Obviously it is going to vary depending on the fragrance, but generally how many sprays do you guys use? I typically go with 3-5 sprays, sometimes more depending on the frag.

Also, why do people bitch about performance issues with Elysium Parfum Cologne? It was still going strong at 10 hours for me today

>> No.15930045

If I’m sampling I’ll do a couple on a wrist for a first try. I’ll take it from there. If I buy a full bottle I’ll usually do one spray of that because they release more perfume, and again take it from there.

However, if lockdown has taught me anything, I always underestimate how strong some things are. Bengale Rouge seemed tame and close to the skin. I wore it to my parents’ and my dad couldn’t handle it.

Let's get this thread started with a hot take:
Imo most Parfums de Frederic Malle are overrated with a few exceptions, they are average as best and not worth the price

>> No.15930071

>>15930063
I kind of agree. I’ve been sampling them extensively (and talking about them lots here) but I’m not enamoured with them. I haven’t had a bad one yet, in fact I’d say I liked all of them. I suppose I could say I don’t like Promise, but I really admire it, I just don’t enjoy it. But in terms of absolutely loving them that would only be Portrait of a Lady, En Passant, Le Parfum de Therese, and Musc Ravageur. If money weren’t an issue I’d have full bottles of all of those. However, things like Monsieur, Vetiver Extraordinaire, French Lover and many more all impress me, but either they have serious performance issues or they just don’t truly excite me. Bigarade Concentree is a good example. Absolutely amazing opening, piss-poor performance. L’eau d’Hiver is nice, but too heady.

They’re all very well blended and mostly very wearable but for the price they’re difficult to justify bottles of many of them. For somebody new to perfumes I think they’re a good house to explore because they offer good work some some legends of perfumery, and the broad selection of notes and styles means you can learn a lot by spending time with them.

I do enjoy some of his scents, portrait being the main one I go back to (if anyone has a dupe lmk because I'm thinking bout buying a full bottle), but I 100% agree that they're overpriced and fairly average overall

I also enjoyed portrait, musc ravageur and therese the most but imo decants will do it for these.
I try not to mix up the scent itself and perfomance, but I agree with you, some absolutely do lack longevity and projection.
What makes them quite interesting is that literally all of them are unisex

>>15930075
havent heard of a dupe, and desu I'd be goin for the real deal

Received some samples and tested MMM jazzclub and by the fireplace yesterday, wasnt expecting too much, but still was disappointed, jazzclub reminded me more of a prom and by the fireplace was just a sweet syntetic marhsmellow smell, no incense whatsoever

Yes, although it should be said that just because Fragrantica lists ten notes doesn’t mean you can smell ten things, but what it means more accurately is that it’s not a mess. Some fragrances have a nice smell to them, but they’re blended in such a way that it’s difficult to discern one thing.

Promise, as I said, I don’t like. But what I really enjoy is how it’s a thick, dense, heavy scent if you smell it one way, and at the same time the Rose note is really delicate and beautiful. Poorly handled, this wouldn’t work, but it’s done in such a way that it feels like two fragrances at once and you can clearly pick out different elements.

>>15930100
I got my bottle of Portrait for free so in a way I feel like I should buy another because that bottle cost me nothing in the end. I’m the same in that I don’t like to equate longevity with quality (modern Eau Sauvage is one of my absolute favourites) but there has to be a limit where the price becomes unjustifiable. Neroli Portofino smells much nicer than Bright Neroli but when you consider Bright Neroli is twenty times cheaper, NP is unjustifiable. It’s not twenty times nicer.

>> No.15930168

Ordered the Bianchi samples back from Mars. Tried Etruscan Water on my wrist yesterday for the first time and boy was it diffrent then what I expected. I thought it would be green aromatic with an animalic twist but what I got was a really dominant resin/oily base that overshadowed the top like nothing I have smelled before. Also to me the projection was average to low on my wrist, but my family immediatley commented on how piercing it was. Also the scent stayed remarkably similar throughout the whole day, onl after over 20h the resin oil base started becoming less dominant and the green notes were more friendly.
Definitely not interested in a full bottle but so far its fun sampling something really diffrent.

Finally came around to test my 1725 Casanova sample by HdP.

I do own a full bottle of Invasion Barbare & Satorial, so the comparison is my main focus.

1725 opens remarkably similar to IB but, with a more noticeable citrus and a lavender that is less blended with the other aromas. The projection is less than IB, but stronger than Satorial.

IB comes at you in a more coherent form, while 1725 is more parallel in the notes. You notice however that the depth of IB is much more intriguing and you get more varied impressions from focusing on it.

1725 does come quite close to IB at the surface but is strictly worse in terms of composition, projection, longevity, depth, sophistication. If that’s worth the price difference to you, is up to you to decide.

So what’s the place of Satorial here? I t does remind me of IB very much as well but has a strong independent character. The honey and metallic notes as well as the chalk aspect make it unique. It is again, in all measures strictly worse than IB, but this time that’s excused by the very realistic impression of a tailor’s workshop.

My grandma who was a master tailor passed away in the autumn of 2019, and the way that Satorial evokes the memory of her workshop made me get the bottle.

In summary, if you want IB, get the real thing if the price is not an issue to you.

