15821961 No.15821961 [Reply] [Original]

This thread is for the well dressed man and those seeking to improve their dress by exploring colors, patterns, textures and other styles while appearing more mature, elegant and refined.

>What is “sprezzatura”?
Required viewing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_QG4lTMjWtY

Required reading: https://parisiangentleman.co.uk/2017/02/24/how-obsession-with-sprezzatura-can-kill-the-sprezzatura/

>Do I have to be European to wear this style?
Absolutely not. Anyone can wear this as long as they are confident and don’t care what people think. You should be dressing for yourself, not for others. Is this style more common in Italy and other Mediterranean countries? Absolutely. But you could wear this wherever you are.

>How is this different than Trad/Ivy/Prep?
Whereas the /TIP/ threads favor classic styles and tailoring, wider fits and more drape, Mediterranean and modern menswear favors slimmer cuts, tailored closer to the body to accentuate and flatter your body. Slim fit is allowed and in many cases encouraged.

>Where should I start?
Start with sport coats and mix and match with trousers. Experiment with colors and patterns. Don’t be afraid of color. This isn’t business style, where bland conformity is the norm. We want to be colorful, and experiment with fabrics. Wear linen, wool, cotton, anything you want.

This guy's clothes are alwaysvery nice in themselves, but I never like his fits. He looks like a semi sleazecore douche. He wears too many accessories and combined with the very groomed beard/haircut it looks like he's trying too hard. In this picture alone:
>watch
>sunglasses
>3 (THREE) fucking bracelets
>shirt cuffs pulled out, unbuttoned and crumpled
>busy patterned pochet
>shirt collar flap not tucked in

The colour combination on the pants, shirt and jacket is beautiful, though I doubt he can close it properly. If he'd worn just the shirt, pants and jacket with the watch and some other pochet this fit would be absolutely sprezz. As of right now this is top tier pitti peacocking. In short he is absolutely not sprezz.

anyone got any experience with putting button cuffs on a pair of trousers? im not happy with the cuffs ive got on mine and im considering doing it myself

>> No.15823011

>>15822975
Not really, but it should consist of making a button hole and sewing on a button, noagoc by far. Whether you sew by hand or with a machine, practice the holes on a similar piece of fabric first, those are easy to mess up. They will be covered by the cuffs later of course, so if something goes wrong it shouldn't be that bad.

You don't see the stitch from the outside if you take care to pick only one or two threads. Regular pick stitch will be visible like a machine stitch on the inside. To avoid this I do the pick stitch on the other side, too, so that the thread is hidden between the leg and the cuff.

>> No.15823332

>>15823286
The rounded part with the button hole is a pain to sew, so it's easier to only take off the topmost part of the collar.
Copy this to a cardboard as a template, add seam allowance that allows you to iron the seams easily, e.g. 1cm, cut the fabric, and sew the layers together.
Your collar is inside out now. Iron the seams open (as if you had an open book in front of you), so that they look clean later.
After ironing you can cut the seam allowance down to 5mm. This is roughly the distance of the top stitching to the edge, so the seam allowance is not visible in the collar once it's finished.

That's formal though and meant to look that way. Sprezz is influenced by the weather somewhat, so if you're wearing white and light blue in a cold rainy country it will look out of place and not natural. You would have to wear slightly darker colors but not a full formal style suit. Of course, you can switch to the lights in Summer. The Med sprezz look is that way because of the warmer climate and not because that's what sprezz is. It's also a lot harder to work darker color schemes into a more casual aesthetic as most people will associate it right away with formality and business.

Colder climate sprezz such as in England during the cooler months you're likely going to have to incorporate greys, dark navy and even dark greens.

>Is the navy blazer still the default first/only blazer?

No. because this isn't TIP. The jackets you are posting moistly align with TIP/well dressed/formal/dressed to look that way. Hence why sprezz is a lot harder than it might seem.

Thick patterned tweed/wool sports coats will always give a purposely dressed up if not old fashioned look for some of them. Especially if you pair them with dark colored pants and other formalities such as a tie.

You would need the pants to be a less formal color and remove the tie, leave a button or 2 open and a pocket square or something along those lines.

Single color tweed jackets look a lot more modern and are much easier to work with.

A shirt and tie combo is going to be easier in a lighter cotton sports jacket, of course it's dependant on seasons and weather. Patterned tweed sports jackets should be added after you have become comfortable with the basics.

Single color or slight patterned cotton/linen/silk spots jackets/blazers are in my opinion better starting jackets as they look much more casual.

The fact that you want to wear it with jeans means you;re heading in the direction of some reddit tier TIP cringe.

If you want to wear something casual get a cotton blazer, add pants and a shirt. I would avoid jeans altogether.

>>15829026
OK so Canadian and cold weather. I'd still layer with lighter items until I can work things like that into a casual fit.

>>15829150
Orphaned suit jackets are only obvious when they are that shiny type obvious suit jacket. A single color tweed/wool jacket will never look like an orphaned suit jacket because, well, it's not.

Look at the pictures you posted and now look at this one. This is dark color to fit into a colder climate and it is tweed. And yet it looks like a relaxed every day fit and not somebody who is trying to dress up for a wedding.

