>best """"swiss""""" watch for under a thousand
sure :)
its rather inoffensive as watches go
and for a tissot it looks nice which is the exception
since they are confined at the lower rungs of the swatch group
its that kind of perfect 'office watch'
but unless you want "swiss" (whatever that means at under $1k)
there are equally compelling options from the jap side.

100m water resistance, column wheel + vertical clutch, in-house movement, 42mm diameter by 11.9mm thick. They're $12k new but you can find them for well under $10k used or possibly grey market.

All of those requirements are pretty autistic so your mileage may vary but it is extremely difficult to find a decent mechanical chronograph outside of the Speedmaster below $10k.

Sure, the Polaris has occasionally been criticized for being a little big at 42mm and feeling like a dinner plate with the internal bezel, but I think the chronograph remedies that somewhat by making the dial a little bit more busy. I think the chronograph looks much better than the diver version and am seriously considering selling my Speedmaster and putting the money towards one.

They also make a world timer which is interesting but pushing the limit at 44mm.

I warned you idiots that the hand is moving in retarded increments literally the first time I've seen the watch and saw that it has 3 subsecond steps marked on the dial... but no one listened.

The previous one had 5, and it moved completely differently to this one.

This looks really good, but I wouldn't make much use of a world timer so it would be superfluous for my purposes.

I take your point about the Speedmaster being amongst the best chronographs in that price range, and while I do think it is a nice watch, it (at least in the Professional form) is a bit too stripped down/basic for my liking. I enjoy applied indices, high-polished hands, fine finishing, etc. and the Professional is lacking in those areas for me. I for one think that the Seamaster Diver 300M is Omega's best tool watch in terms of the balance of its functionality and aesthetic and it is on my list as well.

I'm not wedded to any particular watch manufacturer and it's nice to have some variety. The JLC seems to fit my vibe quite well.

You're free to check the movement of the second hand by yourself, just look at 3 different videos, one from the watch mentioned in >>15937242 which has 6 subsecond clicks but 5 subsecond markers (which makes it always slightly off so you can't read it properly), then the one way before that which had normal movement, then the new one which has 3 subsecond markers and it looks retarded as shit.

I want this watch badly but i am mad as fuck that they put such a mediocre quartz movement in it. It's not complete dogshit but it's pretty lame as far as ETA quartz goes. There are cheaper certina watches and other swatch group brands that use ± 20 seconds per year or so quartz movements even if they don't bother to do the chronometer certification on them. Meanwhile the movement in the PRX is closer to ± 15 seconds per month, no excuse other than swatch group fuckery with not letting tissot make a watch that is too nice.

Okay i looked closer at the movement for the PRX, it's actually a new movement with some interesting tech. I has a feature like casios tough movement that will automatically re align the hands in case of shock. It's also specially designed to allow the watch to have larger hands without any counterbalance or at least with a much smaller counterbalance. The model in the PRX is a new model that so far is only in the PRX.
I guess it's not the worst thing ever but it would be nice if i could find some accuracy specifications somewhere.

>> No.15937744

The yachetmaster is basically the same as the sub except for cosmetic differences and the bidirectional bezel. It's only advertised as 100m water resistance but there is no reason to believe it wouldn't hold up just as well as the sub under water and it's likely rolex uses the different water ratings mainly for product differentiation purposes.
I saw someone say the yachetmaster was supposed to replace the sub but it never happened because of the subs massive popularity.

It’s not a problem. The case isn’t the focus and even if it was, when it comes to precious metals, they’re very very often simply polished and left alone. I’m no big fan of the Lambda, but the focus is obviously meant to be on the dial with the extravagant power reserve and the movement decoration.

If they wanted to spice up the case, they could have very simply and minutely curved the lugs, but the long, straight lugs are a pretty intrinsic part of their design language.

The watch is too big anyway, it should have been 36mm. This trend of enlarging the watch in order to brag about a higher power reserve is totally asinine.

I finally got promoted to manager and settled on getting the Black Bay 58 over the AnOrdain M1.

If I get it on the NATO (i.e. this exact model) am I genuinely going to miss out on anything? The steel bracelet is the one part of the watch people criticise the most what with the faux rivets and not worth £140 extra.

I'm unlikely to wear it to work, much less when I have to deal with the public or clients so formality isn't really a consideration for me.

Beautiful watch, the bb58 is one of the best on the market today.
The general advice is you should buy the bracelet because if you decide you want it later it will cost $500 or more separately. If you are absolutely positive that you will never want it then don't worry about it. As far as i know the critiques of the bracelet are more about looks than comfort or functionality.

the old seiko5s have stopped production, so prices have increased. if you can get them near $100 they are still an okay buy, but i would recommend an orient tristar/bambino/anything from them in that range, or add another $100 and get the orient kamasu, which has excellent stats for $180.

otherwise alternative choices are the AE brands like san martin/heimdallr/steeldive/tissell, or microbrands like vario/boldr/hked. Or get a vostok.

or get this, its the newest super value meme

Personally, I don't see the point in these watches. You could just get a casio with a 10 year battery life for 20 bucks, the battery in that will be completely dead after that. I wish they went with a full sized dot matrix, like the old USB datalinks. What am I saying, I bet this thing has little to no programmability anyway.

You could play tetris on these old datalinks, and they still had a 2 year battery life. Well, 2 months if you spent enough time in high power modes like playing tetris.

It's a shame we can't get a modern version of that. Instead all we get is always online notification sending garbage.

always get the bracelet, natoes are not worth considering and it'll be a pain to get the bracelet on its own after
>Black Bay 58 over the AnOrdain M1.
i wish anordain stuck with this initial variant. The hands are too thick for my liking on the new ones

I wish they made some models larger than 36mm. I don't have bitch wrists.

Lol imagine waking up to this. You know most of my clients are public transport companies or the government right. I'm not even the one who does the marketing, I just write surveys and do focus groups.

The bracelet is nice and well made. Some people find the rivets ugly but I don't mind them. My only complaint about it is that it only has a few micro adjust holes. Still way better than a nato strap
