they only wind in one direction) or bidirectional (they wind in both directions)

If the rotor has to wind the mainspring while it turns, it is facing resistance as it turns. On a bi-directional winding watch there is resistance in both directions and the rotor feels "stiff" all the time...

On a uni-directional winding watch, the rotor only has resistance in one direction, and is quite free to turn in the other direction as there is no resistance.

but from what i see on jomw the promasters have nice machining. Their price is not unreasonable. If you get the ecodrive it'll be a true beater as quartz can take shit that mechanicals cannot.

How would you rate Dornblüth? They make completely hand made watches with heavily modified Unitas movements which are basically 70% original. a battery change is very easy
its just like changing the batteries on the tv remote
if its 'not just the batteries', theres nothing they can do anyway. There are some serviceable quartz movements but i dont think invicta uses them
they/you would have to replace the whole movement if its not just the batteries.

anyway, a brand new entry quartz movement is like $2-15 off aliexpess/alibaba. They will probably charge you like $50 or whatever, idk

A battery change from a jeweler is like $5-10

so if you dont want to do yourself, just ask for the price and see how much they wanna jew you and see if its reasonable

In order to maintain this they need absolute control over even the secondary market. That's why you have to "build a relationship with your AD" to move up on some retarded waitlist for Rolex watches, why they withhold your warranty card and peel the stickers off in store, and why they even hire investigators to troll grey market sites and forums trying to match up new sales to purchases so they can blacklist you if you dare flip an in-demand model.
And Rolex buyers are so brainwashed they defend this, viscerally and instinctively, like the guy in this thread screaming about how it doesn't matter crying "WHY ARE YOU BOTHERED BY IT??" when he is clearly the most bothered by this discussion. Automatic looks bizarre to the rest of the text, in a different font, not in all caps, not in italics, looks slightly too far to the right in relation to HERITAGE as a result.
The G in HERITAGE looks off too, needs rotating slightly anticlockwise.
The L and A in MONT BLANC look slightly too far apart.

Watches are a man thing, like cars. There are some women who are into watches like how women can be into cars, but 99% of the time those women want the same masculine aesthetic that men want out of their watches. It makes sense that they would buy men's watches, especially since it's acceptable for a woman to wear a man's watch as long as it's not insanely big.

ok first off, take it from a guy who had a DOXA once, the watch looks sick and there's nothing really like it, the bracelet is great too, but the lume is disappointing for such a legendary diver. yeah it's ok for like casual diving but you expect more. really nice watch though all around, lots of personality and diving credentials.
if you want a decent dive watch I like the citizen promaster diver quartz version, it was my grab-and-go watch for a long time. it has really nice looks, good lume, and everything about it just works. if you want an automatic seiko turtles have a nice retro style case, they have a bit of that fun style as DOXAs and that's an ISO certified reliable watch for $300.

Get something that is ISO rated as a diver.

If you don't mind quartz then the Citizen BN0150 or BN0151 offer the best value ISO rated analogue diver on the market.

If you want a mechanical ISO diver than a Seiko Turtle is probably going to be the cheapest option. Seiko has a bunch of mid-range ISO diver options, just try to buy in person if you can so you can visually verify dial/chapter ring/rotating bezel alignment before you buy.

It doesn’t make them a bad watch brand. It’s just an amusing, extremely tasteless watch brought to you by the guys with maybe the most absurdly pretentious advertising campaign ever made.

Patek still has things going for them - arguably the best name in the industry, strong design, and semenslurpers who argue they can do no wrong and will pay whatever Patek asks (remind you of any other famous brand?).

If people want to pay the Patek tax, more power to them. However, Patek has been #1 for a long, long time and the crown is heavy. Every year Lange looks a little better and Patek a little worse. At least they discontinued the 5711. Hopefully it stays gone so some of the steel sports faggots can fuck off.

Patek themselves disagree with you. They cancelled the 5711 because
> As for why Patek Philippe is nixing the 5711? It is all about protecting the long term health of the brand, Mr Stern says.
>“We are doing this for our clients who already own a Patek Philippe and to protect our brand from becoming too commercial. I can continue to make this fantastic product, or sell 10 times more of them. But I am not working for numbers. I am protecting the company for the future, for my children,” he insists. “A watch should not be a top leader on its own. That is too dangerous,” he concludes.
Hilariously they’re bringing out a new model, limited to 3 boutiques world wide, and telling everyone on the existing waiting lists to fuck off. Thierry Stern has famously said some pretty stupid stuff but I actually agree with him here.

G-Shock. I've gone diving with mine many times, I use it as a backup to my dive computer. A digital timer is easier to read at a glance and a backlight beats lume every day of the week. Never had a problem pressing buttons under water, G-Shocks are meant for it. Go for a model with a front-facing light button for ease of use and solar so you're never stuck with a dead battery, like the GW6900, GR8900, or the GW2310 (what I use). If you want to spend more then get a Rangeman or some other higher-end model, but it's totally unnecessary.
