The bracelet is great, very well made and strong. The centre links are a bit wider than on the Rolex oyster, but again, if you don't care about Rolex that doesn't really matter. The only thing that worries me sometimes is that there are ceramic ball bearings at the clasp that could break, I guess. Go to an ad and try one on to see how you like it.

You’re right on all counts but people here have a burning hatred for Nomos for no discernible reason.

They make small, simple, in-house watches that punch way above their very reasonable price point when it comes to movement finishing. It’s fine if people don’t like their styling, it’s certainly not for everyone. But it is impossible to recommend better dress watches at that price and I frequently cringe when I see people recommend Stowa or Laco or some micro-shitter instead of Nomos to someone who doesn’t know anything.

I have a Tangente 38 and am seriously considering picking up a metro or world timer. They’re that good, IF you like their design language.

Quartz watches usually need a feedback system called thermo-compensation to improve the accuracy so that it only gain or loses a dozen or so seconds for the entire year. Bulova achieves similar performance by increasing the frequency of the crystal instead. Typical quartz watches have a tolerance of +/- 20 seconds per month.

>> No.15811709

>>15811698
Also neat fact: thermocompensation works for wrist watches because you only need to count the seconds so the individual oscillations don't need to be extremely accurate, you can compensate by increasing or decreasing the counts that make up a second using a known curve of frequency to temperature. For applications where the individual oscillations do matter like a base station for a cell tower, the quartz oscillator is actually put into a temperature controlled "oven" instead which maintains constant temperature.