Thanks for your post. I also tried all three. The deal breaker with 1725 for me is licorice (+performance) replacing cardamom's role from Invasion Barbare. I only wished cardamom wasn't as prominent as it is in the latter, too - it'd be a literal 10/10 for me then. On my skin IB smells sometimes too spicy. Sartorial is completely different from them and I love it. Probably even more than IB.

How come that people praise niche fragrance as the best smelling ones, while testing them only very few are unique. My best fragrances yet are cheap and designers.
Tested Creed, Tom Ford, Serge Lutens, only 1 or 2 fragrances fromthese lines are nice for me. Especially Creed smells nothing like the price would suggest.

I've not tried Godolphin but it's absolutely nothing like Tuscan Leather. Not even close.

I wrote this about it a while ago:

It opens with a pleasant sweetness like a big box of Turkish Delight, including the icing sugar. But despite that sweetness there’s plenty going on beneath it in the form of gorgeous spices. The typical Turkish Delight might be made with rosewater and it gives suggestions of rose but without what some may see as the downside of it being a floral rose. The spice and subtle smokiness take me to a Turkish market, but not the immediate chaos of one but a side street where you can still feel the business and smell the delights, but with a sense of respite. It’s calming, but at the same time exciting. The leather doesn’t announce itself until a while later, and it never truly becomes a leather scent (Despite the original release of this fragrance being called Turkish Leather) but goes to show that this is a scent that truly takes time to develop. One of the most interesting and fun fragrances I’ve tried.

They both feel very natural to me. Burning Ben’s opening smells like the most luxurious chocolate wrapped around the finest cherries. It’s a very dense fragrance and lasts forever.

Oliver has some weight to it, kind of like biting into a thick slice of ripe fruit. It’s obviously far lighter than some of his other fragrances, but relative to most summer scents it feels more dense. It’s not one that floats off your skin and has decent longevity. I’ve heard good things about Salted Green Mango for a unique summer scent too, but I’ve not tried it.

Any scents that smell like christmas?

I saw that Opium had notes of Mandarin, Oranges, cinnamon, cloves, incense, and myrrh. So I think if you could mix that with some Pine you might have a Christmas scent.

I tried to spray some Opium on one side of a piece of paper and some pine essential oil on another piece of paper, and it didn't really work. Maybe on skin but I can't test that now.

Aside from being as clean (purified) as they are for prayer, male Muslims are expected to refrain from cutting their nails, and trimming their hair and beards. They must also not wear any scent, including deodorant. They have to wear ihram clothing, which is a white, seamless garment. Many also shave their head as this is considered hygienic. Most will wait to shave their heads until after they have finished Umrah or Hajj, as this is a requirement to leave the state of ihram. Female Muslims are also expected to be clean. During the pilgrimage, sexual activity, smoking and swearing are also forbidden.

Hello frens I'm new to fragrances
I'm limiting myself to three options and I want to keep them coherent (so no matter which one I'm wearing, it gives off a particular kind of vibe). I'm also young so ofc my budget is limited.
Since it's cold, I'm normally using D&G The One EDP normally (gonna keep it for nights when it gets warmer) and Versace Eros Flame for dates/nights out.
What would be a good choice for a day/summer perfume? I was thinking about D&G Light Blue intense, but it's kinda generic.
I got Alien for man as a gift and don't like it, and I used to have a*men which I didn't like either.
Recommendations?

I have a few of these, individuel smells like thick synthetic raspberry but fresh at the same time although I wouldn't call it a summer frag, smells like raspberry candy. Haven't really worn it enough to know performance, really nice drydown

The Dreamer has a bit of a harsh opening, like liquorice, dries down quite warm and pleasant tho, average performance and sillage

D&G eu Intense smells like a Nautilus Voyage flanker with worse performance. I don't know if I got a fake bottle or something but I can't smell a thing and it doesn't last, or at least I can't really tell... I think I got a complement once so maybe I'm nose blind to it, not sure...

First set of cheapies arrived. All in 90 Euro from Ebay for the 3. Thought I was going to be burned on the Mont Blanc but it seems to be legit. Very happy with the performance and fragrance thus far. I have no desire in ever picking up Aventus.

Davidoff will do well with the Gf, that after laundry smell goes well with cuddles.>

Shout-out to the anon who recommended Sergio Soldano - fucking 90’s beast, mossy & cool. Look at the absolute state of the bottle. Super cheap. Smells like the back of some mafioso’s mercedes w140.

I’m going to buy 31 fragrances one if each day of the month. Will post more cheapies when they come before i move on to margielas replica line.

Can someone recommend me some niche perfumes that are suitable for 80F/27C+ weather? I've got plenty of mildly warm weather perfumes but I'd be worried about being overbearing with what I do own. Maybe it's autism but I feel like there's a huge jump between 70 degrees to 80 degrees, keep in mind I live in a very humid state. I am curious if you guys think any of the following perfumes are suitable for those kinds of temperatures. I own them and would love to wear them in the summer but I don't know if they're the right choice.

Bracken
Reflection
Ormonde Jayne Man

All I've got right now that I'd be comfortable with in the summer is Salted Green Mango and Emerald isle.
