You get a hell of a wacky, cool watch for a little under 200 bucks. Mineral crystal, normal amphibia movement and lume but the face is extremely visible and easy to read far away or in shit light. The indices won’t line up perfectly but the internal bezel feels nice. Also the screws on the top are only cosmetic and will be a hair on the pointy side, not that it bothers me just letting you know. The black extended date window really brings the whole look together for me.
A random quirk of mine is that the tip of my seconds hand is black where most are full orange. Ivan has been known to randomly switch out seconds hands without warning then switch back apparently, as I learned from a fb Vostok group. Scared the shit out of me at first cuz I thought it might mean it’s fake, lel.

Looks to be a 1940's Omega with a 30T2 CS movement in a steel case. There should be a 4 digits reference number on the inner caseback that can provide further info. Don't try to open the caseback at home unless you have a watchmaker's knife and you know what you are doing, a certified local watchmaker (NOT the mall guy) can take care of it for you.
It's not possible to provide a valuation without knowing the diameter of the case w/o the crown and seeing a photo of the the inner caseback and the movement. A closer/higher resolution photo of the dial would be nice, too, but we're looking at north of $500 even if it has a smaller (32-33mm diameter) original case and a non-running but complete movement.
Please don't wind up or "run" it unless it was serviced recently and handle it with care because it likely lacks shock protection due to its age.

You're very welcome.
I would advise against selling it especially if it's a family heirloom, but also because vintage Omegas and 1940-1950's watches in general are quite sought after and prices will probably continue to grow.
If he doesn't want to wear it nor sell it he should store it away safely in a non-damp place out of direct sunlight, putting it by caseback on an unused white soft cotton/silk handkerchief placed in a generously sized wooden drawer free from other items would be the best.
If he wants to sell it then there's ebay, the buyers will ask for the same photos I did so it's worth to get them done before the auction. It's not worth it to get it serviced before selling it because collectors of vintage watches generally prefer to get the work done by their own watchmakers.
If he wants to wear it he should find a certified watchmaker of good repute, might be worth asking if someone knows one in his area on the Omega forums (also another potential site for sale): https://omegaforums.net/forums/vintage-omega-watches-help-discussion-and-advice.23/ If he's lucky then the movement is complete and the watch only needs a general service. That costs about 150-200 euros in Europe, I suspect that it'd be roughly the same in most first world countries. He shouldn't get the dial restored or the case polished, as it would reduce affect its value. A watch of this age is not suitable for everyday wear and should only be worn with care on special "dressed up" occasions. A mechanical watch like this should be serviced every 6-7 years regardless of use, so it's something to calculate with if he decides to wear it.

>> No.15890281

>>15890236
>anything he can do to fuck me with this information?
A lot, actually.
Scammers will claim that a watch with the exact same serial number was stolen from them in a burglary/robbery and attempt to trick or blackmail it out from you by presenting fake or actual police/insurance company reports, providing communications from fake or actual lawyers, making deceptive posts on watch forums and social media and engaging in various attempts to frighten you or denigrate your reputation.
Most likely it's just an overly cautious potential buyer but you should give the same polite answer that the watch is in your legal possession and you see no point in providing more than the reference number.

If I owned a 5k shitter, I'd be terrified of breaking it. But a 50 dollar watch that cost the equivalent of a grand back when it came out? Yeah, I don't mind opening that up at all. Servicing your own watches is a joy, and the tools are all pretty inexpensive.

After a long time wanting to get my self a decent kettle I finally bit the bullet and got my first one a week or so ago. and I'm over the moon with it. I am a fan of Victorinox Swiss army knives already so I when I found they do nice entry level price but incredibly good quality watches I was sold in the brand already.

I've gone for the Fieldforce GMT - just under £350 so not overly dear but makes me feel amazing wearing it out and about. It's 42mm which I feel is perfect size.

I took the steel bracelet off immediately and have a couple of NATO straps which I prefer the look of and will keep the steel strap in mint condition for if and when I want to wear it or disaply it In the box.

