I got the orange sample set, maybe based on your recommendation. I agree, all the scents lean a bit too feminine for my taste, but at the same time they're all wonderful, and 10ml for $10 is a steal. If nothing else, you'll expand your knowledge just a bit more for the cost of two cups of coffee.

So I've been testing the Acqua Allegorias I got with my recent feminine Turin-shilled decants order. Ended up giving Pamplelune away to my sister as she already wears ELDO Remarkable People that also has a prominent grapefruit note and it was simply to feminine for me. However, this one is great and legit unisex or even masculine-leaning. The most prominent note here is shiso mint that I only smelled in De Bachmakov from The Different Company before (I almost ended up buying a bottle of it last summer). I don't remember everything about De Bachmakov but this Guerlain is a strong contender. Good and really affordable stuff.

these two are very influential fragrances but I don't think there are others that smell alike. almost all other hugely popular fragrances have clones or scents that are almost there. probably la nuit used to have one or more ingredients that got banned and ysl doesn't care or can't replicate a better performance version. i'm sure they know how popular it is, judging by the insane amount of flankers it has, la nuit being also a flanker. also maybe that's simply how a cardamon heavy fragrance can last, realistically. it's the cardamon that makes it what it is, a heavy dose of it. I got some cardamon coffee and it smelled like la nuit

trussardi riflesso has the same vibe and structure, but it's apple not cardamon. not quite there. better performance than la nuit, but it's a trussardi, so not by much.

Don't do clothes unless you plan on changing them out when you wear another fragrance. Wrists/ Hands are nice but the issue is that you have to keep washing them throughout the day and feel like you are stripping it off. The only real place you can spray that matters is the entire circumference of your neck. Maybe if you think you will radiate enough heat then also do your chest. Go heavy on the sprays, always, if you like the scent that is all that matters. Fuck other people, choke them out, make them wheeze, fuck um, you want to assert supremacy with your scent anyway. Make their noses your little fucktoy that you just fuck and suck with your fragrances.

Agree on the bottles (Mugler's always got great bottles)

Aura smells like vanilla wintergreen. Terrible.

Alien Man is...just...safe. Smells "nice". Not good, not bad, just "nice". Considering how in-your-face the original Alien was, and considering how Angel and A*Men both pushed the envelope, I was really disappointed that Alien Man was basically just a less fruity version of Montblanc Individuel with a leather note.

If you can find it, try Mugler's Womanity. That one's very interesting.

Hi /frag/, it's the incense-obsessed anon again. Here's my morning line-up of Japanese incense for today (I tend to start the day with some lighter Japanese sticks and switch over to louder Indian-style stuff later on):
1. Minorien Fu-in Sandalwood (clean, pure, properly damp sandalwood to start the day)
->
2. Shoyeido Moss Garden (pleasantly sweet sandalwood-based stick with whispers of wet leaves and distant campfires) ->
3. Baieido Tokusen Kobunboku (complex sandalwood/aloeswood blend that took me a while to "get" but now that I have, it's super addictive. It reminds me of an old bookcase filled with leather-bound encyclopedias. Will probably burn 2-3 of these 30-minute sticks in a row) ->
4. Minorien Fu-in Aloeswood (like their sandalwood stick, Minorien's aloeswood is a pure, austere representation of the wood. With Japanese aloeswood-based incense both the cost and complexity can go through the roof; this is their "entry-level" stick)
For anyone curious about Japanese incense, I would recommend those first two sticks without reservation. They can be found easily on japanincense.com or Amazon

It’s really annoying to smell a fragrance I really like but not know what it is I like about it. I’m wearing French Lover right now and I ha e no idea what the smell is, but is it galbanum? Is it Angelica? Without knowing what those things smell like it’s difficult to pinpoint. I’ve never smelt oakmoss either, but only through sniffing lots of oakmoss fragrances I’ve got an idea of what it is.

Yeah, it’s a little outdated now I feel. I was lucky enough to try an original formulation of Tuscan and from where it’s come to what it is now is night and day. Not surprised at all. I really cannot comprehend why fruity vanilla scents so sweet that you can diabetes from spraying them where aggressively marketed as 'masculine' over last couple years. You people should get a reality check. This is the least masculine smell in existence. All of your bottles of Layton, Eros, Ultra Male etc could be confused when smelled blindly with some flanker of La Vie Est Belle, Mon Guerlain, Scandal etc if not for absence of some floral accents.

Very different, but it does complete a trio.

PuH is a pretty simple, very old, scent; Yatagan is a hyper-masculine 70s powerhouse; Le 3e Homme, smells like a barbershop fougere, but is a lot creamier with a prominent carnation and geranium in the heart and the drydown is a lot mossier. There's comparatively less sharpness than from a barbershop like Azzaro pH.

Definitely worth getting. It's certainly cheap enough.

>What's the difference between the Sauvage and this
They are very different.

Eau Sauvage is one of Dior's most historically significant men's fragrances, so they dropped the 'Eau' and created a new line that would imply the same level of quality.

In terms of scent, though, they couldn't be more different.
Eau Sauvage is a citrusy green, 1960's style aromatic chypre notable for a large quantity of hedione, which smells like jasmine and is reported to be an aphrodisiac.

Sauvage is a spicy, metallic 2010's style blue fragrance, notable for a large quantity of ambroxan, which smells like the ocean and is reported to be a total compliment-getting beast

A related question:
How do the Eau de Toilette and the Parfum compare?
I love the EdT but its performance is disappointing on my skin. I have also read that the Parfum is a lot closer to what the original was in the 60s.
I can't find it in my area so I've never been able to try it for myself.

Incest of the evening:
>In the painter’s studio, all covered in wood panelling, time seems suspended. Through the big bay window overlooking green altitude meadows, the Northern light pours her powdery rays all over brushes, palettes, tubes, paint pots, sketched canvasses and rags still wet with linseed oil. The air is fragrant with the heady smell of turpentine mixed with lovely wisps of smoke, honey, woods, tobacco and cedar wood.

I think that people should really appreciate finer things in fragrance than massive longevity or projection. There is some beauty in ephemeral things. One of my favorite fragrances is Guerlain Eau de Cologne Imperiale. It lasts about 15-20 minutes but brings me a lot of joy every time I spray it. Absolutely stunning smell that never fails to lift my mood up and I would never wanted it to last longer. Typically better longevity is achieved by throwing some woods and musks into the composition. I really don't care about extra few hours smelling simply like a linear vetiver. I much prefer it to be gone altogether and spray some other, more substantial fragrance without worrying about mixing different scents.

I think there's a time and a place for them, but I do think that very sweet, fruity frags are mostly aimed at newer buyers. Most people don't take out a leather or a heavy musk frag, spray it on their wrist, shove their nose in it, and go "oh that smells great". They may enjoy it if they smell if wafting by on someone who's wearing it in public tho. Sweet, fruity scents lure mall buyers who don't know frags in cause they smell familiar and are easy to digest. Other scents take more time.
