Fuck this dogshit "hobby" bros. I hate being obsessed with watches. Nothing ever fills the void. Everything is always just one little detail away from being the perfect watch, I'll never be satisfied and I have so much better things to spend my money on but the god damn watches never leave my mind. I spend my money on suits, shirts, shoes even a fucking car in some cases but I gotta lust after a 1000$ piece of generic ETA stainless steel shitter. It'll never be enough, I wish I never liked watches. It's always too big or too small, ugly bracelet or ugly case shape, ugly hands or ugly dial. The ride never ends. I'll never find the perfect watch.

On laco's website they let you pay another 120 for anti reflective coatings on both sides. Does this give a noticeable blue hue in the light or does it take away from authenticity somehow? Trying to figure out if most people opt in for this or not

Also they give you a free engraving on the back where some of that made up zum language is. .... Should this be taken advantage of? I can't imagine anyone ever personalized them since they gave them back, the soldier never owned these apparently. The only concession in authenticity with laco is the sizing unless you want to go jacket size, but outside of that I don't really want to sacrifice much in the way of history (handwind over automatic, 42mm even though 39mm would fit better because then its smaller then divers and too tasteful on wrist)

You can like and be interested in watches it doesn't require you to constantly want to consoom.

People manage to be interest in cars without constantly obsessing over the fact their will never own a Ferrari. You can be interest in cars without owning a fleet of vintage aircooled 911s.

It sounds like you might just be shitty with money and you feel the need to buy whatever you like when watches are so expensive it's better to buy what you love. Maybe try going on a detox from purchasing anything for 6 months to a year. See if you're still interested in the design and mechanical elements of it when you aren't just mentally shopping

Yes, either a blue or purple sheen depending on the angle, type of coating used, and how much of it they used.
>or does it take away from authenticity somehow?
Yes, but this is not a big deal if you want AR coating enough to pay an extra 120 for it.

If I were you I would try to look up video reviews of the watch in the same size. 42mm on a diver is no big deal because the bezel is a big part of divers so it lessens the visual impact of the full size. But fliegers have a smaller bezel. It may look a bit too big for your tastes, although fliegers are supposed to be very big for max visibility so if you care about accuracy this is not a bad thing and at 6.5, you should still be able to pull it off although it will definitely look bolder than 39mm.
For AR coating, double AR coating is quite luxurious. It does improve readability a lot, and when you angle it and get that sexy indigo sheen it's nice. If this is not something you care about and you want historical accuracy over anything, you can leave it. This is very much a personal preference thing. You have to really want the additional readability and depth of color. Honestly AR coating is somewhat rare at lower price points so I would get it for the hell of it.

I understand that visually it will look larger, but seeing the 39mm I just can't square it being that "tasteful" looking. This is me >>15799005 , I'm not gonna have an issue even with the lugs being straight pillars that don't curve down. It looking awkward at angles or whatever it fine since yeah its meant to be this tool clock that is just strapped to you.

Would you personally do the double coating though, or better yet, do you think most consumers click that option? Maybe it is in line with history since I am assuming they could do that if they knew how to back then

I'm fine with light homage and not straight up mercedes hands and sub dials. The Oris I posted would be perfect in 36mm but they made it in 40 and a fucking HOE DICK KEY colab to top it off. Oris also has the bronze bezel on the 36mm version of the black dial divers 65 which is also retarded.

my watches tell the time on my wrist. the new one gives the day and date, too. they're neither overpriced nor status symbols. but there's nothing wrong with buying something nice to wear at a high price if you can afford it. male jewelry predates clocks and watches by many millenia.
taking a miniature computer out of your pocket and lighting the screen just to find something as basic as telling the time is massive overkill. as soon as time keeping was small enough to fit on the wrist to be glanced at, everyone adopted it. your method is backward.

Just picked up this shitter for $220. It’s a “”””German”””” pilot/field watch with full lume dial and a Sellita SW200 movement. At 38.5mm I think it’s perfectly midsized. I’ve been on a hunt for a good field watch and I think this is it. This beats out the MWW Rattler, Vaer A5, and Hamilton Vintage field watches I’ve since flipped. The problem is that these watches are a massive fucking LARP, no actual pilot uses these things because there's too much shit and it's all too tiny. Only super rich fags with a private plane or young pilots who want to show status buy Breitlings so god knows who this Citizen is for. I don't get why all the good looking watches have to be exactly 10k, is this a middle "reasonable" figure that you just settle on when you develop taste, are all watch companies in on it so that they keep the exact same value for the exact same amount of money, is this the natural effect of late capitalism, what makes a cheaper watch look and feel so cheap, when I'm 100% sure that it could be made for 1/10 the price.

Yeah they've tripled the price of the Monster while completely destroying its identity. I'll never forgive Seiko.

Yeah, they softened the brutalist aesthetic that made the Monster so great. When I first so it I thought it was a legit piece of art. They are, hands down, my favorite watches of all time. Funny thing is, I try my best not to get them damaged. I’ve got the entire collection and now I find myself babying them, even though they are beaters. Now I take the Orient M Force like pic related for scuba diving, weightlifting, and outdoor stuff. It has the same design DNA of the Monster, but I don’t feel bad throwing this around

904 steel is used in seawater pumps. A recycled pipe watch is more luxurious than a recycled cutlery watch I guess.