To further highlight how tweeds can look, the example here really separates how different a sprezz look is to a TIP look. It's night and day.

Yes, the left is the typical Sunny climate "Med" look, but if the blazer was dark charcoal, the shirt white and pants light grey wool, it would have the same aesthetic but be suited to a colder climate. Nor would it look like a suit or formal despite the darker color scheme.

>apply diluted alcohol to remove the wax
>apply the moisturizer
>leave it there overnight
>apply the layers of wax according to your shine and protectionism preference
Personally I never moisturized my shoes, but it is something to look out for. Doing this once a year or 18 months should be plenty unless you drop alcohol on them or some shit like that.

>>15830775
This is nicer, but if the pants here were paired with the above jacket and shirt it would also look just as good.

This is why there can be a lot of work behind the scenes of looks and fits because one wrong item can throw the outfit right out of sync.

>>15830923
Only based on the guy having a good body and I think you need a good body for almost all fits. Not a skin tight pants and steroid boobs sticking out sex core goon look, but just a good solid foundation with a chest ideally 8 to 10 inches larger than your waist.

>>15831840
You'd be surprised (maybe) how lighter jackets can often be a lot easier to work with and to create a casual yet elegant look. Dark colors have the habit of taking you into dressed up formal territory, even if you don't see that. It's the association most people have. Light colors rarely do that. It's why in crazy, stupid, love, Goslings green suit was often raved about as great looking.

The jacket you have there is roughly the same shade as that green and looks fine to me. Much better than the TIP style ones posted.

>I should clarify that dont want to wear it with Jean's but I only have a few chinos right now and a pair of dress pants so itd be nice to have the option to

But as above, the jeans to me are going to throw the fit off. There are sadly no short cuts to getting a great fit. When I think of jeans with anything smart on top, I think of some comic book guy, fat, has a print t-shirt, suit jacket on top and jeans below and thinks he looks classy. Nope. I say avoid.

>I'm starting to think that o should just get some nice trousers and shirts and go from there instead of getting a jacket.

I think yes, always start with a good foundation. Once you have that you can try a jacket to compliment it. If you're buying jackets and trying them on with jeans or whatever, they will always look bad on you and you'll end up having to get the basic right anyway in the long term.

This to me highlights why single colors are much easier to work with and look better overall. I got this and a few other Brioni blazers during some sales. I’ll have to get it tailored of course since it’s OTR, but the measurements are all very close already. Might also get some suits made on Savile Row once this corona is all over, love the fits that David Gandy / Connery Bond do with 3 piece suits, though I admit that leans closer to TIP.

With this jacket I’m thinking white Gurkha pants and black button up. Some bright color of pocket square depending on how I feel that day, and thinking about Tie/Scarf combos. Is my line of thinking fairly sound for someone newish to sprezz? If it helps, I have dark Italian features.

Used to be known as one of the premier meanswear shops in the world, up there with Kiton and others. A few years back they brought on an absolute clown as creative director who tried to turn them into Gucci and basically killed the brand. Brioni was the joke of the menswear world for a bit. They've since fired the guy and moved on and that was a few years ago, but I don't care enough to see how they've recovered.

Craftsman Clothing is pretty good, specifically for a more casual cotton look. For <200 it's pretty good value.
Ribonacci does really good ones but in the 200-400, depending if you get cotton or wool.
That's just a difficult price range because at that point just go MTM or bespo for the same price

Depends on your location and city. I live in a mid-sized American city, but despite it's size we have 6 or so really good MTM shops and some other do full bespoke.
When people mention "bespoke", most probably mean made to measure. The difference is MTM uses premade patterns that are altered to your measurements, versus bespoke making a new pattern to your body. Both let you pick materials, details and colors.
What city by the way?

you are retarded. The few inches you gain will not offset your damaged ego, your lack of self-respect and your personality and character defects. You are paying to undergo a horribly painful procedure that will leave you essentially crippled for the rest of your life and unable to do simple pleasures such as hiking, jumping or climbing. Getting limb lengthening surgery makes you no better than a demented tranny.
Cope with your size and improve yourself through natural means. If you go through with the surgery you will 100% regret it.

It’s something I’m on the fence about, though it’s a little less barbaric these days than you put it. I’m 5’9” right now, so I’m not super short, but I’m insecure because women I’ve been with have put me down over my height. My dad is 6’2” and would berate me as a teenager for being shorter, always accusing me of doing drugs or not keeping in shape or staying up late (none of those are true but I did stay up late a lot only after my growth plates fused). So yes there is some trauma and no this won’t fix it.

I know you’re being harsh and calling me a retard but I can also tell you’re concerned for me as an anonymous person, which is the only reason you would have typed this all out. So I really do appreciate it, it’s interesting to hear another person call me out.

5 shirts

2 pairs of shoes but you can get by with 1
How much you spend depends on what you get, the quality, used or new, etc. look into capsule wardrobes for a basic idea of where to start.
If you can don't buy everything at once. Your taste will change. Get items a few or one at a time and slowly gather more and more. I'd start with a couple shirts, one pair of trousers, a sport coat and shoes.
Do not cheap out on the shoes. They are the most important item you will wear when it comes to comfort and health. Ill-fitting cheap shoes will wreck your spine.
