The OP41 is junk in general. The double batons at 3/6/9 look incredibly ugly and cheap. It's too large and the large size does not bring anything, it doesn't look good for its size. This bad QC is icing on the cake. It would be unacceptable in a $300 watch, it's insulting in a $5000 watch.
I almost feel like Rolex makes the OP shittier on purpose to force you to buy something else.

It comes down more to materials and colors than brand. Women only seem to notice a few watches brands like Cartier or Bulgari, the former of which is genuinely a cool brand and the latter of which is more of an afterthought in horology. If you want attention from a woman, maybe wear a solid 18k gold watch of your choice. Either that or wear a Timex and just be attractive.

I had this same discussion with a boomer in my apartment complex. He has a Sub Date and complained that “women don’t ever notice his watch”. Women don’t give a shit about your watch, that’s a man thing. It’s like if women asked which brackets and ring and necklace brands will attract men. “I hope all the men notice my Bulgari bracelets and $500 perfume!” No, I noticed that you have a fairly cute ass that looks good in those pants.

For all people say about having tasteful watches, etc. most people don't care about your watch and don't even notice it most of the time. Women are only going to be interested by watches that are really bright colors, or heavily skeletonized or something.

Then it feels worse when you get the IWC Portugieser and you realize it's not worth it.
Sometimes it is worth it, but not often enough in the watch world where all these companies are basically just blowing smoke up your ass and hoping you never realize you're in a very small bubble constantly trying to one-up other autists when many people outside the bubble don't even know how to wear a watch.

Any recommendations for a cheap alternative to the Rolex Explorer 114270 while I save up for it? I was thinking of the Seiko SUR311 or the Tissot Gentleman, but they're a little bigger than the Exporer (38mm and 40mm, respectively).

Start a company that does it cheaper if it's so easy.

It takes many dozens of hours of skilled labor to finish a movement.
Perlage, Geneva striping, polishing screw sinks, polishing bevels, polishing screwheads, black polishing various small parts, ...

And that's just the finishing, that's not even counting the highly skilled labor to tune and assemble various sub-parts and entire movements.

And that's without counting external finishing (dial, indices, case, ...).

Hi,

Thanks for your interest about our brand.

The movement of our Aquascaphe plans an accuracy of 10-15sec/day. Our watchmakers set the movement on 5 different positions. We're including inside the box of the watch a Witschi ticket prooving the accuracy of the watch.

Feel free if you need anything else.

Best,
The BALTIC Team

It is worth $20k because people buy them. The general rule of thumb is that you’re paying for high quality hand finishing on any watch over $15,000 barring any precious metals, diamonds, or extreme complications. This doesn’t mean the whole thing will be hand finished. Patek Calatravas have quite a bit of machine finishing on them, but Lange Saxonias tend to have more hand finishing.

Whether it’s “worth” it or not is a juvenile argument. You might as well argue whether a Rolls Royce is worth it, or a mansion. If you want a value proposition then buy a Casio and fuck off.

Tons of watches that cost $20k or more retail have no hand finishing.
But almost no watches under $15k have hand finishing.

If you want hand finishing at any price point, you have to do some research.

For instance: the basic Royal Oak (15500) and the basic Overseas (4500) are about the same price around $20k.
The Royal Oak has an entirely machine-finished movement, while the Overseas has a Geneva Hallmark-finished movement (i.e. there is very extensive hand finishing of the movement, absolutely Lange tier).

The problem of rigidity has been addressed by making the case, not out of conventional watchmaking materials, but rather, a high-tech cobalt alloy. The motion works and hands have been suppressed into the movement so that they lie on the same plane as the going train, and the sapphire crystal is a whisper-thin 0.2mm.

Everything about it is bad. The concept of a 2mm watch is already worthless, it's too thin to be usable.

Rather than spend all that time making "teh thinnest watch evar!!!", they should've just made a thin watch that looked good. That's far more of a technical challenge than "lol we'll just make the watch face 5mm wide to make enough room", and leaves you with a usable watch at the end of it.
