Is DeMarco core dead?

>> No.15820493

I sometimes see dudes still dressing that way but most of them are in their late 20s or 30s. He still influences the 2010s in a big way though and is one of the reasons why baggy clothes/vintage etc. was/still is cool

>> No.15820499

What is demarco core? I lnow vaguely what it it is but whats the exact uniform? I assume those type of people just dress in baggier versions of tthat uniform this decade

it’s not dead per say, but has evolved

Went on to influence the general "Indie" aesthetic that is present still in a lot of youth culture.

To be fair, demarco core back when it was popular was basically the indie aesthetic of its day

>> No.15821257

It's still around, but certainly not as prevalent as it was in the mid-2010s. There's nothing I hate more in fashion than the indie trying hard to make it look like you arent trying

rolled up loose/baggy pants (typically denim or dickies), distressed t-shirt, and a jacket ur dad would have worn in 1992. optional are the baseball caps (not for everyone) and any kind of sneaker really , typically vans but also the retro looking adidas, reebok, even doc martens etc. and everything listed above is clearly second hand and faded or tattered. basically what would have been normie wear in the 80s or 90s is coopted

it became so popular partly bc of the ease of access, u can find most of the stuff any time you walk into a thrift store, the whole idea is that it was cheap and utilitarian. it was kind of like a social signaling deal too. i was going to a lot of DIY/basement shows 2013 and onward and it was like the uniform of indie/diy/alternative/whatever

i think it's still very popular but as others have said it's simply evolved. dickies and carhartt are hugely in demand rn and i think that was entirely catapulted by demarco's workwear aesthetic. i mean really he kind of just became the face of something that existed before him, he represented the next step of the thrifting hipster stereotype of the 2000s, and now people are selling 'vintage' t-shirts on instagram for $300

I miss it to be honest. I'm 24, 25 next month and I always feel on the edge of millenial and zoomer culture. The early/mid 2010s indie scenes are the only ones I feel like I got to properly participate in at it's height.

I missed out on the 2010 proper brooklyn hipster stuff (cringe as it was) because I was trying too hard to be normie. I just about caught the transitionary stuff that gets posted on tumblr nostalgia threads here - when landfill indie was at it's peak here in the UK. But 80s/90s revivalism Demarcocore was the look when I was at uni and going to loads of gigs and festivals.

I don't identify with anything zoomer at all. 00s revivalism sucks. Some of us had to pretend to like it the first time. Synthetic materials suck. Nothing zoomers say or do is remotely interesting or dangerous.

I know all post-internet subcultures are hollow but at least with the 2010s indie scene there was a nod at trying to find something honest and lost, implied in the thrifting and rejection of the sterile post 9/11 mainstream fashion.

I feel you completely

I’m 24 too

I’ve just quit my generation

I just wear what I want and enjoy wearing what no one else wears.

Being outside the herd has given me more life and power
I feel more like a unique self and king of myself and this world.

I’m going to start a cult of friends like no one else. To transcend society, generation, and everything

Life is what we make it

I know what I love. And most people aren’t it. I don’t give a fuck and I’ll make my kingdom on this earth no matter how small it starts and no matter how different it is from everyone else and whatever they think about it or do about it

Side note I think the media monopoly is to blame for what’s happened to most people.I’ve seen a lot of wonderful minds get eaten the past 2 years

This, I totally get you.
We were kinda late to fully experience the hipster thing but way too old to be into the zoomer tik tok type of thing.
Well at least I lived a bit the hipster thing by going to a bunch of music festival/local shows between 2013-2019

On another note, the punk scene between NYC and Chicago between 2012 and now was at it's best it's been since the 80s. Maybe even better. You cuspers did get that.

I will say I got to experience the whole punk and post punk 10s revival and that was awesome. With regards fashion you can make fun of the really try hard elements of demarcocore but mid 10s indie fashion in general was in such a good place. The handlebar moustache and ultra skinny jeans hipster was dead and the xan addicted e-boy was yet to be born. Well, they existed but they were still just weird emo revivalists on soundcloud anyway.

Bandcamp was at its peak relevance and life was good.

The curse of the early zoomer

>> No.15824009

Just about. Still there a little bit but art school kids have already moved onto Y2K revival (nu metal jeans, bustwave etc.)
Really weird internet dwellers have already moved onto trying to resurrect the MySpace/mid 2000s era, though that doesn't necessarily translate into fashion sense atm
