Well, it wouldn’t look that bland, but maybe I’ll think it over now that you point it out. The modern calatrava design is really elegant and I love it (5196 and 5227 for different reasons), but I would love something with that case with a simple Roman dial (and circular seconds marker rather than calatrava-cross seconds)

Patek’s basic calatravas of all generations are pretty spectacular though. It’s when you get to complications they either do something really unique and interesting (e.g. 5059 seen here, a watch that is ugly on first glance and then becomes beautiful), or they empty their complication balls haphazardly all over the dial and it looks ass.

When you get down to that level of simplicity, it takes a trained eye or an autismal watchfag to be able to tell the difference. A supple case, an interesting crown, actually blued hands, enamel dial, well dritributed proportions of secondary things like a seconds hand or a date window?

A PP Calatrava or Patrimony might strike the eye of an unknowing normo, but could you convince them the difference of several (hundreds) of thousands in comparison to the DW?

tl;dr wear the watches YOU like

It’s interesting how instead of using a lume material to make the dial they made it out of a yellow plastic and applied lume on top of it. Also the chapter ring isn’t lumed.

Yes, they have been called a watchmakers watch brand, due to how highly respected they are in the industry for their history and quality.

The Reddit watch I hate though are the Grand Seiko Snowflake (for richer redditors, most seem to be 18), a decent idea ruined by a mediocre date window and that awful power reserve. Plus the sharpness against snow doesn’t entirely work. The dial seems beautiful but the design around it just ruins the show

Actually the 5600 (the one you posted) is better because you can view the countdown clock and thr current time on the same screen. Get that.
The countdown timer will store whatever you set it to so say you have hour sessions, at the beginning of the session you just start the countdown timer and it will beep after an hour. You can also store up to 5 different alarm times.

JLC is essentially above reproach. Pretty much every top watch brand either uses JLC movements or has used them in the past. They have iconic models in the Master series and Reverso, make extremely complicated high end pieces, and they are not a victim of their own success. Their prices have stayed fairly reasonable compared to Patek, Vacheron and Rolex raising their prices like there’s no tomorrow (with the exception of the Master Ultra Thin, which has gotten considerably more expensive). Perhaps best of all you won’t have to suck the dick of some faggot egomaniac AD to get a watch.