I already want to get another entry level price watch and am back to researching again. I feel this is the start of something.

no they didnt make a red one for this model, the salmon one is the closest

there are some red dress watches but they are rare
-hammy jazzmaster thinline H38525771 (more like a dusky mauve red)
-WZ0041DV (more sporty than dress, rare AF and almost unobtanium according to orient-anon)
-SRRY027 (if he can handle it, its a "ladies" model and lug width is only 16mm. But otherwise its actual real dress size and same as mens version)
-maison celadon plum, this is very kino and a true handwound 2 hander but character is very strong

>For the Star Wars fans, there’s the Saga watch line by Japanese brand Citizen. Available in three versions (Classic, Prequel, and Sequel), this line includes watches that are both playful and sleek.
>The Citizen Prequel model is inspired by the Dark Side. On the burgundy red dial are the Jedi Order and the Galactic Republic symbols, with index markers. The dial is also highlighted by a blue line resembling a lightsaber, running across 2 pm and 7 pm.
>The case is made of stainless steel, and the bracelet is a classic mesh. Other featured include the brand’s unique Eco-Drive technology (does not need a battery, as it’s powered by any light source), a date display at 3 o’clock, and a case back that has an image of the iconic diel between Obi-wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker.

Zenith fucking rushed out review units of this watch and they have a ton of pre-production flaws such as the 4:00 INDICATOR BEING APPLIED UPSIDE DOWN. The applied subdials are also slightly misaligned. The centre chronograph seconds hand is not fully centred on the 12:00 indicator.

Of the two colours, the black dial is superior to the white.

The design is too evocative of the Daytona. Zenith already made essentially this *exact* watch in 2019 (same movement, ceramic bezel, etc.) but with a more distinctive design. They currently make a skeletonized version of the watch. They should have just re-released the flat dial version and put in on the El Primero bracelet that has the countersunk links, not this new Oyster rip off.

I can’t believe I’m saying this I prefer the skeletonized version of this watch.

Pic related is the flat dial version from a couple years ago.

Yeah and it seems just right. Before pulling the trigger on it, some days I was really feeling the clean clear face of the standard field force and some days the kid in me really wanted to go for the busy and filled face of the chrono - GMT ticks both those boxes and now I have it on I know I made the right choice

This is the problem though, I feel an urge to get some more peices in now. Some smart and clean minimal and some fun and full of moving parts and chronos.

This could be end up expensive

It's supposed to create the optical illusion that the left and right dials are sitting on top of the centre dial, so they're meant to be positioned absolutely flush with one another with no space between them. I believe that usually, the three sub-dials are a single Mickey Mouse-shaped piece (as they clearly are on >>15891085, see also pic related) but Zenith has made a point of advertising on this new model that they are three separate pieces that are applied to the dial individually. I'd had a look at "Citizen NY0040" There may be some interchangeability between some of the 8XXX series movements by miyota. Someone more knowledgeable than me could probably tell you.

The movements are cheap like £15 so if don't get the right one it wont be the worst in the world. You might need to pick up some tools to remove the hands and replace them.

the dimensions of the movement will be different and likely much smaller. You will need a spacer ring so it doesnt move and go wonky. You will also need a way to secure the movement down against back of the dial since it would be thinner as well, so it doesnt just drop out. the stem position wouldnt match also
citizen has ecodrive version of similar models but they dont sell their ecodrive movements so you wont get an answer there

The Milgauss is an poseur dog of a watch from Rolex that is meant to be extremely shock resistant and anti-magnetic...yet is only tested by Rolex itself to 4000 gauss and has a metallic hairspring that objectively speaking WILL magnetize and deform if exposed to enough magnetism or shock. Meanwhile, nearly every single modern Omega watch has a silicon hairspring that is completely a-magnetic (not just anti-magnetic), will literally never deform, and can be worn inside an MRI at 15,000+ gauss and survive. And, you don't have to take Omega's word for it because they willingly subject all of their watches to an independently regulated Swiss government test to confirm this.

So, get a Milgauss if you want a relatively cheap steel Rolex but if you're considering it for its technological bonafides (which Rolex markets it on) then you're much better served by a Railmaster or literally any other new Omega model. Pic related.

Not true. A lighter watch doesn't automatically make it better. Many people like a heavier watch, especially with something expensive. Other than that it really isn't that much different to the steel Rolex uses but costs more to produce.

>>15891926
The Aquanaut is a lot more casual and is designed as an everyday wear. The 'grenade-like' textured dial a lot more pronounced than the Nautlius with one hell of a nice gradient. The sold single piece case on the Aquanaut is something you overlook until you hold it in your hand, it's robust but of obvious high quality.

Why would you put a quartz movement in an auto?

Auto cases are much thicker and heavier so they can contain a brick of a movement, not to mention autos in general are far more expensive than their quartz equivalents.

Plus, if you're keeping the dial, it looks really tacky to have "automatic" on the dial with a quartz movement proving it wrong every second.

Watches these days are heavy on purpose. Companies realised that instead of making a quality product, they can just make the case a few mm thicker and leave it feeling like "quality" to retards who understand nothing about materials.

Titanium does have some issues, but there are alloys that are just as scratch resistant as SS these days.
