BDC is overpriced in its Parfum form, it’s actually pretty good for a big designer scent, but you’re overpaying for that one.

My issue with Creed isn’t the scent, just that they’re all overpriced. ADG Profumo is by far the best there when you factor in value for money. I can’t be bothered with a numerical scale because it’s Christmas and you might like them more than me. I hope you enjoy them.

Home from my parents. My dad complained a lot when I sprayed Bengale Rouge. I normally sit at home alone sniffing my wrists so I don’t know how strong it is. Apparently he could smell it in the room after I left. Maybe I won’t be buying this after all. Tobacco Rose was utterly divine too, and I did a tiny spray of Angelique because my mum was curious and I really like it, although it wasn’t a big enough spray to really judge, but it seemed nice.

So I saw people suggesting to buy samples from the inner circle of the beginner's fragrance flowchart >>15808457, but I wasn't able to find a site that even came close to letting me order a bunch of specific samples because none had the ones I wanted. Do I have to buy them all in different places or am I looking at the wrong sites? Any other advise for getting started? I'd try to look around on eBay personally. If the seller has a high enough score and high feedback I wouldn't hesitate to buy from them. They have samples more readily available than most websites, though shipping might be a bitch. I quickly checked a couple on eBay and could see Eau Sauvage, Beau de Jour, Egoiste, Bvlgari Black, Dior Homme and Encre Noire readily available. I'm sure they'd probably also have the others. Might be different depending on where you live but check that.

Stores will have Dior and Chanel available to try since they're the most common designers though sampling depends on how rona is where you're at in regards to stores being open and being able to sample. You'd probably at least have to ask to try the scent. Personally I dislike sampling in store since other scents are in the air and there's not as much time to sit with the scent and develop my thoughts on it, though it is free.

Trying Papillon’s Salome and it’s like a floral Kouros, but the pissiness of a vintage batch I’ve tried. It’s far from unpleasant however, it’s more well rounded than Kouros on first impression, less “piercing” and quite smooth. I think the lack of citrus and aldehydes stop it from having the urinal smell people often talk about. Early days so I can’t really give full thoughts. I don’t think this will be one I buy but it’s made a good first impression.

bougue mem- its actually nice, but i dont thinks its a holy grail like everyone felates it to be. Kinda surprised how much of a soft boi perfume it came across as.
ds amber teutonic- wholly meh, i was looking for a big blast of coniferous goodness, but it was really muted all around

Why do people recommend this shit so much?

It starts with a really strong cinnamon smell that mostly fades after 5 minutes. Then it has what I can best describe as a sweet mossy smell. I feel girly wearing it, it fucking sucks. Glad i only got a test and not the entire bottle

I’ve tried all of the Papillon scents once except Bengale Rouge, which I’m very familiar with. I feel like Angelique and Tobacco Rose are the most wearable by far. Bengale Rouge, despite me enthusing about it enormously, is actually pretty sweet. The others I need to spend more time with, but they’re very punchy and I never really felt when I was wearing them that I could imagine wearing them to go to the pub.

They’re all very nicely blended, all have a good progression and perform very well so in a more objective sense I could say they’re brilliantly well made, but I don’t see myself buying any. Yet.

Personally I prefer the female set, although I tend to think they blur the gender boundary more than things like Tom Ford Private Blend, which is apparently unisex. If you can justify it then get all 12, but with En Passant, Carnal Flower, and Portrait of a Lady you’ve got three modern classics that are well worth trying.

It’s really nice, my third favourite. The opening gives me similar feelings to Etruscan Water. That’s not to say they smell the same, but give a similar vibe. Fresh, bright citrus, but with a green, earthy undercurrent. It’s on the drier side, perhaps almost “dusty”. It settles down and the brightness disappears and even though it’s not listed it almost seems a little aldehydic. It’s on the cusp of being animalic, but never skanky or unpleasant. I’ve been quite drunk the last three days so I’ll have to spend more time with them all. It’s been a long time since I tried Spicebomb so I can’t give an accurate reply, but I bought a bottle of Extreme after trying both. Extreme has a big hit of vanilla which makes it much sweeter (which isn’t to say it’s an extremely sweet scent, just sweeter than the original) so it’s difficult to say what you’ll prefer without knowing your tastes. Extreme lasts much longer and has stronger projection however, so I can tell you that much.

Angelique by Papillon is the SOTD. Hmmmmmm. It’s a pleasant floral but with a lot of rich, buttery orris that stops it floating off, but that richness can be a bit too rich for my taste. It’s very safe, very clean, perfectly pleasant, a touch sweet, but doesn’t blow me away.
