That's a tough conundrum. If you know you're out of the city in 2-3 years, then you definitely shouldn't buy now, but that also means you shouldn't buy a watch now either. Put the money of a watch towards the house in 3 years time in the new city.

We don't know what will happen economically, so you should play it safe that way. Honestly, that's what I'd do...forget the watch, focus on the business aspect until you're secure. 500 can go a long way if invested instead of lost on a watch.

But it gets back to the point of my seiko5 dying. I just want something to replace it. Disposable is ok because of the housing thing, which is why I was looking at the orient maestro. Compliments per $ seems decent, and being 28 now vs 35 in 7 years will be a huge change. I do feel old now, but by then I expect to have housing and wife figured out for the long term. That's a massive deal there.

Well, your first choice of the Orient looked good, as well as the other pics you posted. For what you are looking for (i.e. disposable watch that looks good) those are fine choices. You have to remember that you waded into a pool with autists who debate over every detail of watches new and historical, so perhaps the extra attention to detail is not only unnecessary but also off the point.

I really do think though that you should try doing a blanket search on Amazon for 'open-heart' watches. They'll really fulfill what you need at an extremely low budget. That's what I'd recommend, anyway.

its a very (very.) basic watch, but good for what it is
that is not the stock strap, the stock strap is terrible and not worth using
if you are going for the black dial you should get the bracelet one instead (809K1 instead of 809K2)
the crown is small and recessed and its not fun to adjust (and i have pretty small fingers too)
7s26 is not very accurate, and they often run like 25s fast

I'm looking for a classic everyday sport watch.
I'm looking for the most accurate automatic watch, that I can just wear everyday and not worry about (so good anti-magnetism, WR, tough).
Ideally an Explorer or Aqua Terra, but one isn't available (or 7-8K) and I'm wondering if 4K as a first "luxury" watch is worth it and if it will retain its value.
I have an 18cm wrist, Day would be nice but not obligatory.

I took a dip in the river/falls with my watch 2 weeks ago. After probably around 3~4 hours of cumulative soak time, it's now full of water spots/stains. I read that those are just mineral deposits so I decided to just wear it and hope it'll just go away by itself. Obviously, I thought wrong.

Any recommendations on how to clean it? I've only tried vinegar-damped microfiber (avoiding gaskets as much as possible) and it doesn't seem to work.

I would like to purchase a Vostok Anphibia from Meranom however they are asking for £20 delivery price for a £50 wristwatch

'old soviet watches' is a very broad term, if you lurk around you can get some pretty interesting pieces for next to nothing but theres a lot of actual garbage.
what you have there is what I'd already consider extra careful treading area, as pobeda(assume thats what I'm looking at they have some wild dials) slowly moved to fashion watch shitters after the 60s, generally quality of the movements and designs went downhill
that said though still an interesting brand and they have a lot of meme dials if thats your thing, been personally looking to cop one of the dressier ones with textured dials. but I keep being outbid or everything is beyond saving.

I've been wondering about this myself. Are high-beat movements really this much of a problem, or have these issues been solved in 'the modern day'? I mean, Rolex beats at 36,000, right? Modern Zenith too...would they still have these problems 50 years after the El Primero was invented?

Zenith has not modified the movement in any way from the 50 year old design, or if they have then they haven't tried to fix the issue, so the problem still persists. It's still my understanding that it's much less of an issue if you stay on top of servicing it every 5 years.

1)convert your home time to 24hr format
2)move your home city to the inner world-time bezel to the corresponding 24hr time
3)now read the 24 hr time for the other city you want to know the time for

so for example
now that watch says 10oclock
lets just assume you are in sydney, now its 10am in the morning

now, sydney is already aligned to against 1000 hours (24hr format) in the world time bezel (so this is already step 2)
if its now 1000 hours in sydney, its now approximately 0220 for Cairo (2:20am)

Spring drives can theoretically go a very very long time without service, so long as nothing actually breaks.

The regulator works by adjusting the speed of the hands with an electromagnetic brake.
So even if the mechanical parts of the movement wear down significantly, the watch will adjust for the loss of accuracy.

The movement has only been around for a few years so it's hard to know. I would assume that they are very robust and will last for a long time. The cell will have to be replaced every 10 years or so. I guess the lifecycle could be shorter if the movement uses much more power than other ecodrive models. As far as capacitors go, they should not be a problem for a long time. The capacitor plague is over, and citizen will be using high spec parts for this module so i would expect it to last 25 to 30 years before it a cap even thinks about failing.
