Thoughts on normcore?

boringcore

>> No.15796414

comfy and boring, really good for saying "im acceptable, now please look at something more interesting"

I prefer to be around completely ignorant and tasteless people than people who are aware but milquetoast.

best score. let your personality speak for itself, not your clothes. if you arent some fashion designer, spend your time cultivating other aspects of your identity rather than spending hours every day trying to impress others on the superficial level of creating an outfit.

safe. emblematic of someone who wants to broadcast an interest in fashion without doing any work, without putting his hide on the line.

joyless. nobody into normcore sees a piece and goes "holy shit, that's nice." exhausting self-parody except the joke isn't funny in the first place. dadcore with no flair for irony or humor.

a sad cope.

>best score. let your personality speak for itself, not your clothes
then dress in h&m top to bottom, anon. go full boring, uninitiated normie. stop giving a shit.

normcore enthusiasts do indeed expect their clothes to speak for them, except what the clothes are saying isn't very interesting (and odds are, neither is the wearer).

Looks cool on old people, like you can see on pages like @gramparents.
On younger people is tough, can make you look super soulless easily.

Astute observation. Normcore wearers think they are in trend, think they are stylish, think they attract attention with their 'basic and comfortable yet pleasing" outfits.
Typically people who live in the city, but not the inner city, on the outlying 'green' or 'garden' suburbs with basic apartments built in 2006.

I think it’s probably the most misunderstood or mislabeled fashion subculture since emo. People equate it to arrogant hipsters or hype beasts which are actually alt and basic respectively.

Normcore is emblematic of not really caring about “standing out”, it’s about appearing approachable and indistinct as to draw focus to the similarities between average people. It’s someone who loves Trump getting along with someone who marches with BLM because the former doesn’t wear a red hat and the latter doesn’t wear blackout gear. It’s about rejecting labels and embracing humanity. Normcore is easily going down as one of the most rapidly misappropriated terms right next to the misappropriation of the term “meme” to describe image macros instead of cultural heredity

oh and I forgot to mention the key similarity between emo and normcore is that people outside the subculture labeled it. no one actually inside those respective groups would have ever labeled themselves as such, because both subcultures were label avoidant
