I’ve only tried Cape Heartache. It opens with a gorgeous smoky pine, a real earthy feel to it, and a sweet strawberry note to liven things up. Upon my first spray and maybe for an hour or so I loved it. The problem is the strawberry note is very synthetic and that sweetness lasts for the duration and as a result becomes too cloying and eventually I got sick of it. It’s so promising at first but that strawberry note completely kills it for me.

Tested out Xerjoff's Fiero today, and I'm underwhelmed. I'm looking for a citrus+mint duo, and it's there, it's kind of nice actually, but I won't spend that kind of money to smell like a landrine. Shame that Eau Sauvage lasts about 30 minutes, and I suspect that fiero will last a bit longer than that due to it's minty-woody base, but not by much.

Patrician samples selection. I stand at a similar sanple/full bottle ratio. Don't you sometimes feel overwhelmed by all the samples? 1ml is a lot and 20-ish of cold weather 1ml samples will easily be sufficient to never touch your bottles for entire winter. Maybe it's my autism but it makes me feel quite bad desu but I enjoy trying new scents severely. What's your experience? Do you care about these things? I currently have about twenty-five samples (if not more) and I haven’t sprayed from a bottle except for work in over a month. And I have thirty fucking bottles. And another coming tomorrow. I’m an idiot. But also, I’m very happy I switched to sampling instead of buying bottles because it’s really the only way to explore perfumery.

Diptyque are generally very natural/solid/wearable and only slightly interesting.

To expand since I was mass replying, tuberose is generally a strong/heady white floral (notwithstanding the actual fragrance concentration) and not for everyone. You might have better luck exploring others (jasmine, gardenia, honeysuckle, lily etc.) The only problem is that these can be highly feminine. If you liked Tam Dao, myrtle is a note used in it that is often used in more masculine frags inspired by Southern Italy (e.g. Tom Ford or AdP's Mitro di Panarea). Serge Lutens also has some good florals. L'Artisan has a few that can be found cheap.

I'd say just pick a house you enjoy and explore their florals, happy testing!

Thanks. I enjoy En Passant a lot so I’m not averse to wearing that kind of thing (I don’t own it, but I’ve sampled it a couple of times), and the same goes for Lys Mediterranee. I’ve been wanting to sample Acqua Di Sale so maybe that will give me a better idea of what Myrtle smells like.

On the subject of Lutens, my SOTE is Un Bois Vanille. Not as sickeningly sweet as I expected. The coconut lasted minutes, but the almond is wonderful. It’s gourmand, but a very subtle one.

My fav experience wearing Eros was when I picked up a takeaway wearing 3 sprays of it in February, waiting in the lounge for my food to cook, some boomer and his wife come in, having reserved a table. He's like 4 or 5 feet away from me, must have smelt me and looks at me in disgust, my lingering scent having ruined his evening plans.

It's not near as dark as the reviews paint it out to be. Mossey, with some vague florals and a dusting of powder. There's patch and sandlewood in there, and you can smell a vanilla esque guerlinade in there also, it jumps out at me now. When I first got it, hedione or something l like that was really grabbing my attention, but I don't notice it now near as much as that mossy guerlinade thing it has going on. It feels more mature than antaeus, not as loud, feels like it goes with tweed jackets, sweaters, and dark acadamia stuff, like harry poppers teacher would wear. It was a fun successful blind buy, and cheap.

I'd really like to try En Passant. Lilac is my mother's favourite and grows around here. Lys I actually found cloying and I didn't even enjoy it on my SO as much as I thought I would. I still have a generous sample I'll save for the late Spring when it gets warm.

Sorry that my last post came off as 'teachy'. I didn't know where you were coming from. Other anons might have some good reccs that are more experienced but I've been generally out of the frag game lately. One random frag that just came to mind I've been hearing a lot of good things about though is Bruno Fazzolari's Au Dela Narcisse.

So I'm kind of trying to get to around 10 staples that I just stay with and get new bottles of. So far this is what I'm going with as far as cold weather (although I will use club de nuit in summer). depends to what you're comparing to. I own it, first time I ever wore it I felt like it was insanely strong, probably the novelty. I wear it rarely, but sometimes I spray my forearm when at home and it projects quite a bit, I get constant wafts of this airy citrus woodiness. check it another day and use a fragrance you know for reference, smell wise, to make sure your nose it's ok.

-Halloween Man X
-Versace for him
-Fahrenheit
-Club de nuit intense

and then the final 4 will be
-some other old weird / cheap pick, maybe lagerfield classic, or roger & gallet open black for 12 bucks
-tommy bahama saint barts, sounds good and seems to be the most liked cheap tropical
- I need some other summer scent here
- Zoologist, either cold weather or hot weather, if it's hot weather then the previous pick can be cold.
